There are just two voices
society's and mine
there's a rift that can't be bridged
our minds could never combine

for I couldn't be bought or persuaded
too often I oppose and its truth I deny
the louder it yells and coaxes
the more I challenge and defy-

still painful is my scar
I had been bruised before
every single power it summoned
me to destroy and kicked me from its door

yet my voice it couldn't muzzle
my will refuses to give in or die
the rift widens and company we part
no longer need I tolerate its perennial lie.
