It's hard to be sober
life is against it
the world accentuates it
things don't get better--

but from reality
none could escape
it's all about enduring
the anguish and agony-

I and you, you and I
then the we and they
living is via dolorosa
the perennial sigh--

the existential vacuum
the pretended pleasantry and smile
our fears and sadness we repress
but we talk big and brave faces we assume.
