I never liked the
smell of tea tree until I
smelt it in her hair

Younger wanting to be older
Older wanting to be young
Child wishing to be bigger
Bigger wishing to be thinner

Teen wanting a clearer face
Clearer face wanting a better body
People lamenting bad hair days
Bad hair days replaced with no hair days. . .

We diss what we have
Wish for what we lack
When what we have is gone
Oh, what we'd give to have it back!

Youthful desires for future yearning
Future bearing down like a train
Elders' memories of past unnerving
Hit by a train never the same

10/6/2020 - Poetry form: Free Verse - Seems like we're never satisfied. If you're an adolescent you want to be an adult. If you're older you want to be younger. And on and on and on. Why can't we just be content and enjoy what we have at any given time? - Mark Toney © 2020

my hair today
is a very good rep
for my soul:

inconsistent
damp
and crazy as ****
i hate my hair it's curly in some spots but not consistently enough to actually be considered "curly"

Fearless

Long hair waving in the new wind.
Time changes and it’s a **** beginning.
Bowie, I only worship one king.
All that is left are the songs we are still singing.

Heroes fall under the thunder sounds.
Waterfalls endlessly come crashing down.
Inside my own existence I continually drown.
I can never find the right way out.

Primal heart; bitten Devil man.
Longing for a new wave to send me to a better land,
Where people are free from eternal suffering.
I hold aloft the heart of endless dreaming.

Don't touch my hair;
Spreading germs & illnesses with those toxic hands

Don't touch my hair;
This hair is a sacred temple on my head

Don't touch my hair;
My style need to last through the week boo-boo

Don't touch my hair;
My melanin brown-reddish color is beautiful

Don't touch my hair;
Do I look like a pet?

Don't touch my hair;
Yes! It's real

Don't touch my hair;
Do you see me asking if I can touch you? No? Ok then.

Don't touch my hair;
Do you want to get your a%# beat or do you want to go home?
Never Touch Black Hair

Remains of times we were apes
Protecting our genitals with a drape

Soothing areas of friction
When our bodies are in action

Shaving it all put in question,
Necessity or cultural pression?

Will it make our bodies roar,
Or just be a pointless chore?

Anyway count on one thing
Hairy or not, I'm coming!

We all want change
But we don't wanna change

We say keep the change
Like we don't need the change
Like we've never counted out dimes to buy cigarettes or beans

We're 2000 miles over on an oil change
We don't like to think about what we can change

We change our mind
We change our hair
We change our ***
We change our friends

We change the channel

But we don't change

We don't wanna change
How can you change what makes you the same

Winds change and we get blown away
Because we don't wanna change

Isn't that strange

I love her infantile eyes,
So deep and dark, with no lies.

I love her chubby cheeks,
So likable and lickable, with no ice.

I love her beautiful hair,
On her mandible so magical, with no lice.

I love her smiley curves,
So spicy, with no added spice.

I love her cute nose,
So precious, with no price.

I will never grow tired of our love
we lie awake under the sheets
legs entangled
the softness of your feet
our late night prattle
smiles and laughter
the faint glow of the nightlight
the hum of the fan
your head finding comfort
in the crook of my arm
I brush my fingers through your hair
and kiss your cheek
we dream, we sleep
