Lord, first we thank you for the blessings you have showered upon your bride, the church and we ask that you continue to bless, guide, and govern her with love, in love, and through love now and forever. The church is not a building, but a people gathered together as one in your name. We are human, and in our humanity, we have sinned and caused great pain and suffering. We are wounded and scarred and some leave because of the pain it leaves behind. I pray that in the midst of these trials and sufferings that you would give us clean hearts and repentant spirits to do what is right and be honest. Lord it is often difficult to forgive, at least forgive truly. When we find it hard to forgive others, remind us gently that you first forgave us and you did not condemn, but loved. We don’t have to trust them, but we ought to forgive them. I ask for you wisdom and courage for those in authority, our priests and shepherds to be able to speak and act in an open and honest manner as they continue to minister to your church. Help us to love one another and you in a way that more closely resembles love as it was made to be. May we, together as one body begin to move forward and take the first step on Life’s Healing Journey. Amen

Father we come to you today in prayer an thanksgiving for the youth of our church and for all the youth around the world. We ask you Oh Lord to sen your Holy Spirit down upon them so that they may receive a holy spark to set their hearts ablaze with love for you, themselves and all your glorious creation! We pray for the youth that they would become today's great leaders, role-models, and guardians. Guide them, keep them safe and close to you Lord as they find themselves in who you are. We also pray for ourselves Lord. Those of us who gather here to lead, guide, teach, nurture. Fill us with a spirit of wisdom and understanding. Help us to be good stewards of the great task before us. Grant us, we pray, the strength, the courage, and commitment as we strive to change the world by changing our lives one heart at a time. With the understanding that you hear and answer our prayers in your way and your time and you know our hearts, we say: let your will be done Lord not ours. We pray this and all things with great confidence in your Most Holy Name Jesus. AMEN.

Forgive me, I have done wrong against you and myself
I have not done anything to further my spiritual health
You suffered and died so I could go free
And how do I repay you? By sinning you see!
I am a fool for having done such a thing
And rather than praise it is dishonor I bring
I realize you have probably forgiven this sinner
Help me to forgive myself in humble surrender
By grace, mercy and love I have been saved
By your mighty hand lead me to walk the way you have paved
Help me turn my heart to you
I want to serve and live pure and true
I will never be perfect this much I know
But with your help in your love I can grow
May I remember in my tomorrow's and todays
That you Oh Lord are just a breath away
Give me the strength needed to turn from satan's power
Guide me through my darkest hour
And if I forget send someone to help redirect
Lest I stumble fall or lose my way please set me on the path correct
I love you and thank you and help me to follow
Your ways and your footsteps and not be skin shallow
AMEN

Prayer of St. Patrick (Alternate)

Lord, be with me: in all I say and do

Lord, be with me: make me more like you

Lord, protect me: through each day and in the night

Lord, please help me: as I try to do what is right

Lord, guide me: as it is you I try to seek

Lord, forgive me: I fail and am so weak

Jesus, be my courage: to go wherever you ask

Jesus, be my strength: to accomplish any task

Jesus, be before me: everywhere I go

Jesus, burn within me: Your mercy and grace overflow

Jesus, please heal me: heal my every part

Jesus, free me: and break my hardened heart

Christ, surround me: with your peace and grace

Christ, all around me: let me see your face

Christ, beside me: as I go through each day

Christ, please hear me: as I come to you to pray

Christ, behind me: always ready to catch

Christ’s grace amazing: to save me; a wretch

God, ever-loving and ever-present: we are never alone

God, always waiting with open arms: for us to come back home

AMEN!

I come before you Lord humble and broken a sinner for all my days and still you call me  your precious child. You call me to live for you, love for you, worship and adore you. In all my faults and failures you have never loved me more and paid a price that I could never afford. Saved by faith and your grace I cannot earn it, I don’t deserve it I am the worst of the worst. But while I live I try to give because you Lord loved me first.

Lord you made the universe so vast with one word you spoke creation into existence. But for all of that power, still you have carved me into the palm of your hand. You knew me, all of me perfectly from the beginning of time and you love me: not just some of me, but all of me. You love me so much that you gave up everything, came as a helpless baby, were betrayed by your closest friends, tortured, bled and died for ME. I didn’t deserve it and I can’t earn it, but you gave your life away. Sometimes I take it for granted and I forget how amazing it is and how much you love me. I ask that you would help me show love to others in my life and tell them thanks and how much they mean to me. You give me the ability to breath, to smile, to put my feet on the floor and wake up each morning. I am so grateful. I pray that you would open my eyes to truly see just how richly blessed I am. From the family and friends I have, this country, this faith, the gifts and talents you have bestowed on me to share with others. There are so many things to be grateful for that we don’t even think of: food and water, shelter, clothes to wear, the seasons, having a job. Lord help me see with the eyes of a child, to look at the world with joy and wonder and awe. The rain helps the flowers grow, the beauty in a blade of grass, to find healing in the pain, joy in the sorrow. Lord, I also know that finding things to be grateful for changes our perspective, attitude, and outlook. Even on the bad days, when we look for something positive, the day seems better. Help me give thanks with a grateful heart. Even if it is a simple “Thank you God for getting me through this terrible day!!” there is always something to be grateful and thankful for. Lord, help me to look at this world and see the myriad of good things and blessings that you have so wonderfully and richly given. Help me be more mindful of this fact and then give you thanks. Grant me a grateful heart and a joyful soul. Thank you Lord for your presence in my life and all the gifts you have given me. I love you Lord help me to express that love and gratitude in a more real and dynamic way.
Amen

When we are aware of what we have been given and what Christ did for us; when we understand the depth of this love, mercy and grace, we cannot help but turn and do likewise for the world out of gratitude for this gift. We sing because we are thankful. We sing to give him praise and glory and because we are grateful for what he has done for us. We sing because we are grateful to him for the gifts that he has given us and we want to give something back to God. We use the voices and talents he gave us, to turn and give that gift to others and give him the fruits of his blessing. He doesn’t need our singing our praise and adoration, but it gives him joy that we bless him and others with the blessings he has given us.

When we pause for a moment to look around at all that he has created we are overwhelmed by the splendor and majesty of it all. How can we not say “Thank you God for all of this. How great how marvelous is your creation!”

A little bit of gratitude goes a long way as does a little bit of kindness. Congratulate someone on a job well done, give them an affirmation and see the smile on their face. That is gratitude.

Gratitude: short for great attitude.

Mary Most Holy ****** pure and chaste
Breath of Heaven help us make haste
Let your Spirit dwell within us and walk beside
Help us glory in the cross of our Christ crucified
By your grace and faith we have been given Christ the Child
Who calms the storms or our souls when life gets wild
Help us live by your example show us the way to your son
How amazing that praising 10000 years we've just begun
Bless us all and take us unto you
Pray for us and guide us straight and true
Let your light shine in our hearts and our lives
Help us to be good parents and take care of our wives
Queen of all the Universe your name in praise we lift
For the love you have for your children, and for the greatest gift
Lead us to your son our Lord and point the way to him
Lead us today and lead us home when our eyes grow dim
Grant some share of that grace you possess
Help me find some peace and rest

Amen

Mary, in your life there was great sorrow and pain. From the very beginning you knew it was going to be a long hard road. Seven sorrows you endured during the life of your son. You bore them all with fortitude and divine grace. The number seven is for fulfillment and perfection and it is through our sufferings and trials that we are shaped, refined, and perfected. Not once did you give up or give in to despair; rather through grace and faith, you remained steadfast. How your heart must break for your children, Mary. There is so much pain, violence, and hate in our world today. Grant a deep peace and love in my soul Oh Blessed Mother, that I may do what I can to console your sorrowful heart.

Amen

Prayer of St. Joseph

Dear St. Joseph most chaste spouse of the Blessed ****** Mary and earthly father to our Lord Jesus let your soft and strong spirit be upon us this day. You were a quiet and reflective man. You were humble and modest. In a world that in this day does not place a high value on such virtues that you portray, we look to you St. Joseph as a shining example of what fatherhood and manliness can truly be. You were a carpenter, a builder, a worker. Yours were strong hands; rough and calloused from work, but they were also gentle and loving hands. Surely each piece you built was a work of love and crafted with great care. The hugs you must have given Jesus were so strong and gentle. You taught your son how to build as well. It is of little wonder then that the cross he would suffer and die on would become a great bridge connecting us to each other and to your son in heaven. Yours were warm loving eyes. Eyes full of sadness, pain, and incredible joy. Was there a time when it was revealed to you what your son must endure? I can’t image what that would’ve felt like knowing what was going to happen, desperately wanting it not to, and still knowing it was God’s will. Even with all of that you said “Yes Lord. Okay. Let your will be done. I trust in you”. I only hope we might have the smallest bit of the faith, the peace, and the quiet strength that you had. Be with us St. Joseph that we might learn how to better love, better serve, and better protect the sanctity of marriage and of the family. Be with us St. Joseph in our jobs that we may remain humble in the good work that we do. Let all the work that we do, be done with great love. Bless us St. Joseph and especially those that work with their hands. Bless us St. Joseph and bless our eyes so that we may see and love others in a more profound light and that our vision would not be clouded by pain and sadness. Bless us St. Joseph and bless our minds and our hearts that we might have the grace and strength to be pure and chaste as you were. Bless us St. Joseph and bless our souls that we might obtain some of the peace, the quiet strength, the faith to say “Yes” to your son and “No” to the wiles of this Earth. Bless us oh Most Holy St. Joseph that one day we may come to know you and be with you and the Holy Family in Heaven for all eternity.

Amen

Help us manifest and bear great fruit
Come rest upon your people
Fill them with your fire
Love, wisdom, understanding, truth.
Come Holy Spirit guide our lives and guard our hearts
Open our minds, bodies, and souls
Dwell within us and help us rest in you
You were sent to show us the way lead us to the Father
Reveal yourself to me according your will
Third person of the Trinity
For you alone are least understood and least prayed to
Grant in me a great devotion to you
Within my devotion to the Most Holy Eucharist
Praise God from whom all blessings flow
These graces from on high
You fill me with words to write for the Greater Glory Of God
So I thank you and I bless you Holy Spirit Divine
Make me ever yours as you are ever mine

God said do not babble when you go to pray
Filling space and time with little things to say
So, I give you a guide that you can follow along
There, come to the place where all can belong
Now, we need not pray it word for word.
We can do differently, and we will still be heard.
But think about the words you say
And think about how much they weigh.
Are we just going through the motions
While, what we mean, we have no notion?
The "Our Father" we've said so many, many times
But have we ever stopped to look between the lines?

It was brought to my attention by a friend
Who said something to this end:
The "Our Father" calls us to focus outward.
"Give us this day our Daily Bread" which is basic and turned to self (it's very small)

"And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us"
Our attention is focused not on ourselves, but towards others

"And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil

For thine is the kingdom and the power and glory
Now and forever AMEN"
We have now turned our focus to the universe, to Heaven and to God!

So often in the world today we are focused inside ourselves, it's all about "I" or "Me", what can I get, what's in it for me? It's small and lonely although we'd like to deny it and, sometimes, we lash out because of it. God calls us to be so much more, to be so much bigger. This world is temporary and fading and in the vast expanse of the universe there would not God in his goodness have created other life, other planets, solar systems. God is infinite, his love is infinite so why would or should his ultimate plan for us be this earth alone? Something so small and nothing more?

Lord, help us open ourselves up to your love, word and truth. Help us to open our hearts to all of our brothers and sisters and neighbors around the world and be open to you. Open our eyes and challenge us to expand and grow beyond ourselves. Elevate our thinking to you, help us be mindful of what we say when we pray and help us to pray from our heart and soul rather than our head. As we expand outward Lord, please draw us into yourself. On the cross, you spread your arms wide to take in all people and there is always room in your heart and your home for another. In your goodness, grant we pray, Oh Lord the courage and strength to do likewise. Amen.

Today, Catholics celebrate the Presentation of Mary (by her parents to the church). In the days of old, the church was the primary medium of education and, in some cases, parents would dedicate their first born to the church as a sort of tithe giving back to God in gratitude for the first fruits of their blessings.

When we are young our parents took us and presented us to the church, and we are placed in the care of wise men and women to be taught and brought up in the life and the way and the truth. This is in hopes that we would grow in wisdom and age and favor before both God and man. When we are a little older, we can choose to present ourselves before the Lord and confess by our lips and our actions that we believe and serve. We take ownership of our faith. It is not simply our parents' faith anymore.

The presentation is an offering, a sacrifice, a return in gratitude of blessings. Let us, then, come daily before the Lord Our God and present ourselves to Him, to thank Him, to offer Him all our joys and sorrows, blessings, temptations, work and play. Let us begin by presenting Him with our day.

What would happen if WE would rededicate our hearts, our days, and our lives to Christ our Lord? Doing it can't make things any worse than they are by not doing it. So why not give it a shot?

When the world is against me and my backs against the wall
When I get tripped up, and I slip, stumble and fall
It's okay, it's alright I'll be fine; I'm pressing on!

I keep my head up high; I keep my heart beating strong
If I face the sun and lean into the wind, I can't go wrong
With one foot in front of the other; I'm pressing on!

Don't give up the fight; stand up for what's right
We're going to work it out, we're going to talk it out
We are walking together; together, we are pressing on!

We learn what we are capable of when the going gets tough
We find out how and what it means to deeply and truly love
Turning hatred off; compassion we're pressing on!

Reach out your hand for the hand of another
Lend a hand to all your sisters and brothers
Heart to heart and hand to hand; we are pressing on!

Primal Hunger**

She stands tall and proud in all her femininity,
A stark contrast to the maleness that surrounds her:

They, with swords drawn; the tips glistening...
Poised and ready to strike at any moment.

They, like starved wolves; silently stalking their prey...
Teeth bared straining at restraints, what holds them back?

They, like sharks; that smell blood and fear...
Circling ever closer until the prey gets tired and weak.

They, like snakes and spiders; waiting ever so patiently...
So quietly lurking in the shadows for just the right moment.

Then… They STRIKE!

They are ravenous, ruthless, and all consuming fire!
Eventually, the beasts have had their fill. They leave for now.

They leave nothing behind in their wake...
Except for maybe a memory and a promise.

And she, once tall and proud, is now hunched over and disgraced.
She, like the desert; is now baron and devoid of life and feeling.

Crying out in the black, unforgiving night
No one hears her and no help comes.

No one who understands...

No one to keep her company...

No one except her pain, her haunted memories, and her broken dreams.

no one...

Lord, how I wish I was comfortable enough and at ease enough to fall asleep wrapped in your loving arms. Help me offer up this sleeplessness and place it at your feet. The only light I have are some candles' soft and tender glow. They dance and sway when the spirit blows. Sing a sweet lullaby over me that I may dream such happy dreams. Grant, Oh Lord, that I may live until the morning light. Keep me safe through many a perilous plight. By your right hand you deliver me from my foes and out of danger. You protect me, Oh God, from the snare of the stranger. You lead me by still waters where the grass is lush and green, I am never left wanting and times are never lean. Help me find rest in the shadow of your wings. Help me find the joy that only knowing you brings. By your grace, let me experience this gift of profoundest peace and, in your mercy, grant me sleep's sweetest release!

Today I have progress on my mind
Of a physical and spiritual nature and kind.
Taking steps to improve my health
Where I am ow is better than where I was.
From day to day or even week to week
I don't notice the progress that I seek.
But when I step back and reassess
It is then that I'm aware of the progress
I'm farther than I was before
But still not where I want to be
Even so, I'm closer and it gives me a thrill
Because I can get there, I know that I will
There are good times and bad times
Sometimes I move forward, sometimes back
But I refocus, recenter, and get back on track
Losing weight, getting stronger
It takes practice, patience, and time
It's tough, but it's always worth the climb
It seems to me that our spiritual life
In many ways runs parallel
To the ways that make us physically well
In our prayers and in our giving
How we're loving, how we're living
Sometimes our faith builds slow
And, sometimes, it quite quickly grows
It's hard to see in the desert place
Where the wind blows hard against your face
The path ahead is very nearly lost
No idea how much distance you've crossed
But the winds die down and the skies clear
Breathe in deep as you are standing here
And through the trials you see
Just how far you've come
And how you came to where you are
You've done so well and worked so hard
Now have some rest and keep making progress

Sometimes I wanna be so close
That I could reach out and touch you
Sometimes I feel so certain
That I really haven't got a clue
I get so close that the image is distorted
I forget to see you in the light of Glory
I need to practice proper distance
Remembering that who you are
Is what makes me what I am
You are my brother, you are my best friend
Beloved and cherished 'till the very end
But you are Prince of Peace, King of Kings
The Son of Man, Great I AM, you are God
Sometimes I feel so very far away
This distance feels too great
You have bridged the gap to bring me back
Back in your arms and close to your heart
And I am near to you once again
In the silence of my soul, you call me
Open my ears Lord, that I might hear
And with the eyes of faith, I can see
That I can obey without great fear
You gave me your heart now here is my soul
Though storms may come I will not be shaken
For the Lord My God is my firm foundation

May I never be so familiar as to forget where you stand and before whom I sit. May I never be so comfortable as to forget to give you the respect and reverence you so rightly deserve. May I never be so foolish as to think I truly know you, for who can truly comprehend the mind of God? My Lord and My God have mercy on me and forever bless my soul! Amen

Lord you bless abundantly those who obey your command
For if we would listen and take heed you have given the promised land
So often you have preformed great signs and wonders in our age
Then we celebrate and proclaim your holy name and give you thanks and praise
How soon do we forget your glorious works Oh Lord
How fickle we are; how quick to fall into discord
Forgetting just how blessed we are, we worship those false earthly pleasures
Lured into traps by sin that sparkles as golden treasures
Money power greed jealousy and especially lust
Cause me grief, leaving me empty, treasure destroyed by ashes and rust
Stolen by thieves and vanishing like the winds throw the dust
Please remind me how much I need you always and go deeper into trust
We have separated ourselves from you and for it we pay the price
The consequences of our sin; repercussions of our vice
You have shown us the great error of our thoughts our actions and our speech
But please remind us that no matter how far we fall we are never out of reach

That there is forgiveness and there is grace
That there is love and a warm embrace
When we turn our hearts back to you
Are honest in our confession
And earnest in our desire to surround myself in what is pure and true

And do not follow the wicked's ways

Woe to the sinner who lives in the darkness

Happy are those who take joy in God's love

They will flourish and grow all the days of their lives

He will keep the just safe from harm

Psalm 24 Alternate

Jesus you hold everything in your hands
All the earth, the sea, and every land
Take my soul and hold it close to your heart
Lord you know I desire a fresh start

And though I might sin in secret thinking I could hide
You are everywhere and to know you must have cried
I ask you for forgiveness, I beg for help and grace
But I go and set myself up to fall flat on my face

The song so aptly says it Lord I cannot think to add
Another word or phrase and it makes me glad:

We bow our hearts, we bend our knees
Oh Spirit come make us humble
We turn our eyes from evil things
Oh Lord we cast down our idols

Give us clean hands give us pure hearts
Let us not lift our souls to another
Give us clean hands give us pure hearts
Let us not lift our souls to another (X2)

Oh God let us be a generation that seeks
Seeks your face Oh God of Jacob (X2)

Lord, help me do what I know I must
To rid myself of the chains of worldly lusts
That I might be free to meet you on the mountain top
And allow me the strength to persevere and not to stop

You hold my life and all that I am
You are the Shepherd I am your little lamb
You are the poet I am the pen
You were, you are, you always have been

To you Oh Lord, I lift up my head my heart I open to you
You are great and mighty the victor over sin and death
May the King of Glory enter in and find a place of purity and truth
Help me re-consecrate all of me to all of you through my final breath

And though I fail both then and now my desire remains the same:
To try to live and act and love in a way that exalts Jesus’ name
I also ask you help me quiet me to hear the whispers of my soul
To know the perfect peace and rest that being in You brings
To be more attentive and open to the extraordinary glimpses of You in ordinary things
This will be or rather is now my goal

The rulers of the earth take heed
Kings and leaders remember well
Respect the Lord and fear Him in kind
Tragedy and ruin happen when we stray from the way
When men conspire and plot and scheme
Bullets, broken glass and bodies lay
Families separated, a world in pain happy days a distant dream
There are those who serve money, popularity, fame, possessions
Other worldly things
But none can wholly satisfy no joy will they bring
As for me and my house we will serve the Lord
Try to live a life that resembles your love freely poured
Those who serve the Lord and fear Him are richly blessed indeed
And those who lose themselves in the Lord, find themselves more free
Happy are they who take refuge in the Lord and seek shelter in his arms

You help me. Keep high my head. Lord, I trust in You.

"His God will not come. He will not save this man!"

But Lord I know that, like a shield, You protect me

You help me. Keep high my head. Lord, I trust in You.

I cried to You Oh Lord My God "Please help me!"

You heard my cry and from Your thone You answered

When I slept, You kept watch and allowed me to rise each morning

I trust in You Oh God, though my enemies gather thousands strong

You help me. Keep high my head. Lord, I trust in You.

"Come Lord!" I pray, "Save me!"

I know you will silence their mouths and tongues

In You Oh Lord there is found safety

For You love and bless Your people

What can we give you that isn't already yours? What can we offer that you don't already possess? You don't ask for slaughtered goats or lambs. You don't need them to survive; they are yours anyway. You don't need us to call attention to outward sacrifice, you would rather our sacrifice be quiet and internal. Sacrifice a little of our time and spend it with you. Sacrifice our desires, our bad habits and make good habits. Sacrifice our selfishness and be a little more selfless. But the most pleasing of all sacrifices to you, you say: is a sacrifice of praise. To give thanks and praise and to glorify your Holy Name. You assure us that if we do this, then when we are in need and call upon your name, you will be there for us.

Lord, so often, as humans we focus on what is on the outside but what matters most to you is what is on the inside. We are often so busy and preoccupied with by the world around us that we forget to stop or slow down and we miss what is most important in our lives. Lord help us sacrifice a little of our time to deepen and strengthen our friendship. Help us Lord to step back and open our eyes to what matters most in our lives: friends, family, and faith and to take time to be grateful for them and really cherish what precious short time we have together.

Open our hearts Lord and fill them with the love you had and gave for the whole world so that we might be less selfish and more selfless. In being more selfless there is less of my self and there is more of you. We were all created in God's image and likeness. God is selfless love. The more we are selfless the closer we are to God and the more clearly we reflect the image and likeness of Christ to the world and those in it. We were created to be selfless, but like Jesus we must take the time to be alone, give thanks and praise for all the blessings we have and to eat, drink and rest that we might have Strength for the Journey.

Have mercy on me in your goodness and grace
Wash me of my guilt and from my sin erase
I know of my misdeeds for they are a shadow
Wherever I walk they are sure to follow
It is you that I rejected, you that I denied
It was for my sin that you were crucified
I am guilty and your judgement is right
Never was there a time I was blameless in your sight
Still, you impart wisdom and the need for sincerity
A humble spirit and a heart of great integrity
Sprinkle me with your healing waters Lord
Wash me in the flow of your precious blood
Drown me in the waves of your mercy
Cleanse me in your life-giving flood
That I may be pure, that I may be as holy as I ought
That I may be whiter than snow by a lot
Open my ears Lord to hear your voice
And, out of my suffering, I will rejoice

Have mercy on me in your goodness and grace
Look not on my sin, and from my guilt erase
Create in me a clean heart Oh Lord
Renew within me a stout spirit
Cast me not from your presence Lord
Nor from me withdraw your Holy Spirit
But restore the joy of my salvation
That I would witness to the nations
The saving power of God and His mighty love
that they too may repent and join in Heaven above
Rescue me Oh God from sin and death
That I may sing of your saving power
My lips will proclaim with every breath
Every second, every moment, every hour
You do not desire outward sign of sacrifice
That alone does not fulfill the price
You require a right attitude, a humble and contrite heart
That is how the changes can finally start

Bring your kingdom here that all peoples my come
And find a place of peace, healing, and reconciliation

How awesome is your name throughout the earth and your majesty is far beyond  the wonder of the earth and the heavens far above. It is exalted by all creation, even from the mouths of newborns. You have fashioned praise in defense against evil and chaos and render them powerless. I look to the heavens to marvel at your handiwork. The sun, the moon, the stars that you alone, by a word, have set in place. How is it that one as great and awesome as you would notice us, to care, and love us? But in all our frailty and mortality you have created us to be like you, a little lower than the angels. You gave us glory and honor. You have us power and authority to rule over what you have fashioned. You gave us dominion over the birds in the sky, the fish in the sea, and the beasts of the field. You have given us all of this. How awesome, how great, is your name Oh Lord My God throughout all the earth!

Lord, we exalt and we praise your name through all the earth. How great how marvelous are the works you have made. You have lifted us up from our smallness and weakness to be like you, to be close to you. You have given us power, authority, and dominion over your creation. Help us to be good stewards to take care of and nurture all of creation and all life. We are too prone to turn our thoughts to the evil one and we don't always protect and respect this gift as we ought. Forgive us Lord, look with love and compassion upon your beloved, and lead us back to yourself once more. Amen.

Let the sea and all its creatures praise the Lord
The skies filled with birds sing their song of praise
Let the rivers and streams clap their hands
The hills come alive with the sound of music
Let the song of the Lord be heard in distant lands
Shout with joy all you people here below
On cymbals, and strings, and trumpets blow
Make music for Him who gave us breath
Sing a new song to the victor o'er death
The Lord has done great things for us
Our eyes have seen His wondrous deeds
He remembers us and He loves us
His face has shone down upon us
He is faithful and just, righteous and true
The designer of the universe also created you
Sing with your voices, sing with your mind
Sing with your body, sing out all mankind
Sing from your soul, sing from your heart
Sing so every fiber of your being's taking part
Find a brand-new way to sing His praise
Let it permeate your nights and your days
Go out and create!

We are made to Create, Recreate, Procreate. We ourselves were created and creation, by definition, is life giving. We were made for LIFE. A song may take on a life of its own in our hearts and in our lives. A painting, a picture, a story, can seem to come alive, and bring other things to life. It is what drives us, pushes us, challenges us. It is what makes us special, and beautiful, and unique and it is why, when we come together, seemingly miraculous things can happen. Each of us has gifts, talents, graces, different than another person. We create (and are creative) in many different forms and areas.

My challenge is this: find out in what ways you are creative or can be creative and come up with something positive, something new, something that you can give life to and, in turn, something that gives you life. Find (at least) one place to be creative and do it. Make it happen. Celebrate LIFE and see the life and joy it can bring to those around you. Perhaps it will inspire someone else to create. Work with people who are/think/see differently. We were never meant to create in a vacuum. It takes at least two to make LIFE.

May God bless and keep you and your loved ones safe and close this year. May your days be filled with Joy and your nights be full of His Peace!

Purify

Lord won’t you purify my heart and soul
Wash me clean transform this lump of coal
By the holy waters and the blood of the Lamb
In this flood I see at last who I really am
I am wonderful I am beautiful I am forever yours
I am precious I am loved by death my life restores
You have put me in a crucible a trial by fire
To purify and strengthen me to lift me ever higher
Right now all I feel is hurt and pain
But with your help my faith will yet remain
I know you’ll see me through this time and place
And on tougher days I gaze upon your face
I find the strength to get up and keep going
One day I’ll look back and see that I was growing
Refine me Lord and renew my beating heart
I know that you are creating a work of art
I am under construction and my Lord is far from done
He is building me in the sight of every one
Purify me Lord that I may be as holy as I ought
Redirect me when I forget the lessons I was taught
You are holy perfect blameless and true
Hear our prayer and make us more like you
In this mess Lord you see only beauty
Like a butterfly one day we will break free
Piece together my broken heart mend my broken wings
Cleanse me from within of sin and other things

Bowing low before your cross
I feel the hope I know the loss
Broken you healed a broken land
Kneeling you showed us how to stand
Cursed you broke the curse of sin and death
You gave your life to give us life with your last breath
You opened your arms to open our eyes
You were truth so we could spot true lies
You were the way when we had lost our way
You spoke life and taught us how to pray
Glory to God the Father and the Son
And the Spirit three in one

Amen

Hail Mary; most holy Queen of Heaven
Overshadowed by love's pure expression

Watching and waiting in stillness I am then made aware
That this is Advent and I am waiting for your birth
And when you come there will be peace on earth
I am here before you in quiet contemplation
And here before me is the soul’s Salvation
Help me love and know you deeper than before
And live the life that you have called me for

A Real Strong Woman

She's smiling this morning like everything is alright

You'd never know by looking she was crying all last night

She puts on a mask; a well made disguise

But if you look hard enough you'll see the tears behind her eyes

A stubborn fool its true, but she's tougher 'n nails

She'll keep fighting when everyone else would fail

She's a heart of only the purest of gold

A hug that would melt a heart grown so cold

Her touch is as tender as a lover's embrace

Around her 's a smile on everyone's face

She has a love far greater than the oceans and seas

An uncanny ability to just put me at ease

She's a protection that's fiercer than a mother for her child

She's strong and she's tough still she's gentle and mild

She's smiling this morning like everything is alright

You'd never know by looking she was crying all last night

She's a real strong woman and that's a fac'

Them real strong women bounce right back

So you say you’re gonna need a reason
A reason if you’re gonna believe
You’ve got a long list and it’s not easin’
Lies and let downs, how you’ve been deceived
You say it’s a nice story, but how can it all be truth
You heard the words and read the tales
But now you want to see the proof
What good is this faith if logic has failed
Have you felt a hunger you could never satisfy
Have you ever felt had a chill in the middle of July
Did you ever wonder if life had purpose and meaning
Or pass by someone why was positively beaming
It’s a chance to be part of something greater
It’s a family you can turn to when things are looking grim
A place to love and be loved in plenty and in trim
Look at the beauty all around fill your lungs with air
If there is even the slightest chance that my life was not in vain
Then I will take all the hardships and bear all the pain
To believe that life is meaningless would make me lose all hope
And when troubles come and sorrows fall I couldn’t ever cope
It is pretty radical and some might call me crazy
But love is irrational though it makes you do crazy things
And yet when you feel it you know and your heart just sings
And if it all turns out to be just as you say You haven’t lost anything there was no point anyway
But if it just so happens that there is more
I’d want to see you there on that distant shore
So take a leap and hold on tight you’re in for a wild ride
I know it’s crazy but sometimes I get a peek on the other side
Better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all

What does it take to truly receive
To feel in your soul what you say you believe
To open yourself to a love so pure
To the power of true love's cure
You say: "Take this, all of you, and eat"
Enter in this house Lord, make me complete
I can be so full of myself sometime
Lord, take hold of this heart of mine
In order to give, I have to receive
I find and peace and my fears are relieved
To receive I have to be vulnerable, exposed
I have to be open wide rather than closed
Open to hurt and scars and pain
But, by your grace, my faith remains
Help me follow you and do your will
Help me receive love so I can give love
Help me know love so I can show love
Help me die for love so I can live love
Help me live in a way that pleases you
To live the Gospel of life and truth
Help me, Lord, to be humble and broken
To be receptive to love so softly spoken
By your grace Lord, I would ask you to allow
Your humble servant here and now
To be an instrument for love and in word
A channel of peace for all that have heard
Take Lord and Receive
All that is within me
Use it all as you see fit
Take it all, the smallest bit
All I ask is your love and grace
A chance to glimpse your face
I need nothing, no other stuff
Only this and it will be enough
Based on and inspired by the Suscipe prayer from St. Ignatius Loyola. Suscipe is Latin for receive.

It's time to take a spiritual audit
Take stock of our accounts and plot it
Where are we spiritually? Red or Black?
Are we simply playing defense or are we on the attack?
What is cluttering our lives preventing light from getting in?
And what is so loud that we can't hear God above the din?
Do not be afraid my children, do not live in fear
Trust in the power of God knowing He is here
Let his love lift you up from the spiritual grave
Go therefore and proclaim: "My God is mighty to Save!"
At times we lose sight of what matters the most
None are perfect, indeed, so that none may boast
But we return to God with all our hearts
Cleanse us Lord of all that keeps us apart
Fear has no place before God's amazing grace
Trusting in God and his power and glory
We share in the writing of salvation's story
Let it be done to me according to Your Will
And give me the courage to wait and be still
Lead me back to your loving arms once again
Trusting in the power of God and not men
I fall on my knees "Lord, rescue me please
From myself and from my enemies.
I (re)dedicate my life to you in this hour on this day
And the fear that once controlled me be overcome I pray

So many of us have so much clutter in our lives (both physical and spiritual) that we miss all the blessings and God's great purpose and plan for our lives. Two stories that come to mind about clutter and houses in the Bible are the story of Zacchaeus and the story about Jesus overturning the tables in the temple. Our heart's house (temple) for the Lord is cluttered and there are places we are ashamed of; places that are locked and hidden away. The Album (See Inside) by Out of the Grey is wonderful and ties to this theme quite well, especially the song "That's Where I Live". We know you live inside our hearts, make our heart your home, a place you want to live, and help us open the door and welcome you in. Lord, give us the courage and strength by your grace to dedicate or (re)dedicate our lives to you today. Amen

My life is a reflection like a piece of mirrored glass
The sands of time creep on and one day I will pass
From this world to the place of angels and saints
And for the joy of perfect wonder my soul faints
In my life may I reflect on God, reflect with God
May I reflect God himself and shine his eternal light
May I be filled with hope and love and find the strength to fight
What do I mirror and do my words match what shows
Between good and evil in moments of decision I froze
Was I good enough for God and does it even matter
Such doubts cloud my heart and make Him even sadder
The old is gone away and behold a new creation
And the clean start fills my heart with elation
It is a time to reflect on the events of the past year
To count our many blessings and recognize He was here
A time to thank God for all he has graciously given
And to be grateful for another year of livin’
When people look at me do they see the Lord instead
Do I live in a way that follows what Jesus in the Bible said
I pray that each of us would reflect love, peace and truth
That we would support the elderly and build up our youth
May our lives be good examples for our children to follow
That our promises and words would not ring hollow
Let us be careful for our youth are watching carefully
And in all answers great and small let us give them prayerfully
Help us see beyond the surface to the secret place inside
To the ember of life that never dies and where darkness hides
Shine in us shine through us and shine within our hearts today
Help us Lord reflect you more and more each day

Remember when we used to play outside until the sun went down
Remember when we used to laugh run and have no cares or worries
Remember how much brighter the sun was and colors radiant
Remember what it felt like to fly with the birds and swim in the sea
Remember how we were once young and fierce and free?

Now the world seems a little colder a little darker than before
Now it seems that little by little, life has somehow passed us by
We no longer know what it feels like to soar what it means to be alive
Full of concern we worry and fret we begin to forget
What things were like before we grew up.

Eyes so full of wonder filled with a sense of awe capturing each moment
Ears that take in every word every sound
Heart so filled with love and hope and more than big enough for all
Head full of hopes and dreams imagination and inspiration
Have a light and happy heart and never forget to bring your smile

There are many things we may end up teaching our kids one day
Important things to be sure
But our kids teach us and remind us where our focus should lie
Though we may not feel it sometimes they keep us young I would be remiss
If I forgot to mention the wisdom of a child is not a thing to dismiss

They look up to you and for better or for worse they are constantly watching
“I want to be a man like you” or “I want to marry a man just like daddy”
No sweeter words could a father hear, a greater gift no parent could ask for
Let us live our lives with balance: equal measures of youth and maturity
Of work and play, of fun and sincerity

May we have the grace to find balance in our lives
May we receive the judgment to put it into practice
And the peace that comes from having it realized

Amen

So often I fall into sin. More often than not, it's the same one or two. I fall down again and again and it's hard to not get discouraged. I heard a beautiful song today that said "a saint is just a sinner who fell down... and got back up again. There are good days, weary days and bad days, but in the end the good days outweigh the bad days and so I won't complain". To me, it's a simple and beautiful reminder of something we all too often forget. In a contemplation from St. Thomas Merton, it said that hell is hatred and it's a hatred not of other, but of what we know others see in ourselves. It is the "curse of shattered sight". (A secular TV reference, but well applicable for these purposes). Sin is a symptom of this shattered sight as well. It is a desire for the good, but the good is twisted and distorted and we are caught in the trap of "looking for love in all the wrong places". We see the worst things that other people see in us and fail to see the good. We end up turning against each other and destroying ourselves. The love that satisfies and fulfills is the love of God for us, his beloved children. He loves us and accepts us for who we are: good, bad, shattered sight and all and he sent His only son to die for us when we were his foe. How great is the Father's love for us! To be truly free, we must admit to ourselves that we are imperfect, and we make mistakes. Even when we ***** up pretty bad, good family and friends still love us, accept us, encourage and challenge us to move forward and keep doing better. If there are those like us who can do that, then surely God, in his perfection, will do that all the more! Accept yourself fully and embrace all of who you are. We cannot truly love others or be loved by others if we don't love ourselves. Next time you fall, remember: Jesus fell (in love) for you, and he fell three times (out of the fullness of love) for you, and got back up again.

Lord Jesus, please grant us the strength and grace to get up again when we fall down. Help us accept and love ourselves without condition as you first did for us. By your grace and mercy, heal us from this shattered sight in accordance with your will and may we find comfort and solace by your side in the shadow of the cross. Amen.

Amazing Grace: your gift for all. So amazing your grace that you would die for us sinners on a cross in shame and agony though sinless yourself.

How Sweet the Sound: to hear "your sins are absolved"

That Saved a Wretch Like Me: Compared to your perfection and glory we are truly wretched. All blackened by sin, but because of your death on a cross not by water or blood, but by water and blood we are saved and washed clean and white. The only chance we have of getting into heaven is by your gift of Amazing Grace.

I Once Was Lost: like a sheep who strays from the flock and wanders off

But Now Am Found: I am safe and sound in your arms once again. You rescue me from danger and bring me back safe and sound.

Was Blind: because of sin and my faults, wrapped up in a blanket of hurting and lies.

But Now I See: the magnitude of this gift you give and because of your death, the pure spotless lamb, and the cleansing blood you shed for me and for many that sins might be forgiven.

'Twas Grace That Taught My Heart To Fear: fear you in a deep respect for your power, fear of not having you always there and fear of satan and the cost of sin.

And Grace My Fears Relieved: I used to fear what would happen if I sinned and I still fear as I should always, but I take comfort in the knowledge that when I sincerely repent, do my best to sin no more, and to avoid the things that lead me to sin I will be forgiven.

How Precious Did That Grace Appear: It is by Grace and Grace alone that we are saved and indeed how precious, how special Grace was as it appeared to me

The Hour I First Believed: The hour I came to believe in you Jesus my Savior who shed your blood, died and rose again that I might live!

The First Sorrowful Mystery: The Agony in the Garden

Shortly before his death, Jesus goes to the garden to pray for grace and strength. He tells his disciples "Watch and Pray" Jesus enters into prayer so deeply that his sweat is as drops of blood mixing on the ground with his tears. Even in the great darknss and desolation, he finds strength to say: "Let this cup pass before me. But not my will, but as you will it Father."

Jesus tells us as he told his disciples "Watch and Pray". It sounds like a pretty simple task, but it's hard. In the midst of the darkness and despair, Jesus found strength and grace in prayer to his Father. In our darkest times, we can also call on our Father in heaven to sustain us. Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane was as the Garden of Eden after the sin of Adam and Eve. Blood was used to cover sin and wash it away. The blood, sweat and tears in the garden are a reminder of our fallen state as well as an example of the Eucharist with blood and water.

We Pray: Jesus, help us to remember that whatever we go through in life, even and especially in our darkest times, remind us of the strength and grace we receive from our Heavenly Father. Help us also remember of your great love for us in your suffering and agony. Even when we fail, when we sin, when we turn away, you are with us. You love us, you forgive us, you run out to us and take us back. You counted up the cost and we are worth it. It cost everything and you paid the price so we wouldn't have to. Nothing we could ever do could amount to what you gave The best I can do is offer my life for you and my neighbor and try to die to myself daily. I am truly and eternally grateful, for by your amazing grace, I have the opportunity to be with you for all eternity. Thank you Jesus!

Regrets (Going Home)

I’m sitting at the stop light waiting for the light to turn green
Traffic is bad and I’m waiting for an hour it seems
The song on the radio is playing one from Red
And thoughts keep spinning ‘round, like a carousel in my head
I’m living like I’m driving: always moving but not taking time
To be in the moment or to read the signs
Going through the motions on autopilot every day
What more is there to life? Is there a better way?
What have I been missing that is hiding in plain sight?
There is more in this world outside my personal plight
You know I’m thinking about you now
And I sit here wondering how
You are doing and everything I’m missing
I had so many chances and here I am wishing
Hoping I could go back and do it all over again
To be there for you to be there for my best friend
I lost sight of what was truly important in pursuit of personal gain
I have all this money but the fact still remains:
I have no family now and money simply cannot fix
This emptiness inside the sadness from all this
I want you to know I’m sorry and I was so wrong
I never realized how much I had until all of it was gone
Please know I pray for you and for the kids whenever I can
I know I could’ve been better, been a Godlier man
I could’ve gone to church on Sundays, prayed a little more
I could’ve stood up for our family: a thing worth fighting for
If only I had been aware before all that I now know
I might have done things differently if so
I have come to understand a little a purpose far greater than me
Life is more than just a job, money, or nice things I believe
It is family, it is love, it is a something that you feel
In your heart, in your soul, and it is very real
Helping others, taking care of yourself, being there, showing love
These are all things that matters most if push comes down to shove
Then again it’s not too late to try to reconcile
I’ll take responsibility for consequences and go the extra mile
The only thing I would ask is to keep me in your prayers
And that you know wherever you go someone really cares
The song changes, the light turns and I continue heading home
To a place I can go back to no matter how far away I might roam

Rejoice and be glad for you have been set free
A Holy Nation, a Fruitful People you will be
You were once long in exile and shame
For you turned against God and His Sacred Name
You were a people lost in great darkness
A creation of your own desire and wickedness
But rejoice for your light has come
Bright shining like the sun
He will raise you up again a mighty nation
Your God has chosen you from all creation
Freedom for prisoners, strength for the weak
Justice for the oppressed, life for those who seek
Give thanks and praise to the God who saves
Sing to Him a new song born of a grateful heart
Live your lives in the light of Christ so others imitate
Your example and may also enter the narrow gate
Rejoice; for today, salvation has come
Now go and share it with everyone!

I look up at the million brilliant lights dancing in the heavens far above,
I see the moon and its soft and gentle glow and somehow I know.
I remember and believe the times we had together:
It was a love that we thought would last forever.

I smell the sweet flowers in the air; picture the wind rushing through your hair.
The days were long and we would run and laugh and play
We were young and we were free we were perfect, you and me,
And we thought that life would always be this way.

But the years went by and the days grew cold
You moved on and stories unfold
Some days I wonder what it was we had and why it’s gone away
I wonder what happened to us and if it was but an elaborate dream

I shake my head I just know that it was real;
There is just no mistaking what it is I feel.
Are there nights when you look out and feel the same?
I will cherish always both the joy and the pain.

Sometimes I still catch myself asking what might have been.
Then again what might have been is irrelevant:
I would not be who I am today were it not for you
I love you and our time together and I pray that you did too.

It is by love and mercy that we get right to the heart of God. By grace and faith we are saved. His is a gift freely given, but we must accept the gift. We must see with the eyes of a child for Children are right in the heart of God. Let the children come to me, whoever accepts these children accepts me and whoever rejects my children rejects me and the one who sent me. Jesus doesn’t mean only kids. He also means us the adopted sons and daughters of Christ. Whoever accepts my children accepts me and whoever rejects my children rejects me and the one who sent me. St. Faustina whose feast day it is (Oct. 5) got right to the heart of God and helped reveal to us His Merciful Heart and the depths of His Mercy and Love. Many people seem to have left the heart of God, lets try to get back right to the heart of God. Our prayers reach Our Father’s ears and go right to the heart of God. Jesus, we trust in you, help us trust in you all the more. Lead us home to be with you and guide us as we strive to go right to your heart.

Your love is an arrow shot straight to my heart
And against all odds it found its mark
Like a bullseye was painted right on my chest
The wall cracked and the Spirit did the rest
The walls fell down like when Joshua blew his horn
And somehow from dust and ashes I was reborn

Now I’m all aquiver like a bow drawn taut and tight
I see what I’m aiming for as I look down the sight
Arrows of love are nocked and ready
Center myself my hand is steady
Take a breath and feel the tension go
It will reach its target somehow I know
Your hand will guide it as it flies through the air

To the lame he says get up from your mat and walk
To the mute he says open your mouth and talk
It’s a call to action a movement come alive
It’s a summons for the people it is time to rise
To rise above the anger and pent up rage
To look forward and write a new page
We are lifted up to more than we can be
And it’s on those shoulders that we can start to see
Sometimes the only way we stand is on our knees in prayer
Sometimes it’s only looking back that we see God was there
Cast your eyes to Heaven with prayer like sweet perfume
Let it saturate the air around you and fill this holy room
We were made for more; something truly grand
And one day, someday we might finally understand
We are more than our weakness the sins of our past
We are covered in mercy and grace so vast
We will overcome heartache and sorrow
As sure as the sun will rise again tomorrow.
We have the love of Christ Crucified
We received Life when we should have died
When we die to ourselves we live for each other
We will see through his eyes to love our brother
When we stand united I begin to realize
That there is hope and from the ashes we may rise
Like the Phoenix that dies to be reborn in flame
I believe that, one day, we will do the same

Sometimes I ask God "Where do you want me to go?" Sometimes he doesn't seem to answer, sometimes he shows me clear and SOMETIMES He puts up detours and roadblocks and construction so that I end up where he wants me to go. It is never quick or efficient and it rarely makes sense. It's also often not what I WANT, but it's always what I truly NEED. It also requires patience and love because the road is long and can be quite frustrating. In the midst, I can be aggravated, but in the end, I'm amazed!

Cloud of witnesses, champions of the faith
Warriors of prayer on our behalf
As we are sitting in the most holy walls
The song of salvation echoes in these halls
Such wonder I can hardly take it in
And now I stop so You can truly begin

Oh Mother Most Holy, Oh Mother Divine
To my prayers and petitions thine ear incline
Strengthen me in my weakness
In my darkness shine your light
In your graces ever flowing
Grant a heart of peaceful knowing
Though I am small, I need not be afraid
For great is the work they hands have made
Who am I that my Lord would choose me
So that I might become his blessed sanctuary

Lift high the Cross of Christ: your sword
Gird your waist with the shield of faith
Bind the devil with Heaven's holy cord
The most holy Rosary, Mary's great grace
