And here I swore I hated gambling.

I gambled every night.
Her game was Hold Em Till They Break.
The Queen of Jokers. The Heart of Diamonds.
I was broke before I joined the game.
A pocket full of loose change,
nothing to gamble with.
She smelled an amateur, bet the house.
A dealer of busts and snake eyes.
She was my arch nemesis, the other side of me,
cept the coin is flipped, now I'm the dark side.
So heads up, I'm playing chance with your lies,
and it won't turn up good for you.
I'll burn this house to the ground.
I'll rip every skeleton you buried in my rib cage.
They can cut from me every confession,
I don't care if it kills me.
I'll laugh myself to death on the table.
Cough up every secret, all of your tricks,
and all your twisted plot twists,
each night was a roll of the dice.
I bet the house, and lost every time.
Yet I'm the one who deserves to die?
Because I put my cards down first?
Does that seem right to you?
I bet it does,
you walked away with nothing to lose.

I:

In which
I

amid the
whirring lights

and emerald
felt

drift
through a

raucous
flashing casino

searching

for a
table

with an open
chair

so I can
finally start

to play
the game

II:

In which all of us
are together again at last

for a family gathering—
Thanksgiving supper, perhaps—

and, as we greet each other,
I happen to glance skyward,

unthinking,
and notice that clouds

of a turbid
cumulonimbus gray

are beginning to coalesce overhead.

I look up again and notice
that they have spun

into dozens of funnel shapes,
each of them

starting to reach down for us
like the ashen fingers of Death.

We huddle down in the cellar,
praying the storm will pass.

I deal with my emotions like a deck of cards

Cut them in half
Pull the pieces apart
Seperate them in groups
And throw them at others
I won't know if they'll get a hand
Or maybe a fist
All i know they are playing a game
None will win

You once told me that 16.6  percent
is the risk of firing a bullet into your head
when playing Russian Roulette.

And I wonder,
Does that make you a 16.6 percent suicidal?
I never knew you were a gambler,
And I wonder,
how much risk are you willing to take?

What will it look like,
when you’re holding that gun against your forehead?
What will your brain think,
that one millisecond before the fire hits you?
What will your tiny heart feel,
right before the bullet smashes your head into pieces?

Will you be counting your debts?
Will you ask for just one more chance?

But let me ask you-
What happens when the fire hits you
and you haven’t decided yet?
Tonight we're having a big feast
in the great city of sin
I'm about to unleash the beast
Let this party for players begin

The soft, green cloth beneath my fingers
The shiny deck of cards
The joy when the dealer bust still lingers
Wont you please send my regards

The tingling inside when the Ace says hello
The kick when the King joins in
The Queen is also welcome to the show
And the Jack can bring his twin

Race doesn't matter at this gathering
Both blacks and reds look swell
When diamonds and spades are scattering
You can invite hearts and clubs aswell

The bets are getting higher and higher
My wallet is getting thin
I hardly ever get what I desire
Cause the house will always win

At first I thought I had control
But suddenly I was unstable
I had lost my entire bank roll
At the end of the Black Jack table

take a chance and roll the dice
bounce them off the boards
you're the type that cheats and hoards
indulgent in your vice

you're the princes, you're the lords
but take my advice
be careful, or you'll pay the price
what can you afford?

you look at me and chuckled
you laughed right out loud
you're so foolish and so proud
depending on your knuckles

your countenance began to cloud
your reserve to buckle
you lost your luck, i said "oh well"
your mantle is your shroud.
