In marriage,
Should be like a bricks in
the brick wall,
Each strengthening the other.

Lift the veil from a grayscale morning. Vividly imagistic. An odalisque no more.

Her shape beneath the gown is a foreign land, a series of quiet revelations. Its pattern manifests as pinpricks of light perforating the shirred fabric of his heart.

The preponderance of dream in her eyes becomes a call and response evoking purely imaginary spaces. The contained chemistry is beautifully insular, monochromatic.

And there her lips. Into claustrophobic kiss. This lower register of love comes in unadorned, subtle colorings like the darkest part of night.

One thousand shades of gray.
One single light of white.
And everything merges in the night.

When he gives me that look
He has me instantly
Hooked on his pulling power
In the embrace of his enchanting handsomeness
Claims and enflames my frame

Tames me with unrestrained flame
Excites my senses, melts my defenses
Gives me a loving, lingering kiss
Clenches every inch of me
Sweeps me off my feet

Conquers my existence
Breathe in his tantalizingly
Delicious fragrance
Drink in his valiant manliness
His machoness is
Far too attractive

Immaculately groomed
So smooth and splashy
So groovy and soothing
I carry a torch for him
Dream of him, get lost in him

He consumes me like no other
Stops me dead in my tracks
Captures my breath
Leaves me in awe when I marvel
At his fantastic masculine art

His beauty is beyond description
He is a spectacular mantuary
Of incomparable perfection
A glorious morning sun
A mountain of charm
That has me walking on air

the first snow so warm wonder
is whirling in our living hands
seconds can be windows
they can feel a kind of truth
an impossible simultaneity
of tears and laughter,
a peacefulness as deep as the roots.

let me circle around your mystery
give me one more second
to smile back at you

I sit here on
my 57th birthday
and listen to
Mozart in G minor.
I'm at peace, finally.
Gone are the
grass stains and
scabbed up knees.
I don't climb
trees anymore, but I
do see them.
The brilliant orange
and yellow leaves,
all cracked and happy.
I can smell pumpkin spice,
and hope smells like
a coffee crescendo.
I had fish for dinner.
It's never too late to
start eating healthy.
Life is a symphony.

A canary flew
in my
window and sat at
my desk with
me.
It said,
who are you?
I replied,
I'm a base
poet that's been
dropped on
his head by life
a few times.
Eyes like a
kicked dog, and a
beard that doesn't
grow straight.

It chirped like
a Bach concerto, and
said,
ah yes, we are
all just dead
birds at the
bottom of a cage, tiny
lice crawling through
our eyes.
No song.
No light.

I said,
you're a strange
little fellow.
And we sat there,
like that, waiting
for 6:00 am
so, I could make
a beer run.
