2010's Teenhood
Oh, to be a teenager
Social media’s your wife
While you’re hanging on for life
Too socially unavailable but also too annoying
Never good enough for the boys but the second you go for girls “it’s just a phase!” they’re crying
Boys are mean but girls are worsening
For if you're not the rest of them, you should consider dying
Difference is a crime
But if you fit in, you're just basic
No matter what you’ll be judged for a lifeline
If only I was amnesiac
To forget about the social standers that I do not align
Music and bugs have been my best friend
From the fear my life, rights, and liberty will end
For the days begin to blend
Leaving the criminals you defend
Scared to walk home at night
Why at my lack of maturity do they excite?
All because of my pretty face, right?
I’m only fourteen
Never seen, but mean
This is all I can say behind the screen
For I live in fear
Despite not being a deer3
But a person, her intentions clear
But none cheer.
Oh, to be a teenager
Expected to grow up, but stay a child
For we all miss the days where we smiled
But that's the world we live in now.
