Your eyes
were capsized
from the
moment that
I first saw
them,

long ago
broken
shallow
pieces
without
depth or
substance.

abandoned
left motionless
barely showing
a glimmer
of the light
behind them.

and so
I sit
and wait
with any
kind of
hope to
help
keep you
afloat.

you were
the woman
barely audible
in the
coffee line
before me.

and I all
of a sudden
was the
witness
to all of
the pirates
that had
left your
life in
shambles
over the
years,

and in that
moment

we were
one.
