I thought that
I was in love
with a girl
I hardly knew.
Certain I could do
things her current boo
couldn’t ever come close to,

And yes she was a beauty
but she was clever
and kind to boot
a special quality
that deserved
to be pursued.

But that dude
was a good man to,
hard working,
good father,
adequate lover
put in his dues,
proved that he
truly loved her
as far as I observed.

I respect that.
I can't imagine
that I could
do much better.

It was a superficial affection,
an unrealistic fiction.
Their shared friendship
was so much better
then what my lustful
ego ever imagined.
