I have a nasty habit
of dropping pieces of
myself on other peoples
doorsteps, leaving
frigernails and stray
hair inside their
post box. I always
give a part of my skin
to strangers on the
street because maybe
someone else can love
it more than me.
And I rely on broken
teeth and bottomless pits
to decide how whole
I really am.

So I set up camp
inside their
bones because I've
never been one to
know what home feels
like and I thought
I could manifest inside
sink holes for hearts
but it only made me
fade to black.

I wanted
to make peace with
the torment in my
head, but then the
flood came and sailed
away the only bed
I could ever sleep in.

And I wanted to hold
onto the idea of
making bonfires in
the small confines of
their back but people
don't take kindly to
being shelter for a
storm that never dies.
I come with lightening
strikes and hurricanes

in a three pocket
backpack and knock
on the doors of those
whose mother never
held their hair back
when they cried.

People are tempory,
in every meaning
of the word. They crack
and they crumble
just like me but the
wreckage of them
always seems to land
right beside my
shacking knees and
I sift through the
rubble because I've never
been one to let go
of things too easily.
I burn alongside the
people that I love
and I let them spit
out their sparks
upon my neck and
I rub their ash into
my flesh and I scream
when I get burnt
because I forget that
they were burning
when we met *and I was
bound to get a little
****** in the end.
Excuse the repost.

Because I'm scared of being engulfed in flames
And that you'll leave me burning
While I watch you
Blow out your matches,
Walk away,
And not do the same*
To someone else

Everything burning around me...
Yet I remain untouched

Well I have no clue how it came up
But there are flames pouring like blood.
Like magic healing in our lips
Intertwined like death is on our heels
I never thought that I could feel like this
There are sparks flying like a blow torch in a barn.
I love the way you comfort me
Whenever I’m sad and down
When I’m mad I say “back off”
You say “not until you calm down”
I make a face
Then you smile
And all the while I’m crying
You hold me tight
And gently rock away my fears
You don’t care if I ruin your shirt
As long as the pain stops flowing
Then we are one sitting there
Loving each other
Is it just me, or is this room heating up?
We’re flying
Sparks like a blow torch in a barn

if you were to leave me in a storm,
i'd run after you because
no one runs away from me

i'd take a souvenir
i'd take your heart just like
you took mine and i'd hand you back the ashes after the flames
got a hold of your lifeline

Our first date you took me to eat gumbo
At a seafood place
And I threw up.

Maybe it was a warning
Maybe it was food poisoning
Either way, I stayed
Because loving you was not rocket science
But it wasn't easy either.

Our second date you took me to the zoo
And as I glanced at the black and white stripes
That wrapped around every zebra, I thought
Hey. Sometimes you're only black or white
Always seeing
Always being one way or another
And never in between
It wasn't fair to me.

Maybe I should have left right then and there.
In the end, I stayed
Why did I stay?
Because loving you was not rocket science
But hell, it wasn't easy either.

Our third date you took me to the moon.
Metaphorically of course
Not literally
Because.. how could we?
Anyway, you took me to the moon and back
And baby, it was a blast.
Fires raging
Speeds changing
My heart racing as quickly as one possibly could.

The fourth date proved that loving you
Was more like rocket science than it was easy.

By the fifth and final date
Our flames had faded away.
All that was left was black smoke
And a bright, white light that I walked into
Because I knew that it was my time to leave you.
I go to this cute, little venue every Wednesday to listen and sometimes perform slam poetry. This last Wednesday was wonderful and before the event ended, the host asked poets to go up on stage to do some ad libbing after the audience said three words. The words were gumbo, science, and zebras.. so this is what I got.

Through the spitting flames that line my soul, I see a fragment of myself that harbors murderous intent. A hostile takeover to strip me of my weakness. Like an illness to the passion of life. This fragment wants to be in control. I want it to take over and propel me forward with ambition. But it hasn't. Does that mean there is another image in the flames? The one in control, if not me.

When Elijah comes again,
We'll all turn the page of sin,
He is not the Lord,
But a voice of awe,
Heaven above, earth below,
Fire within, ever to glow,
Divine life and love on Planet Earth,
One vision and one dream,
Amity and no more bigotry,
One global fellow humanity,
Ceasing hostilities, such sin,
When Elijah comes again.
