Didn't see it coming,

Struck down to the floor,

But in life you keep on going,

And coming back for more.
I want to dance until
my feet go sore
my anklets break free
and I faint on the floor.

I want to sing until
I lose all my senses
my lungs tear apart
and my larynx comes to
a screeching halt.

I want to laugh until
tears pour out my eyes
the darkness around me
gets dissolved in my
laughter's floodlights
and all the existing walls
shatter and break
by the sound of my guffaw.

I want to be like that
singing dancing laughing, mad woman
whom we like to stop and watch,
shake our heads in disapproval
and then secretly think –

'I wish I could be crazy like her!'
These tears have since turned red
From the wounds I'm bleeding out from
Write it down. Make a note.
Add it to your list.
Organize your facts so that
There's nothing you have missed.

Keep track of activities.
Organize your files.
Sift through clutter endlessly.
Maneuver 'round the piles.

Listen to the constant chatter
Occurring in your mind.
Update, upgrade, upload, and upscale
Before you get behind.

Connect all dots, look for answers--
Leave no stone unturned.
If the stress builds up then try
Acting unconcerned.

Be sure to take in everything;
Do not miss a sight.
You notice that your grasp is weakening?
Hold on with all your might.

Buy the latest, smartest, greatest--
Maybe pull some strings….
But wait! Surely life must offer
More than countless things.

Are YOU living or BEING lived?
Only you can know.
Slow down. Breathe. Smile. Don't be
Tossed to and fro.

Why be a slave to busyness
And ultimately curtail
Your freedom by condemning yourself
To your own private jail?

Why pore over volumes of words
For clues that will misguide you
Instead of looking within to see
That truth lies deep inside you?

Why seek answers in so many places
Hour after hour
When life's profound meaning can be
Reflected in a flower?

They sit together
Hand in hand
They kiss each other
With their feet in the sand

People that walk by
All stop and stare
Talk in hushed whispers
Why are people so unfair

Just because they are
Both of the same gender
When they are together
They are seen as the offender

But they committed no crime
No law has been broken
But the way they are treated
Can leave them heartbroken

How could it be said
That their love is untrue
Or that being who they are
Is something new

Don't judge people
For things they can't change
Don't discriminate against them
Or call them something strange

*We are all people
No matter what
That seems to be something
That we all forgot
Yesterday was 'Coming Out Day' and I wrote this poem hoping to bring some awareness about it. There are so many people out their who are too afraid to come out because of the prejudice against LGBT+ people or the fear that they will be treated differently. We need to stop treating people differently because of their sexuality or gender, even if you don't mean any harm by it you can make people feel extremely uncomfortable. I hope that one day their will no longer be a need for LGBT+ people to come out, just as there is no need for a heterosexual or cisgender person to. I hope that be can all become equal.
Why is it
that I feel most alive
when everyone is
busy sleeping
