Growing bored, Chuckie took off for the nearest big city, making a splash in the tabloids & drawing the paparazzi to the Simple Homestead...
Eli Jr. was ready with a country-honed huckster's spiel picked up from wandering carnies & road weary traveling salesmen; modern day patented medicine men... Junior was Chuckie's favorite of her three or so stepchildren. He had his father's... money. So did she & they got along fine.
No wicked stepmother, Chuckie was a happy--go-lucky lush, having kicked H for the sake of maybe breathing another day. It was a high hope, but the field scrubbed kid, who'd been selling **** to passing bikers & truckers for years out of his horse- &-buggy hot rod, basically a model-T on wagon wheels; but t suited Junior fine.
He'd completed fifth grade twice & was ready to take on the world. Eli was also proud.
