A poem can consist of a single word; poetry can be inadvertently created in ignorance or sheer stupidity; take someone like Sarah Palin who used to be accused of uttering 'word-salads'; as suspect as u might suppose that to be, it heralded a resurgence of poetry; anyone w/ two ears can hear words but ears are all but useless when listening to poetry; Emily Dickinson said that poetry ought to blow the top of one's head off but u have to be paying attention; reading or listening for that to happen, otherwise the noise is as subtle as classic Brian Eno; poetry can be silence, emptiness or nothing at all as if poetry exists or doesn't regardless of the existence of anything else; in the beginning was the word would be better expressed as in the beginning was poetry and poetry will remain when all things have passed away; poetry is composed of letters but no single letter is a poem or if it is there are letters of which we are unaware & meanings yet to be discovered as there are languages which we are as yet unable to speak
