he was smiling
and we were laughing
and then he was gone.

there was a loud noise
that made my ears ring.
I didn't realize what
had happened, but
I knew it was bad.

I ran as fast as I could.
I didn't look back.

my legs burned
but I knew that I
had to keep running,
no matter what.

I burst through the
door to our apartment,
panting and crying.

my family stared at me
and it took me a minute
to understand why.

I went to wipe my tears
with the back of my hand,
and the liquid was red.

those weren't my tears.
that wasn't my blood.
the realization hit me
like one punch after another.

a random car had
pulled up next to us.
my friend's brother was shot.
I was standing next to him.
I ran. he wasn't behind me.

as my fear faded,
my memory became clearer.
the realizations that hit
my mind must have
punched my stomach too.
I was suddenly sick.

my ***** coated our kitchen floor
and my family took me into
our bathroom to clean myself up.

my friend and his brother
had known me since I was born.
I grew up with them.
I would continue growing,
but now he wouldn't.

I watched as his blood
blended with the water
in our apartment's shower.
I watched as it swirled
down the drain until
the red was all gone.

my last memory of
the kid I grew up with
is watching his blood swirl
down my shower drain.

it's been years since that day.
I've grown up. I moved out
of the city a long time ago.

it's over. he's gone.
there is nothing I can do,
and there was nothing
that I could have done.

but somehow, I still feel guilty
for washing him off of me.

Course and corrupted,
Words escape us.
Broken silence,
Consumes our years.

I canโ€™t find you.
The song is fading.
Courageous beauty
Protected tears.

Children crying,
Lonely dreams.
Understanding,
Helpless fear.

They grow up,
Without you watching.
They move on,
Without you here.

Abandoned hopes,
Issued orders.
Hopeless training,
Foolish prize.

We wait for you,
Always stable.
Unwavering duty,
Bitter lies.

Each moment perfect,
But never present.
Each measure met,
Yet memory lost.

And one day soon ,
When release becomes us,
I will show you
what this life has cost.

hey dad
i knew talking to you was pointless
cause you still think you were right.

you don't wanna know my hurt.
you don't want to understand the pain and agony in my head, in my heart because you never cared enough to ask.
you never even tried to be there.
none of you did.

where were you when the leaves fell off the trees like the tears from my eyes in the cold winter air as you smoked away your problems.
as you smoked away me.
one puff more as i begged you to stop, but of course you didn't.
you never listened to me anyways.

threaten to put your hands on me.
you always seemed to fix your problems with drugs and violence.
every excuse is a new step towards the breaking point.
the breaking point is what i'm scared of.

its like every hurtful word is another blade on my skin.
crimson blood puddles flowing out of every crack you left in me.
if my own father left me.. how am i supposed to trust that no one else will?

it seems i cant be happy.
whenever it gets better, i fall back down into the dark.
broken even more as i smack down at the bottom of the pit.
in my
๐“ฌ๐“ธ๐“ต๐“ญ.
๐“ฎ๐“ถ๐“น๐“ฝ๐”‚.
๐“ถ๐“ฒ๐“ท๐“ญ.
left alone
again

you scorched the burning hate in my soul for anyone like you.
you showed me that no one can change.
not even after my 14 years of life, have you changed.

i hope you feel your empty soul ache as you see me finally happy that i let you go.

i hope you break as you hold the little necklace i held so dear to me.

i hope you feel your heart rot as your kids go on to live their lives without you.

i hope you are happy.

:)
i have been disowned from my dad's side of the "family"
guess they can stand on the sidelines and watch my success from there
but they wont be part of it

It's become obvious you are not coming back
The thought of you and her together hits me like a smack
The blood that runs rampant through my veins suddenly starts to freeze
My heart stops pumping as I drop straight to my knees
It shatters to pieces and the shrapnel fills my chest
Impaling my lungs
Making my breathing congest
Silence has no business settling inside my ears
But the fact that it does confirms my worst fears
There is not a word I could say to possibly change your mind
Without hesitation you effortlessly leave me behind
If you're not in love anymore why couldn't you let me know?
I gave you many opportunities to let me go
Yet you are such a coward you hid how you feel
Led me to believe your emotions were still real
Then you vanished without courtesy of a text or call
I guess the truth is I meant nothing to you at all
Not only did you not have the ***** to say it to my face, you couldn't say it to me period. After six years together you dont respect me enough to inform me of our break-up. I can't believe I have been dumped this hard and for some ****** who I can guarantee won't stick around once you have nothing more to offer. I would have been your ride or die until the very end but it's your loss I suppose. No one will ever love you the way I do.

Let me start out by saying-
that I have absolutely nothing to say
Now maybe that should be a bad thing and,
don't get me wrong it most definitely is for poetry.
however-
not for everything else.
I don't have anything to say anymore
because I've said it all, all I want to, Needed to say.
and I can't seem to want to write because my writing is supposed to help me think and organize clumps of words

into lines

and lines
into stanzas
and stanzas into-
well,

poetry.

but its gone,
I asked myself where the magic went
and the only conclusion is
that the magic wasn't there to start,
my emotions were.
my fuel fracked and burned up
because the poetry helped me live.

and now I don't know how to live without it.
I'm addicted and can't even make my own cravings

If there was a distance to cross
I wouldn't take the step
I wouldn't start the journey
I couldn't even take a breathe
Couldn't say the words
and now you're gone.
:c
Your eyes tell me how you really feel
The once bright stars I used to see
Are now lost in your blue eyes sea
The glowing is gone
And I know
I will never have you
The way that I used to

Lost to us were the
bright and sunny days in the 60s,
lazy afternoons & the pristine scent of grass after rain,
all that matters is invisible to our naked eye.

Time is the bottle
we cram memories with &
fleeting is our being ****** into an unprepared tomorrow,
drowning in the long-gone reverie of yesterday

Nostalgia is the sweet lie we murmured, the small
cloud of dust suspended in the air &
the smoke rings spiralled toward
a December night sky.

Forgotten dreams & present madness is a
scratched vinyl record stuck in the fissure of time;
crackling noise muffling our sighs โ€”
Gone, they say, gone.
I'm feeling a bit weird recently, like I'm longing for something I have never experienced, missing old days before I was even born.
Old days old days, why are they always better than the present?
Astrea Oct 2020
You told me
there was a certain beauty in the never-return โ€”
cherries wither into whispers of smoke,
river shivers upon winter's stroke
sparrows mourn and sing and forget,
how we used to be strangers, lovers, then strangers again
deep in the darkness you stared at me, smiling
with a mouth of pearly teeth
crushing the piling blossoms underneath, saying
I better remember this fading fragrance, and
carry it to your grave,
for this is our last parade.
Wrote this in a haste, didn't think it's good enough
I wonder where you go
When you are gone
All
I
Know
Is
That
You
Are
Not
Here
Where do you go?
