Remember when we met so young and love so new
we didn't know what life would hold we had no clue
I had some dreams but fell so hard for you
before I knew it the knot was tied
and two precious kids arrived
our family and friends had doubts we'd survive

We struggled along to just make do and that didn't change my love for you but before you knew it we landed good jobs
we are climbing that ladder living high on the hog

You said you adored me I should trust in you
you said you were forever we would grow old together
why couldn't you just be who you said you were
I guess in your mind there was also a greener pasture

You know money don't mean much when you're paying with your soul
had to bite the bullet, take the leap and dig myself out of my own deep hole

I'd come to expect your cold and cruel words
but I scarcely believed it when I first heard
about the lies and the cheating and other deceit
I'd always hoped our love was for keeps

I decided to go for those dreams of long ago
now today I feel I stand proud and whole
never again to be under your thumb only peace of mind and possibilities to come

You thought you owned me and acted the cad
you thought you knew me and treated me bad
you took me for granted didn't know what you had
the lesson learned is don't make a strong woman mad

That innocent young girl is long gone replaced by a woman who stands her ground
there's no looking back just moving ahead
and never again for you will a tear be shed
