Randy Johnson Dec 2024
You were my mother until I was forty-one.
I was fortunate and lucky to be your son.
December has arrived and Christmas is near.
Life would be better if you were still here.
You were the best woman that I've ever known.
But since you died, I've spent Christmases alone.
If you and I could share another Christmas, it would be great.
But you died over eleven years ago and it was a terrible fate.
I still miss you to this day and that is certainly true.
Have a Merry Christmas, Mom, everybody loves you.
DEDICATED TO AGNES JOHNSON (1948-2013) WHO PASSED AWAY ON MARCH 6, 2013

Your sugar dust dances,
Falling in wisps and whirls onto the carcass of summer;
And that silent breath, like the ghost of a kiss,
Shadows under ill-lit street lamps.
Where toes dig deep into woolen blanket
And the body's fire is the only reprieve from your reaching icicles
I shall slip a smile to these rose petal lips and welcome your cold embrace

Before Christmas
there was Christ.

Before the sleigh.
Before the conifers.
Before candles.
Before the paper decor.
Before Christmas became
about lesser gifts.
Before basted turkeys
and Santa myths.
There was Christ.

Before he became the suffix
to the festive.
Before he became less Christ
and more Chris.
Before we suppressed his divinity
and took away his dignity.
Before we replaced him
with a capital merry Me.
There was Christ.

Before Christmas, Christ gifted himself
and took the part that was key
to making a mercy path back
(by way of a much starker tree)
to His eternal city.
Where the crowns aren’t paper.
Where the feast lasts longer.
Where Christ is rightfully King.
That’s where the true party will begin.

The air was turning crisp,
It was frosty outside,
People wore their cozy coats,
Their was a sparkle in everyone's eyes,
The fireplace was lit,
Some sat by the fire,
Snowflakes started falling from the sky,
From up a little higher.
Beanie hats were bought,
Some preferred some with bobbles on the top,
Everyone was running round from shop to shop.
A few golden lights,
Were seen from the streets,
A woman lit a candle,
& placed her hands above the heat.
A robin landed on her wall,
Just outside her house,
The sign of winter on its way,
November is nearly out.
A lil poem to get you into the Christmas spirit.
Holliday takes over novelty
Reality purged by the imagination
Open your eyes its Christmas time
Send cards to those with no relation

-Shivers of Winter

Down from the heavens came a host of pure white snow,

Dreaded winter has come to fill our lives with woe!
Kewayne Wadley Nov 2024
You're still on my mind
the way you taste, and the way
you make me feel.
The world moves fast,
and soon, the time will be here again.
Instead of a turkey,
you've carved pieces of my heart
and reminded me of all the things I've forgotten.
The aches and pains that have taken
over the empty spaces between
the hands on the clock
work, bills,
pieces of my most intimate self
I've traded to sustain a living.

You've carved these pieces of my heart,
as savory as they can be,
and fed them to me,
showing me that the world isn't
that miserable
regardless of the fake smiles in a
fast-moving world.
My favorite time of the year comes
quicker, followed by my favorite
season.
Thank you for showing up,
and allowing us to feast on the parts
of ourselves we always seem to forget.
Next year, this time will come around
faster.
Until then, I'll savor the way you taste
and how good it feels to be around you

White and Red
Christmas is all about Buckethead
Wonky bucketbots loyal helping-hand
Shred gift of magical BucketheadLand

Buckethead... seasonless Santa
Metaphorically & Literally
Especially Musically
A poem dedicated to Buckethead's live concerts, and how he shares and exchanges gifts during his shows. There's no need for a special occasion, especially when it comes to his music, the most humble person I can think of.
'Twas the night before the Big Bang, when all through the void
Some notions were stirring, towards Darwin and Freud
Superstitions rejected and hung out to rot
It’s shocking how quick we completely forgot
Where cryptical symbols were sacredly spoken
The stories upended and images broken
From out of such Chaos, a chariot of Truth
An empirical prancing of paws on the roof
Now, Newton! Now, Einstein! Now, Herr Oppenheimer!
Now listen! the odious tick of the timer
From the Apple of Knowledge forsaking the plums
For probable visions and practical sums
When wisdom, by Turing, is put to the test
Then where are those letters to Santa addressed?
If coal from the mischievous miscreant’s stocking
Keeps motors of industry ticking and tocking
Then icecaps will vanish from under the elves
And Bezos will eagerly fill up our shelves
So with glittering objects and shiny bright trophies
We bid you Good Luck with a train of emojis

her kisses
are hot cocoa, sweet on my lips.
her arms
a fireplace, holding warmth between us.
her eyes
are christmas lights, glowing in the cold.
her love
is winter dust, a most beautiful thing to hold.
i've always found winter to be such a romantic time. i'm a sucker for a cheesy hallmark kinda love
