Love (Haiku 002)
Sean Hunt Feb 2020
Mysterious mechanism
that can brighten up my life
now finally works
Sean Hunt Jun 2018
I don’t want to go to heaven
it’s ‘somewhere up there’
and they all say that
‘God lives there’

The place I want to to go
doesn’t have a name
and everyone you meet
looks the same

You lose your eyes
but everybody sees
everyone is special
no hierarchy

There’s nothing to judge
no right and no wrong
no throne to climb up
and sit down on

I don’t want to go to heaven
‘cause it’s up in the air
the place I want to go is
everywhere

The End
Sean Hunt Jan 2020
From out of the void
it came without warning
one winter morning

In a spin, out of control
no warning,
escaping an orbit

The blaze that was left
for many minutes
warmed the world

but this surprise summer
did not last very long

and we could not sing
to the end of our song

New
The year is new they say
but seems to be the same
The people that I've known for years
play the same game
Cats and dogs don't celebrate
don't even know the date
To them there's nothing new
They're never early never late

The Voice
Sean Hunt Aug 2019
An omen was sensed by all
though the meaning no one saw
When we were stopped by the wall
there was nothing to do but fall
with passive acceptance
a senseless descent
into a rainy lake of stillness
then when the ripple began
we heard the voice of the captain

A Tale
Sean Hunt Jul 2019
A tale I will tell
about people and places
of olden times

That which has been covered
almost forever
by stardust
will now be seen
in the light
of the sun
by everyone

In the desert of extremes
where day and night
are mean
at times
her heart
beat
as long as it could
until it surrendered
to a never-ending army
of mercenaries
who were paid
in silver
and gold

They surrounded
her oval oasis
until
there was quiet

while

innocent
but effervescent
passers-by

Sunday Afternoon Special
Sean Hunt Jul 2018
Sunday afternoon special
should have been
the daily destination
floating in space
an unfamiliar place
'sacred union' newly found
turned us upside down
We didn't know what to do
This was too new
for me
and for you

It Worked
Sean Hunt Jul 2019
We had to change our dream
yesterday
on Saturday
when the blasphemous
Catholic bells
were banging away
at our brains

We both ran
far away
from the bells
yesterday
to sit beside
a river stream
to try to change our dream

It worked

Where Is This Poem?
Sean Hunt Mar 2018
It may inspire some ire
be burned in a fire
or placed in a gilded frame
to be read again and again

But where is my poem
before I write it down
I can look all around
It cannot be found

When written and read
by someone new
do they read the poem
read by me or you?

Is the title the poem
or word number nine?
If you check you will see
it's not in a line

The poem's not a verse
nor is it a word
and it's not a salad
of sounds that are heard

Try to point at this poem
It will dis appear
into thin air
and not be found anywhere

A poem is a magic act
and that's a fact

Gifts
Sean Hunt Jul 2018
She gave her wisdom
from days of yore
She could have given her more

She gave her a heart
the size of a small bird
to feel and heal the world

She gave her a vision
free from fear
It could have been more clear

She gave her a smile
but still she cried
The smile could have been wider

Free From The Sea
Sean Hunt May 2018
When this world became too heavy for you
and you thought there was nothing you could do
to lighten your load
pay the debts that you owed
you called it quits
You said “That's the end of it”

Though beaten by the waves
for a moment you became brave
strong enough to seem tough
You abandoned your body and your mind
You left it all behind

You went off on your own to a world unknown
Turned off the lights and you closed your eyes

You were washed by the waves
thrown up on the shore
and freed from the sea
where you'll swim no more
You left it all behind
You left your body and your mind

You went off on your own to a world unknown
turned off the lights and you closed your eyes

Goodbye my friend, we wish you well on your way
from here to there, from darkness to day

The Problem
Sean Hunt Jun 2019
The ocean in which we sail and swim
is filled to the brim with plastic and tin

Forests are falling rivers are dry
and we are all wondering why

We believe it’s the fault of the corporate few
and not the fault of me or you

We’re looking here we’re looking there
it seems we’re looking everywhere

But the elusive answer we’re trying to find is
the persistence of greed in the human mind

A recycling program should be put in place
for delusions in minds in the human race

Our love is selective for those who are close
Our love is elective for those in the shadows

Other people who we do not know
are lucky to receive a cold ‘hello’

‘Self’ is the enemy over here
This is where we need some fear

Some words that I heard were certainly solemn
A wise man said “No self, no problem”

The Burning Journal
Sean Hunt Nov 2018
My journal is burning
While I write down the words
that never will be seen
and never will be heard

Burning coals cover the ground
fires starting all around
and I know the things I’ve lost
never will be found

It’s so hard to even start
when the ending is in sight
and the dreams of this night
will never see the light

We think that things stay the same
but we are wrong
We think that the summer will somehow stay
but we are wrong
We always think we'll live another day
but we are wrong
We think that we will never age
but we are wrong
The code for the door didn't work today

Silently
Grains of sand are falling slow
something like flakes of snow
that melt before they touch the ground

Silently
Moments come and moments go
No one even knows
like waves of sound

Silently
We drive the winding road
Life after life with nought to show
but still we double down

Silently
Flying high and swooping low
falling like a crippled crow
another king uncrowned

My Mother’s Wake
Sean Hunt May 2019
Son number one remembered the words he could have said
during the days that he stood by her bed

The Pharmacist came to pay his respects and he cried
He came and he cried when he heard that she had died

Her husband descended into his loss
With so many holes to fill in his life
He now knew the wonder of his wife

One brother placed a teddy bear beside her
as she lay inside her heaven-bound home
She had told him no one had ever given her one

The Pharmacist came to pay his respects and he cried
He came and he cried when he heard that she had died

My mother’s brother grieved when he heard the words
that some of her sons said about the other ones

Her one daughter contemplated all the things
that some of her sons ought to have done
in the days before she was gone

The Pharmacist came to pay his respects and he cried
He came and he cried when he heard that she had died

Myopic gunmen spouting out
silliness:
“Four guns to one”, say some
and the deal will be done
“Evil villain children
will be bullet ridden
falling to the ground
before they can fire a round
Before their guns can make a sound
they will be taken down”

There are none so blind
as those who will not see
in the land of the brave
and the home of the free

How Many ?
Sean Hunt Jan 2019
How many winters will I brave
How many things will I crave
How many summers will I see
How many people will I be
How many more tears will fall
How many times will I climb that wall
How many mentioned in my will
How many wishes unfulfilled
How many nights of restless sleep
How many promises will I keep
How many rainbows will I see
one or two or thirty three?

Seeing
Sean Hunt Feb 2019
We think we can see
You and me

I see you
You see me

but who do we really see?

I know there is no you
I know there is no me

so who
do we really see?

We see a projection screen
The world we see we dream
The people with their faces
this world with all it's places
as real as a rainbow
or a shadow show

This we need to know

Onion Soup
Sean Hunt Mar 2019
My soup will beat any Michelin meal
Maybe mine is much more real
Though there's nothing in the bowl
it tastes so good
and every thing is understood
My favourite meal is onion soup
Every day I dine on ultimate truth
I eat my layers of onion one by one
I'm so happy when I get to the middle one
Sipping onion soup with my inner eye
What a wonderful taste, My Oh My!
When there's nothing to eat
nothing to chew
it's time to digest
There's nothing to do

The antisocial media
Is spying with their cyber eye

They know more than we think
They tell us where to buy and sell
what to eat and what to drink

They siphon off our code
and tell us how to vote

Their surreptitious spin
explains the state that we are in

The privacy of ancient times
has drifted away
and the piracy of modern days
is here to stay

in time and space
traveling far
to find this place

Distance is nothing
Time is now
We are going and coming
like a passing cloud

Water over fire
steeped in our sins
the cause of creation
elemental origins

Time makes us tender
for the coming feast
When the culture of the west
consumes the culture of the east
