Written Letters
Shaun Yee Jan 2021
So sad will be the days
when people don’t write letters
with pen and paper anymore

The beauty of hand-written words
and uniqueness of style in script
will be eroded to the core

The warmth and human closeness
of letters scripted by the hand
will slowly cease to exist

For they will be replaced
by the uncaring coldness
of type writes of the computing beast

Not Much To Ask
Shaun Yee Jul 2022
To whom it may concern

at night I go to bed I hope to find,
ways to leave any daily ills behind,
to just get a healthy refreshing rest,
and to wake up the next day feeling best,
so I can duly face my daily task,
and surely this is not too much to ask?

Reflections
Shaun Yee Feb 2021
On so many moonless nights,
With a star above as friend,
I let my thoughts to wander,
Reflections that never end.

Slowly, intensely, silently,
I allowed myself be drawn,
To where I knew for sure,
Dreams and fantasies are born.

They were all inside my mind,
All my feelings old and new,
I often kept them all alone,
And I always thought of you.

Frozen Tramps In Winter
Shaun Yee Feb 2022
Some nights the degrees dropped below zero,
Heavy snow rained down to the ground below,
Covering homeless tramps bundled and old
On sidewalks shivering with freezing cold

Some luckless beggars sleep on parks' benches,
Forever trapped by penniless fences,
A handful few will not survive till dawn
Not even when the final ice is gone
Note: in Europe every year, some poor homeless outdoor tramps die in winter from the freezing cold - very sad

The Rainbow
Shaun Yee Jun 2022
I saw the colours one rainy day,
Just after the showers had all gone,
The seven were brilliant, freshly formed,
Above in the skyway where they shone;
The Rainbow stayed for just a short while,
Before it slowly began to fade,
And I was struck with the calm and peace,
Grateful for what sun and rain had made.

True Love
Shaun Yee Aug 2022
True love is the noblest feeling,
that the mystic self can attain,
For it is completely blind
to criticism or judgement,
And hate, revenge and self pity
it can easily restrain,
Like the dog's undying love
for its master good or bad,
Or the mother's unrestricted love
for her baby happy or sad;

True love is mentally abstract
with no physical connection,
And cannot be confused
with ***, lust and egoism,
For it is mated with intuition,
kindness and understanding,
And fused with loyalty
and human compassion,
Sustaining a permanent
fondness and affection;

"Love" as it is widely used,
is too shallow and common,
and is not really love at all,
Because true love for many people,
is something they cannot recall.
Is love confusing? Love and lust

Criticism
Shaun Yee Jan 2021
It is always disconcerting,
when one hears a person,
who is finding fault with another,
has the very same fault too,
like the cliché of the ***
calling the kettle black.
somehow one can notice others
but not notice oneself;
So before we criticise,
it is wiser to first take stock
of ourselves, and see if we have
the same falling block.

Enjoying Nature
Shaun Yee Jan 2021
Listen to singing birds in trees,
And chirping crickets in the night,
Follow the flitting fireflies
flirting their lanterns burning bright.

Dance with the dancing butterfly,
Bond with the buzzing bumblebee,
Sing together with the seagulls
screaming shrilly over the sea.

Be charmed by rainbows in the sky,
And brilliant bluebells that you see,
Enjoy those refreshing raindrops,
Nature is here for you and me.

Ending
Shaun Yee May 2023
The end may come one dismal day
Before we can have the final say
It make take us by surprise
Even before the next sunrise
We must accept that life will end
Make all preparations beforehand
So we can greet each new dawn
When all our worries are gone

Fairies
Shaun Yee Sep 2022
They come to visit us,
In the early hours before dawn,
If you want to see them,
Look for them in the lawn,
By the dew-covered plants,
And flowers if there be,
Fairies are fragile beauties,
And are not so easy to see;
Most fairies are feminine,
Though male ones do exist,
But they are usually hidden,
In the early morning mist,
And if by chance a fairy,
Should happen to come your way,
You can rest assured,
It will be your lucky day.

Illusions
Shaun Yee Jan 2021
If I saw a crooked man,
Staggering down the street,
And every now and then,
He has to regain his feet;
Would I be right to say
He’s had too much to drink?
Or should I not judge like that
Much further I should think?

If I saw a shadow then,
Lurking behind a tree,
Could I conclude somehow,
The shadow must be a he?
Or maybe I could be wrong,
The form behind the tree,
Is possible it’s not a man,
The shadow may be a she.

If I were sleeping and I heard,
A gunshot in a house,
Could I think someone’s been shot,
For no one shoots a mouse?
Or could it be that even,
If I had heard a scream,
There was really nothing wrong,
It was just a simple dream.

It’s so easy to conclude,
That white is always white,
And black is always black,
But is this always right?
We cannot always believe,
Our faithful ears and eyes,
Will always tell the truth,
And never tell us lies.

The Seasons
Shaun Yee Jan 2021
Summer is bright and sunny,
Its days are long and hot,
Gaiety and festa fill the air,
Cold days it hasn’t got.

Autumn days are really nice,
They’re neither hot nor cold,
Life outdoors is simply pleasant,
Amongst the trees of gold.

Winter though is cold and grey,
A warm sun may appear,
Winter snow is very pretty,
Though sidewalks disappear.

Spring is cool and sun is warm,
Flowered scents fill the air,
Animals awake, birds return,
Freshness is everywhere.

So each season weaves its charm,
Casting its spell on earth,
In varied ways it spreads its joys,
Since its time of birth.

Ending Alone
Shaun Yee May 2022
With billions of people on this land,
Each person is but a grain of sand;

* So alone he lingers sadly on,
With memories too dreadful to bear,
Alone she suffers with wretched thoughts,
No one her burden to really share *

Impotence surrounds, scarce are true friends,
Relief is really found when life ends.

Black Thoughts at Night
Shaun Yee Apr 2021
They come out in the night,
The darkness is where you find,
Black thoughts, dark thoughts,
They crawl into your mind.

When the night is long,
When all seems very ugly,
Dark thoughts sap your strength
And leave you sad and lonely.

So that’s the time to think,
Of joys and happiness you’ve had,
All the good friends in your life,
Then things won’t seem so bad.

And I'm already snug in bed
For I have to get up early

If you happen to see me

If you have a crumb to spare
That would be a kindly thought.

Live your life each minute fully,

Women
Shaun Yee Mar 2021
The world would be a drab place,
Without our gentler ***,
They fill our lives with colours,
and  beauty without pretext.

And their feline behaviour,
Subtle, enticing and coy,
Can turn a so-called macho man,
Into an obedient boy.

Clothes, make-up, yearly fashions,
Blend with art, flowers and rainbows,
They subdue the minds and senses,
Like pleasant April showers.

Men have remained with male colours,
Mainly blue, brown, grey and black,
For too many colours shift them,
On to the feminine track.

So the world is more colourful,
With our lovely gentler ***,
And men may also be thankful,
Women have put on them the hex.

The Vanishing
Shaun Yee Feb 2022
He was walking his dog in the park that day,
And paused by the fountain where the pigeons play,
There he fell and then vanished without a trace,
Leaving his dog to bark at his empty space.

The police searched all over for him in vain,
His family was drowned in sorrow and pain,
No one knew exactly what happened to him,
The chances of finding him were pretty slim.

After seven years all hope began to fade,
For everyone thought that he was really dead,
Suddenly he appeared at the place he fell,
Everyone was overjoyed he looked so well.

They were dismayed he couldn’t explain a thing,
He’d no memory at all of anything,
But one day he vanished once more in the rain,
And then this time he never came back again.
Every year hundreds of thousands of people all over the world disappear. Only a small percentage of them are found. This poem is partly factual and partly fiction with a slight accent on horror

Seashell
Shaun Yee Jun 2022
It waited alone on damp sand,
For the tide, to rejoin its band,
Hidden safely inside its cone,
A shellfish stranded on its own.

It had no door that I could see,
It was always open to be
Ready to crawl out to take flight,
From anything that gave it fright.

I thought I’d check if I could hear,
While holding it close to my ear,
The sound of waves some people say,
Are locked inside all night and day.

And yes, inside I know not where,
The wind and waves were surely there,
So it really is very true,
Within you hear the ocean blue!
