Stepping out into the cold
Beaten limbs, feeling old
His home upon his back
Just ten years since Iraq

Paper sheets and plastic bags
Warming body holding rags
His bottle lacking wine
Drinking passed the time

Daily grind pass him by
No one stops or wonders why
His lips are a shade of blue

Tight fist clutched to chest
A hero soldier came to rest
Upon a cold dark street
He fell beneath your feet

A winter's soldier died alone
Buried deep below the stone
Tortured by the war
His mind could not ignore

If only we could stand beside
Help our heroes, show our pride
Then we can help to save
The wounded and the brave

Every time I see men in uniform
I'm reminded of how you threw your life away
Willed yourself a killing storm
Leaving me with nothing to say

I believe in reincarnation
Someone will pick your soul out
Of the trash filled mountain, making of you a new creation
And I hope- no. I know without a doubt

You will be a flea.
Why did I fight
Why did I bleed

What did you want
What did you need

Why did he suffer
Why did he die

Why did we fight
Why the **** did we try?!
I miss them all

Rising from the snow,
A warrior of scars remains.
Betrayed, battered, and broken..

The ****** tears,
Seek revenge on thy foes.
Beware... The White wolf.
Of the snow.
I Will Be The Exception

I will smile at every veteran I see
I will place my hand across my heart
and sing, "Oh say, can you see..."

I Will Be The Exception

I will laugh and talk and joke
and play, and smile. But not only on
Veterans Day. I will do it every day.

I Will Be The Exception

I will shake their hands, I will help in
anyway I can. Freedom can be celebrated
every day, not every now and then

From This Day...And This Day On

I Will Be The Exception

The snow set in the barn,
Where the horses once laid
On a cold night, ice spiraled
We tossed,turned, all packed

The troops tamed to acquiesce
Rifles silenced, bullets sacked
Stocks in deficit, awaiting ambush
Sores overturned and edged in holes

Our nerves dead in the silent night
Risking an aching machine, a body
Pushing to extremities, thrill seeking
My mind numb, body ignited in dumb

Left, right… series audibly recurred
Halting to reflect the extreme valour
A salute to quench and honor a reality
For I once sacrificed my "liberties" for "others"
A reminisce ...........

I left you all alone
you promised, baby you promised
That we would keep this relationship
I wanted to defend this beautiful land
I nearly sacrificed my life for a command
But I'm back

Back in the same home
Same phone
Yet the frames are left unknown
Who's this man in this picture
And why the **** is there a child in the picture?
Who is there to blame
Everything isn't left the same
I used to know everything about you
Now I question if you still have the same last name?
I'm not sure about what your life has become
or if you even remember me
But I'm back.

I see you and your new man walk through the door
I swear, I don't think your eyes could of grown some more
The shock and terror in your face
Never would you of thought that you'd see me again
A child walks through the door
You broke our promise
"I thought that you were dead"
Excuses come in the race
I've been calling for the past month
Without any response
But I'm back
Just a little poem in the perspective of a Soldier that comes back after years of protecting his country just to realize that his girlfriend broke their commitment.
