I was walking with my cousins
From the mall to the car
They came from the motherland
Although I don’t think my ancestors could have mothered
What was about to happen.
See, I had checked on my phone
And knew that it was about to snow
Although I had forgot to tell my cousins
I really wish I would have remembered

The first flakes began to fall down
I thought, It is a winter wonderland
Then the flakes began to turn into a snowstorm.
My cousins looked up and were confused.
Because they had not seen snow before
Not even in their movies.
Most of their movies were like Beyonce vs Rihanna
Or Obama vs Ghana’s President
They started to run
I shouted, The car is that way!
They screamed, Forget the car
O God, save us from this snow-fire!
My aunt was standing under a building
Shaking her head and saying, Not today, Satan

Their reactions hurt my feelings
I thought we were braver than this
Soon the snow turned to rain
What they could recognize
They came back sheepishly
And it was a long ride back
When I had to explain what snow was
And how it was not fire
