wake up screaming
knowing
it is still there
like razor wire
coiled around
your inner thoughts
slowly shredding
the empathy that you court
as it whispers
the pious words
that you blindly repeat
to the hope
that still believes
that your intent
will set you free
from the coils
that hold your inner thoughts
in a place
that should not be
