Fragile butterfly
Delicate and beautiful
It can change the world!
annh Sep 2020
Beauty is not favoured by comparison.
Does that make sense? I’m not sure. Do I mean that we tend not to see the ‘beauty’ in ourselves? Definitely. Do I mean that what is considered ‘beautiful’ by the majority nullifies the minority’s perspective? Probably. Do I mean that ‘beauty’ does not always demonstrate generosity or humility? Maybe. And why have I used inverted commas? No idea. It appears that B-E-A-U-T-Y is easier to appreciate than it is to define.

‘When she transformed into a butterfly,
the caterpillars spoke not of her beauty,
but of her weirdness. They wanted her
to change back into what she always
had been. But she had wings.’

Fluttering through the storm
Delicate beauty
Amidst a symphony of madness
Lingering sweetly in the sadness

Wings of colors
Never to be seen
By the butterfly
Only those
Who admire it so

Spinning in the black
Falling so slow
On wings of silken touch
Keeping from falling down
Down below

Please
Dear butterfly
Don't you cry
For before you does lie
A beautiful swarm
Of others
Searching for you

Leave them not,
Dear butterfly
For your time
Has not yet reached the end

Butterfly

Butterfly...don't go.

You know-  I know you
not from somewhere,
no mutual friends,
No I haven’t stalked you
well may be once, but regardless
I just know you better
because the heart there is like the heart here
while all your things are important
you love them all
but the most
you love is not a thing at all

you remain emotional at times
most of the times
ah, the butterfly!
The crazy guy on the street
you sympathize
I know why you hide behind your shades
crazy looks you evade
I do it all the same.

while all you want to be is alone
for no reason; just alone
talk to yourself;
I bet there isn’t anyone that talks to you better
and listens to you better
I know why you smile
wider for lens,
I know why you spend big buck
but save the pence
I know why you have a different FB name
I know you,
because I do it all the same.

I know you because you are no different
all your reasons would be
the same as the reasons for me
wear the craziest clothes
try to stand out in a place
you might look pretty more
with a made up face
I see what you hide,
Beneath the skin of yours
Beneath you mascara lines
The sharp side of you
jailed within the array of your teeth
speaks the same language as the person jailed within mine
Breathes same as the one beneath my skin
And finds solace in paper cuts
I have similar light in my eyes
As I see in yours,
and in the very same way it ignites
everyday it rises and everyday it dies
In every face and in every soul I see, it resides.

You know,  I know you
you’re different you may claim
Yes !
but the heart you have and the one I do
beats all the same
beats all the same.

Basks upon purple milkweed
Orange wings now idle

When I was a young, my grandma told me
'When I die, I will become a butterfly
I'm soaring up above the blue sky
Living the life I aways wanted to be'
Hi, finally, I'm back to writing.

Oh I wish I had the wings of a butterfly!
I’d fly far, far away
and land to the prettiest flower.
I’d indulge in its peaceful beauty and sweet nectar.
I left my cocoon long ago and the present is all mine to explore.
I grew and grew for many days until my shell was no longer suitable.
Now it’s my time to be who I am.
You see,
I come with many colors.
My bright ones add light to the atmosphere.
My darker ones send coded messages to those who dare to listen.

For I am one with nature but I lack the ability of flight.
Such an ability would help me flutter more in my true self.
The weather was warm with open arms when I left my shell.
Oh I wish I could fly with the other butterflies!
But perhaps it’s better if I’m solo for some time.
I may not be as fast as them and I wouldn’t want to slow them down.

The ladybug and the shining sun will bring me proof.
Should I ever have butterfly wings,
The smiliest and prettiest flower would be my first destination.
