What a view I see

The truth can be so painful

Such a light you did bring

You spent time melting the ice
That had formed for years
Showed me how to live again
And put aside my fears

You brought the mirror into my life
And showed me who I can be
Helped me to like the woman there
And to set her free

Watch the glowing trail
Sending rain to stop this blaze
Will be to no avail

What we believe and what is
Are they different things
The question is an age old one
So many of us bring

All of this that surrounds you
Where did it come from
The answer lies there in your heart

To unlock the gate

And why you hesitate

Ever searching for my niche
I find myself afire
Something new to conquer
To lift my spirits higher

I attack my conquest at a run

That cometh before the fall

I stretch my psyche 'til I'm transparent
I won't break but I'll sure bend
Putting so much in what I do
I light fires at both ends

When I reach my breaking point
What is important in the end
Is that I recall the lessons learned
When I seek my niche again

Why let a new heart shine on me
When mine is not to give
My heart still belongs to you
And without yours cannot live

I cannot let another soul
Near this heart of mine

No love here will they find

How can I continue in this pain

What exactly brings you to this state

Misconstrued conceptions run rampant

These two upon first glance
Appear to be the same

As you gaze upon the view
And determine which to take

You quickly will forsake

Now the beauty of the second path
It shines with such a light
Beaming down on all you want
'Til you forget what's right

With great haste you find yourself
Strolling right along
Heading down the second path
That doesn't lead you home

The second path I speak of
That seems so brightly lit
It soon turns into darkness
And your way you will forget

So if you find yourself there walking
In all darkness and in fear
Remember, there's still the first path
And it lies so very near

You go up the hill to find the prize
Then look at what you found
But what you're holding in your hands
Already made its rounds

You put it down and pick it up
And look at it again
What is there still remains
So you do it all again

Turn it over take a look
See if it will shine
Is what you thought you won
Only in your mind

Are we ever happy
With anything we gain
Or just searching for perfection
That cannot be obtained

You've drawn your curtains
And pulled your shades
Turned all your lights down low
Wishing after yesterday
Wondering where'd it go

You get on stage and take a bow
As you recall your youth
When everything was new to you
And dreams could still come true

Those were the days you can't forget
The world belonged to you
As you looked down from the clouds
And enjoyed the view

Challenges you took up quick
You stuck by your guns
'Til you grew tired of it all
And began to run

The beliefs branded in your heart
Were burned inside so deep
And you'd not go down without a fight
Your beliefs you meant to keep

Remove the shades from your eyes
Throw caution to the wind
All your curtains open wide
Turn your lights up once again

Stop wishing after yesterday
You've only grown older
What you were, you still are
Just wiser and much bolder

Distraction deep inside your head
It just won't go away
You try to think of something else
Inside your head it stays

It's breaking down those fences
You've built high around your heart
You fight it off with all you have
From you it will not part

It's melting ice that's built up strong
From years of numbing cold
Warming all those spaces of dormancy
With a fire that could melt gold

Breaking free for this ice
Is not even a choice
Distraction deep has taken hold
And this ice it has no voice

It calls to you in your sleep
Whispers from afar
A sweet familiar melody
Reminding you of who you are

It sings of dreams that you have lost
The future you had planned
Reminds you of another time
As a younger man

Feel it pulling at your soul
The spirit that's within
Daring you to sing along
And live your dreams once again

I wrote the words while you played the part
You played the music as I sang
I danced for you as you watched
Now the music’s been all rearranged

Could I possibly have forgotten the words
Would I ever have forgotten the tune
I can’t remember which foot to place first
And the music will be ending soon

Such a beautiful song was in place
And such joy it did bring
Never again will it be the same
The song that made every heart sing

I have spent a lifetime
Searching for you
So many different places
Has that search
Taken me to

I have known great joy
And shed many tears
I have lived and laughed
And loved
While searching
All these years

I have made mistakes
Yes, quite a few
Learning what I
Need and want
In my search for you

I have felt great pain
And danced out
In the rain
All of the while

I feel his warmth upon my face

But my day's grown dark and cloudy
And I miss him so

The day just keeps a passing
And I am growing cold
I suppose that I'll stop looking

Sometimes I can't see you and I can't feel you
There is nothing but emptiness in my air
Once I felt you all around me
Now I wonder if you're there

I feel so cold and all alone
Not even your shadow's in my sight
And all my heart can think about
Is giving up this fight

With all I have inside I pray and try
To get you back into my life
To feel that I'm a part of you
And stop this pain that's causing all this strife

How much longer do I think I can continue on
Pretending nothing inside has changed

Then I recall all the promises in your Word
That will fill up this empty space
And they are enough to fill my empty air
And all my tears erase

There are no windows and no doors
Here inside this place
There's no way in and no way out
So nothing is misplaced

What's inside you'll never see
As you cannot look in
But does it matter anyway
As it can't leave again

From this place you may not leave
As there is no way out
But have no fear in coming here
To get in, there is no route

Stand outside and strain your eyes
Trying to see what's here
Or walk away while you can
Before the way in or out appears

Deep inside my mind
I hear a still small voice
It speaks to my heart of things
Of which I have a choice

It is the voice I hear
When I think of what
I should or shouldn’t do
The voice of reason telling me
That to myself
I always, must be true

This still small voice I hear
When in anger
I wish to respond
It reminds me to be oh so still
And keeps me from the things
Of which I am not fond

That same small voice it speaks to me
When I am pressed for time
It tells me to listen patiently
To try to never be unkind
Be it friend or stranger
It makes no never-mind

If I should ever wake and find
That my still small voice
Has left my mind
That my heart has hardened
And grown so cold
I pray that I will be so ever bold
And that I will search to the end of time
Until my still small voice
Again I find

If a life can be suddenly shattered
And dreams can be broken in two
What joy can one find in knowing
It could all at once
Be taken from you

In an instant a heart
That is trusting and true
Can be hardened and made bitter
With grief
Love, no longer able, to give or receive
Pain has taken all hope
Like a thief

If we are given all knowledge
Of what our futures will hold
Would life be the journey
Of continuous wonder
That in each new day
We behold.

If given the choice of knowing
How each of my days will unfold
Or living each day as it comes
New, unchartered and bold
I would send my heart out there
To be broken
Shattered or torn
And chance having my dreams
Taken away

I would choose to go forth blindly
And take each day as it comes
Accepting the good and the bad
For if one never takes chances
To risk feeling heartache and pain
What kind of happiness
Could they ever attain?

Chasing after love
