He appeared out of the fog
Once I was done reading the letter
I was crying my eyes out
When he said it had to be this way

“Tell me what my crime is” I pleaded
He leaned in and wrapped me around in his arms
And said “I don’t feel the same way you do,
My integrity will only bring shame on your love”

Why out of all the times now?
When I was just starting to feel the summer
He brought drought in my beautiful land
With a letter that he should have never sent
This is Scene 5 of The Altar I Was Denied, a short story in form of poetry.
