and i will grow roses on my windowsill hoping you follow the butterflies back to me...//
miss you with the fury of a million scorching suns
As I sat, I watched closely
How uncomfortable my gaze made her feel
Not once, not twice, have I caught her eyes on me
Even though I'm dying, I prefer not to see

Love begets loves
And love is never made for one
It is not to be hidden, it is to be shown
And to be treated with care, like precious gold.

I'm good at putting up a front
But now my guards are down
There is this tingly feeling in my guts
I think I've got butterflies.

Butterfly of gold, butterfly of gold
So fragile, yet very precious
Butterfly of gold butterfly of gold
Do not lose thy Luster to the test of love

as the stars trickle down from the sky
they take the form of raindrops
every time they splatter down on me
i feel every shattered aspiration
in those little splashes of starbursts
i feel them stab into me demanding to be set free

crushing a dream
is like ripping the wings from a butterfly
and then asking it why it can not fly

When I first saw you
I knew I wanted to change
With no idea of what I’d become
My perspective of beauty was altered
To explore the world, far and wide
I had what I needed by my side
It showed when
I broke out of my shell

Focused on my flaws
I turned them into veins
The vibrant colors are my pain
At one point in time
I crawled through life
But now I fly above
The things I cannot change
I am humbled by my transformation
For this is my butterfly year

wacky butterfly,
with a whimsical flight plan!
joking with movements.
Life took away her wings
A vital and precious piece of her
She laid there, defenceless and vulnerable
She had encountered life at its worst

What is a butterfly without her wings
No appearance to hide behind
She had to live with what was left of her
Life sadly had not been kind

She questioned who she was
With her new inability to fly
Her newfound lack of freedom
Awaited a fate she could not fight

Without her wings, she began to crawl
Reverting back to a childlike state
For an end gives rise to a new beginning
Her positivity was something innate

Her downfalls made her climb higher
Pain didn't bother her anymore
Her fear to fall had diminished
She was stronger than before

Her fighting spirit emerged out of her
Giving form to new wings
Her tears nurtured and shaped them
She began her new chance at living

I still remember that day
I saw your smile gleam
and your long brown hair flow
in the warm Hawaiian breeze

The ocean pushed
those pretty shells to the shore.
I heard your sweet laughter
when you saw that little blue butterfly
land on my nose

I had never seen your beautiful,
big brown eyes
filled with so much
happiness
and wonder

I sat there just watching you,
dance in the glow
of the sunset

You leaned down
and whispered to me
“my love for you is never ending”
and I smiled

Suddenly,
this world went dark.
The warm breeze turned cold
and your eyes filled
with tears

It had taken over your body
and locked you inside.
It was a constant battle every day
but your smile kept growing bigger
and your faith never faded away

This thing had pulled out your hair
and wore you down.
I felt helpless as I watched you slowly
fade away…
All I could do was scream
“let go of her”

And one day,
it did.

Tears rolled down your cheeks
As you placed your ring on my finger
and whispered
“my love for you is never ending”
and I smiled

I watched as you drifted away
with that blue butterfly,
in the warm
Hawaiian breeze.
Why does God always take the best people from us far too soon?

Tibetan Brimstone butterflies wave wings madly at their paradise valley
In the beginning, before the beginning, and in the beginning
Their shaken snow globe makes them flutter in wild exuberance
As they reveal a mountain, then no mountain, then Kunlun again
Peace, followed by chaos, and then by peace
Mother Luna's kaleidoscope of enlightenment
Protected by the hooded one
Holds all worlds and shakes the four seasons
Nothingness, creation, abiding, destruction
The wheel of time
Moves the wind as it’s blown by vast circles of water
Aqua marine is washed again by golden earth
And in the center, the great opal mountain song of La
Nature's peace
Beyond white leopard snows, icy winds, and empty husks of death
Butterflies are born again
Shambhala’s mindful beat opens passage for light through darkness
Poets squint and ride on wings toward the hidden sunset kingdom
Watching another world's Avalon alive beneath a blue moon
Insulated chrysalis of love for all seasons
A fisherman, a carpenter, a shepherd, a merchant, a caterpillar
Discover a lush, isolated, peach grove
Nosing thickly scented nectar and purple primrose honey
In the jade valley of the kings, queens, and beggars
They meditate under the Bodhi Tree
Deep brown ****** lines are carved into their soft olive skin
Smooth hands are made rough, and then smooth again
Young, then old, and then young once more
Wisdom setting beside Queen Spirit Mother of the West
Sharing a bowl of her rice milk in harmony
Being in the realm between man and nature as Kalachakra turns
For six years the caterpillar eats of fig
And then the wheel breaks for flight one last time
Radiating light as she sheds her glorious wings
Here, the snow globe explodes flying petals of wild exuberance
Revealing a mountain, then no mountain, then Kunlun again
Transcending all, turning tears into the suns joyful rays
As they rise, then set, and then rise again

Beyond our Lost Horizon

© 2019 MJL
I loved the 1939 movie, Lost Horizon, and it's story of Shangri-La. It drove some interest in reading about Buddhism... Could we be butterflies reborn? How wonderful that would be... Young then old, then young again. All at once nature and man, one with our universe. Those who seek wisdom find salvation... The caterpillar here is a beggar who finds ascension. Cycles represent the wings flapping. There are also references to universal religious themes.
