Since when...
Did we decide
That words could be sharpened
And used as tools
To pierce into other's confidence
And scrap their flesh of esteem

To put them down
And tell them it is their fault
For what happened to them
There is a difference between constructive criticism and criticism.

I’m addicted to the feel of cold metal sliding across bare flesh
Addicted to the instant
when nothing marks smooth skin
immediately before
red rivers rapidly rise
painting a once white canvas
with a flood of emotion,
tears on my cheeks,
sobs caught in my throat,
numbness replaced by pain & sadness.
Addicted to the imperfection
of red welts and dotted scabs that follow,
fingers drawn like magnets
to the texture of healing skin,
tracing over and over and over now fading ridges
Amazed that I am strong enough
to heal myself over and over and over.
Convincing myself that I am strong enough.
I find strength in my weakness.

~flickering~

like love. like time. like her.

little flame quivers and sighs
she glows a warm amber,
and her light is welcome;
it awakens plumes of dust,
casts shadows on the
walls and floors
where memories forever sleep.

the table is piled high with boxes bearing
clothes she had sewn and hemmed
for growing legs,
broken and mended china,
and boxes filled with
a volume of aged letters –
written in last year's bleeding ink
and sealed with a memory.

and her last syllables form words in mind:

~“we will all burn away,
but I will be with you until morning arrives,
on its withering arms of gold,
and I will be standing there,
rose in hand,

and I will give to you in death
what I could not in life.”

We die and paint with words
our feelings blood red flow
with a paintbrush like a sword
delivering every blow

We hurt and cry in blue
our tears are like rain
and every time we think of you
our dreams will scream in pain

and we will love the suns first ray
then shine like stars at night
so when we die our words will say
a heart once used to write

My Last Poem
 Jul 2020 manlin

I want this to be
the last poem that I've written
while I'm sipping on my tea
after everything's been eaten

after everything has been digested
then gone to my mid-section
after every recipe been tested
and cooked to perfection

but now the dishes are all stacked
and empty is the fridge
I'm ready waiting fully packed
crossing my life's bridge

so let me slowly sip my tea
and let me out loud slurp
this poem i will want to be
worth a one last burp

i used to be eighteen with blue hair
exuding the pure waters of my heart
to the tangled tips of my salt ridden curls
by nineteen the colors of my waves were stolen by darkness
oil spilling out
to leave a story told in the blackest parts of my eyes
but like oceans before me
the murkiness faded
and sunlight began to graze my waters
but my heart never flowed quite as strong
and the colors no longer touched my curls

sloth
slouch on the couch
idly waste the time
tomorrow will always arrive

lust
because there is just
an insatiable thirst
lock the door first

gluttony
all of us would agree
that food is sacred
no one's satisfied until fed

wrath
take an anger bath
soak in its vengeance
until the last dance

pride
it is your guide
to stand on the mountain high
stepping unto others 'til they die

envy
because you don't wanna see
what you do not possess
take it; claim it; in every possible ways

greed
giving is not your deed
why, if you can horde
you'll be the master—the lord

because everyone is guilty
of the seven sins so deadly
you can deny it, but then quietly
your guilt eats you, painful and slowly

she said it
wasn’t her

looking back
she went outside

to find herself

she loved her
shadow more

she said

it was always
honest with her
