She was a beautiful and dutiful lass.
She lived in a far different world,
Somewhere in the distant past.
And her lad was brave and chivalrous.

Those days are gone, alas,

As is the lad and lass.
While our time hurtles and twirls
We see life get scarier and more scary
And we become the past,

To someone else's "alas".
