I always counted on our love
Thinking it would last forever
But alas our days were numbered
Should have seen it in the stars*

At "1" time I saw you both together
In the cafe' holding hands
The "2" of you looked so happy
That was not in my life's plans

I walked up to your table
Knew right away "3" was a crowd
I thought our love would last forever
Well "4" ever just ended now

I said I just need "5" minutes of your time
"6" minutes later I was sobbing where I sat
After the "7" surrounding tables stared me down
I turned in disgrace and left

So I "8" all alone that night
Breakfast for dinner was on my mind
I asked a German waiter if I could get it this late
His stern reply was "9"

I had no money to pay for my meal
So I got myself a "10" cup
Went to beg out on the street
I'd all but given up

When I was joined by "11" beggars
Who gladly taught me their skills
Of how to keep my head held high
While begging for free meals

Well "12" o'clock has rolled around
And to me that's really late
Because I have to get up early
So I can beg enough for tomorrow nights blind dinner date
