Heads or tails my father would say
when it was time
for siblings to get
the window seat or not.

When it was a matter of who would
go first in the family game Friday nights,

Heads or tails my grandfather would say
tossing a coin in the air
to see who gets his goodies first.

When friends would be first to choose teams
in a neighborhood soft ball game.

All part of growing up in the big city.
Care to wager?
Heads you win to move on,
Tails you have to read the poem again.
