I don’t want to be needed,
need fades when it’s fed.
I’d rather be wanted,
a choice, not a thread.

Live free, live whole,
independent, complete
but if you call me,
I’ll answer,
not out of duty,
but because my heart
pulled my hands to the keys.

I love my people,
but not like anchors.
More like stars:
far apart,
yet still shining
in the same sky.

As long as I know you’re okay,
I can breathe easy too.
And when our paths cross,
it won’t be because we must,
but because we chose to.
