ignore
the marks, the stains
the pains
                                                pretend
i'm wiped clean
                                                               deleted
off the screen
                                                                       conceal
my insecurities
                                                                 erase
my disabilities
                                                                they hide
my possibilities

i only want them to  see
the better side

of me.

Everything seems            out           of                         place.

                                                                 The tears   i cry

i now    disguise

     being told

“you are not alone,”

Doesn’t keep me

under control

have you got a clue?
                                                                what got you so blue?
how everyone else is perfect?
                                                                                                                                    unlike
you?
did anyone tell you that you're cute today? cuz you are!

They told you "Careful"
Because they saw the frozen eyes.
Friends warned you
Because they knew the burning mind.
The people hissed
Because they saw the iron wall.
They all left
Because they tried to invade.
Your friends said "Watch out"
Because they felt its icy stare.
The people frowned
Because they all knew the cold retorts.
The people watched
Because they couldn't fight.
You said hello
Because you were afraid.
And suddenly
The lion shed its mane.

What if there was no rush?
Only an infinity of time
To discover the world
And all you could do.
But that is simply not true.
We all head to our grave
Minute by passing minute
Year by passing year
Just because this is so,
Is it wise to rush?
Or wiser to take your time
And let your roots grow deep
Soaking in the richness
Of an Earth that has seen many generations.
It is only then we truly live
And not drift like dead wood
Afloat a windy river
That leads to a long drop over a waterfall.
Let's establish ourselves,
And become a true part
Of this magical world.
Fashion yourself into this work of art.
Engrave your essence into the bedrock of history.
Don't allow the wind of this generation
To disanchor your heart.
Let your grip tighten
Into the realms of future and past
For they can be easily forgotten
Among the nagging realities of today
And the constant worries of the present week.
Are we allowed to drop the shallow,
And explore the deep waters?
The unknown exists.
It welcomes the rarest souls
Into its hidden chambers.
But who dares to go there?
Who cares to go there
When the colourful attractions
Of previous discovery shine all around you?
Convenience the wall that guards the masses
From the hidden worlds that lay beneath.

House with many memories
Unspoken secrets

There are stories
Written short to the naked eye
But to the eye of the poet;
There are potential volumes
Of verses and lyrics
Occasional verses and ballads

Hidden all around
Some at first so beautiful
Petals of a bright red rose
The color, fragrance, and corolla appeal
Then seen are the thorns
Sharp as small daggers
Some never to ***** flesh
Others bound to draw blood

Healthy presentation
Good taste and style
Sweet little smile
Glimmering eyes
Melodic voice
Thoughtful and observant
So why the hesitation?

Were those eyes truly glimmering,
Or were they swarming flies,
Hovering over a rotting heart?

That melody
Could it have been giving a choice?
Be wary and don't take the bait
Or be lured by a siren?

Was that thoughtfulness of pure intent
Or will it be a future lament?
Were they so observant
Because they were captivated by you
Or to use blackmail and make you a servant?

The purpose of this poem is to sketch how there is a story in everything, and there is much more than meets the eye. Some eyes may see more, but never the whole entirety of what lies before them. The speaker in this piece is a person who speaks from experience, thinking they knew someone but only having scratched the exterior. When writing this poem, I had to consider how the speaker would be able to express their experience without doing into details (to be open for others to relate to and connect with).

*This poem is being included in my Poetry Portfolio for my Creative Writing class, and I really hope it's good enough.

**When I read this to one of my sisters, she said, "It's Twilight! It's all Twilight!" Well, no, but if you think of it that way it somehow makes sense.. Hah, I didn't see that one coming.

Nicolaitans, enigmatic, but
     Balaam we think we’re certain.
Truly they’re both mysteries,
     wisely and deliberately hidden.
Flesh and blood cannot reveal
but only the Father in heaven.
Jesus, the only teacher, explains,
as always, privately to his chosen.

I'm the shadow,
   shuddering

                               what can I see

within the darkness...

A smile,
such a clever trick
When I want, when I need to hide
I smile,
so I stay hidden.

No easy feat to achieve,
yet I must do so
I endanger myself when I do not hide
Open to hard eyes, inquisitive stares and plain
disgust.

As I grow, I become the master,
master of hiding, hidden from all
Not even Holmes can decipher my smile
Let him try,
I am hidden.

My tears are silent, my sobs never seen,
my shouts are disguised
But my smile, my smile screams
Screams false happiness and content,
false love.

The veil of truth is my servant,
I easily command it
My lies shaping, shifting, becoming my life
Reality has gone away from me,
to hide is to lie.

I can wish the rules were different,
but my wishes are foolish and wasted
As is my love
Hidden as the rest of my life,
cloaked under my shame, my fear.

This world is cruel and unfair,
for more than just people like I
We all must be hidden
We all have a reason to hide,
so we smile.

He screams and wails
No one knows why

When they ask
He smiles and laughs
He says he just couldn't sleep some nights. But I saw him struggle. It was more than insomnia.
