For my Father
tell me of a memory
so, when they slide from your grasp
forever - they will be held in mine
tell me stories of a young boy,
of a childhood lullaby
of how the sun felt that summer you thought would never end
of days spent laughing
tell me of a mother's love -
of adventure
of peace
of pain
tell me your worries
tell me your hopes
tell me of words left unsaid
tell me of silent hands clasped
let me know your soul
let me cradle your memories
let me remember you when you begin to forget
let me carry you as you've carried me -
keep you just a little longer
so, when your mind lets you down
when your memories fade
when the path through the copse is foggy -
forever I will hold them 'til time takes me too
then we'll meet in the shade
and I will give them back to you.
