If You're Asking Me
Mike Hauser Dec 2017
This I know for sure
That there ain't no cure
But to run out of men
When it comes to fighting wars

If you're asking me
There ain't no mistaking
To fight our way out of this
We need to stop misbehaving

Can't we come together
And do ourselves some talking
Try on another mans shoes
Get to some serious walking

If you're asking me
Our world leaders are acting childish
Put them all in time out
Before they go and **** us

If we don't do it soon
I'm afraid they'll drop the big one
Blow us to the Moon
Even taking along the innocent

If you're asking me
The world is still worth saving
Though the river mostly flows
At this time it's coagulating

We fight our wars for peace
Who's crazy idea is that
How can this we achieve
If you're asking me

another chance
Mike Hauser Dec 2017
each new morning
brings to light
another chance
to get it right
another day
to go for it
another chance
to try again
another way
to put in place
a welcomed dose
much needed grace
another chance
for you to find
a better way
in which to chime
before this day
draws to an end
another chance
to begin again
as each new morning
brings to light
another chance
to get it right

My Name
Mike Hauser Dec 2017
One thing in life
That is totally mine
Above everything else is my name

Passed down to me
By my family
Where generations have all had their say

It's been quite the mix
Of both women and men
Some voices still speak from the grave

I'll stand up and fight
For all that is right
Above everything else is my name

This name I own it
Shined bright or tarnished
It's all in how I do my day

This name that I hold
Try and treat it like gold
In this world of come what ever may

Because it's not only mine
My family's also entwined
As they at their best have done the same

Through word and through deed
It's also up to me
Above everything else is my name
Tried making this plural but couldn't get it to rhyme right.

Spokes in this Wheel
Mike Hauser Dec 2017
How many times in life
Have you thought, what about me
Looking for a place to find
A spot to fill a need

Hoping for a sign
Any way to deal
Soon enough will come to light
As we're all spokes in this wheel

One works with another
Holding each other in place
In the spinning of life
In this running of race

With your saying what can I do
I'm telling you, you are a big deal
Life would wobble if it wasn't for you
As we're all spokes in this wheel

You help keep it turning
With a yearning to your wonder of why
Continually in the searching
Up till the day that you die

Now that you know your purpose
It being that you're here to help
Makes it all very worth it
As we're all spokes in this wheel
Mike Hauser Dec 2017
I met a man in a playful tune
Who had a thought I thought I knew
He said to me goo goo g'joob
Does anything sound more real to you

We were out standing in a field
With fresh strawberries dancing at our heels
In a moment a bit to surreal
Continue on Bungalow Bill

We moved past a four man line
As we slipped into dream #9
Being there for the benefit of Mr. Kite
When Lucy and her diamonds fell from the sky

A day in the life left tragically
Our mystery tour on a yellow submarine
The revolution of love has now left the building
In a puddle of memories out on the street

She held your hand to comfort you
The color of love now the color of blue
Till the bitter end you sang passion true
Goodbye to you Goo goo g'joob...

~Words~
Mike Hauser Dec 2017
Words once spoken
Can't be broken
Too late you find the damage done

Either uplifting
Or unforgiving
Words are best spoken in love

Can't take them back
Once they've left your lips
From the tongue speaks the heart

Rue the day
They've had their say
Truthfully in who you are

Best be thinking
Before speaking
Avoiding pain from what's been heard

Horses take bits
Rudders turn ships
Be careful how you steer your words

Lucky Stars
Mike Hauser Dec 2017
When we first met
I felt the stars align
So I placed my bet
That day you would be mine

I took your hand
Leading you across the sky
Over sea and land
Into our special time

It can be said
That I am yours and you are mine
Where I owe a debt
To those stars when they aligned

The Mess
Mike Hauser Dec 2017
I've made a mess of this life
Didn't even have to think twice
When I did what I did since I was a kid
And I'll do what I do till they shut the lid

I've made a mess of the things
That a mess of a life always brings
From the beginning of it I've shot from the hip
As I'll continue to do till my heart up and quits

I've made a mess of it all
And I'm sure I'll do quite a bit more
When I tend to feed on it all selfishly
You're welcome at my table but please keep your seat

I've made a mess of this life
Do you even need to question why
When my main goal in life is all about me
It's hard to deny and easy to see

I've made a mess of this life

(poetry) i may never know
Mike Hauser Dec 2017
i wonder if i ever
let go of this pen
and no longer gave
the words
their say

would that freedom
reshape the man i am
would i rue the day
that poetry
doesn't have a hold of me

the very thought
makes me afraid
it would be like
letting go the hand
of my closest friend

that always gets her way
yet...
there seems to be
comfort in her cancer
pleasure in her pain

am i truly looking for
an answer
would i listen
anyway
to the contemplate

of the letting go
this hungry pen
i tightly grip
a hold
my lover and my friend

i at times like
and love
and loath
is something
i may never know
Visiting old poetry re-writing and re-shaping.

YOU'RE OLD...
Mike Hauser Dec 2017
most of us don't think to know
or ever plan on getting old
in youthful folly what's the need
out living life wild and free

BEFORE YOU KNOW
YOU'RE OLD...

i don't think it coincidence
that when we're young we make a mess
never thinking too far ahead
then here we are with no time left

BEFORE YOU KNOW
YOU'RE OLD...

with youthful vigor out the door
no time to loose as you loose score
used to be good at the game
now with no idea where you're shoes are laid

BEFORE YOU KNOW
YOU'RE OLD...

you sit and wonder where it went
overweight with a mind that slips
all held together with Poligrip
you sit and wonder where it went
or did you already say that

BEFORE YOU KNOW
YOU'RE OLD...

no if, ands, or buts
Mike Hauser Dec 2017
no if, ands, or buts
when it comes to love
always room for more
with never enough

fill the cracks in-between
a job that's never done
from the out to the inseam
cemented in love

cause when it comes to love
feel free to look it up
there's never enough
no if, ands, or buts

Where's Your Focus
Mike Hauser Dec 2017
We will never understand the reason
If we only focus on this life
Or the purpose of God and the plans that he's got
For the good of all mankind

If we only see daily mounting troubles
And not the Glory that's soon to come
That God set aside when his son came to die
Offering that free gift to everyone

While some gladly take, others seal their own fate
Judging themselves apart from God's Love
Setting all of the blame on the God who loves them
Thinking they know when they clearly don't

In speaking those words they just add to the curse
An eternity of Hell fire and brimstone
Because somehow they think for them to believe
They first must give everything up

No way could they know the treasures bestowed
For those who die to themselves
Giving all that they have to what forever lasts
Forsaking everything else

We never will understand the reason
If we only focus on today
Instead of what's to come in the heavenly relm
While what we have here quickly passes away

Days of our Lives
Mike Hauser Dec 2017
These are the days of our lives

In the memories we make
Some come as a surprise
Others for granted we take
Moments that we can laugh
Sharing times that we cry
Mixing haves and not haves

These are the days of our lives

Where you could either be free
Or fall under the curse
Look around at the needs
Life could be a lot worse
Having more than enough
Or barely getting by
Either way raise your cup

These are the days of our lives

Pee is for Prostate
Mike Hauser Dec 2017
*** is certainly for prostrate
As my bladder keeps busting a move
Where the places I go, first thing I want to know
Kindly where is the loo

As the older I get, the more that I fret
I'll never make it in time
With my back to the wall as nature calls
Informing me I best get in line

Every place that I go hoping the river flows
But most of the time it's only a stream
Where I find that I stand in front of a dam
Keeping me from my goal to ***

With the constant urge for all that I'm worth
A prime candidate for adult diapers
The older I get the more of a mess
I just hope I die before they hire a wiper

With the daily chore going from door to door
Finding relief whatever it takes
I'm reminded again every time I'm in the can
*** is certainly for prostrate
Did he seriously just write a poem on his prostrate?! Have you no shame!

Peter Panish
Mike Hauser Dec 2017
I've been watching
Peter Pan
I think the man
Had quite the plan
If he could
I know I can
Find my way
To Neverland

The only difference
Between him and me
Is I won't have
A following
I'll be alone
Foot loose and free
Staying young
Gracefully

Hanging onto
What I've got
When more is less
Less is a lot
Cross the t's
Add i dots
Growing old
Can be a crock

So I'll stay young
Long as I can
High on fun
Low in demand
Blow out the candles
Strike up the Band
Cause I've been watching
Peter Pan

How Can We
Mike Hauser Dec 2017
How could I ever be me
If I don't take some sort of lead
Try being myself
Instead of somebody else
If I don't see the need
To be who I'm supposed to be
Stay true to this thought
Not something I'm not
If I never feel free
How can I ever be me

How could you ever be you
If you only do what others do
Or you don't find the time
To do what feels right
Don't have a say
In the way you play days
If you're never once moved
To stand up for the truth
If this you don't do
How can you ever be you

How could we ever be us
If we don't do it all out of love
Don't try the best that we can
On our promises kept
If we don't take the time
To live out this life
Give an answer to it all
To stand and not fall
When the time comes
How can we ever be us

Come To Think Of It
Mike Hauser Nov 2017
Just when you think
You've seen it all
Hold on tight
Cause here's comes more

Just when you think
It can't get worse, well
This is just
The rehearsal

Just when you think
You've got a clue
They pull the rug
From under you

Cause crazy is
As crazy does
It's a crazy world these days
Just because...

Just when you think
You've had enough
Raise your glass
And fill it up

Just when you think
You can't go on
With sanity
No longer home

Just when you think
This is the end
You might want to
Think again

Cause crazy is
As crazy does
It's a crazy world these days
Just because...

The Christmas Tree
Mike Hauser Nov 2017
Wait a minute, is it already Christmas again
Seems I just took down the lights and the tree
Is there no rest for the downtrodden and weary
This season sometimes takes the Merry Gentleman out of me

So I load up the sleigh with the dog and the kids
The old beat up station wagon I drive
On the hunt for this years perfect tree
We'll be lucky if we make it back home alive

As we jingle all the way to the local tree farm
Six kids and a dog singing at the top of their lungs
With only twelve days left before Christmas
My **, **, **, is already long gone

Picking the best tree out within our budget
My wife says Charlie Brown would be proud
I ask smarty pants Mrs. Santa what she meant by that
She'd rather not say with the little elves around

Before an argument even ensues
I've lost the battle before I hit the front line
You wonder how I'm so confident of that
The same thing happened last year at this time

As I struggle to get the tree off the roof of my jalopy
While Jack the dog in the frost is nipping at my toes
I fall to the ground with visions of sugar plums dancing in my head
Waking up to the dogs frozen tongue stuck up my nose

Finally with the tree set up in the front parlor
I notice it leans bad to one side
Taking my chainsaw to alleviate the problem
The gas fumes **** my kids parakeet out right

With Hobby Lobby open late for the holidays
I was able to purchase the product I need
Working late into the wee morning hours
I did a good job shellacking the parakeet

I'm not sure that my kids even noticed
Or brought up the question what for
But they sure like the shinny new ornament
Hanging next to the hamster that disappeared the year before

Well, I survived another preparing for Christmas
As subconsciously I'm being led
To wrap myself in last years present "The Snuggie"
And dream of those sugar plums dancing in my head

A Tale Of 2 Different Kings
Mike Hauser Nov 2017
Carved David out of marble
What else could Michel do
Searching for an angle
Immortalizing you

Did the same with Elvis
He too was a king
We put him in velvet
David in a museum

Where we keep him under guard
For all the world to see
Take all the pictures that you like
But no autographs if you please

Elvis on a pedestal
Amid the screams and crys
Kept his fame though lost his way
Where alone he died

David fiddled around with sling shots
Elvis sang and played guitar
One relaxed on roof tops
The other bought people cars

These are different days
Those were different times
Both of these men caved
To sin in their lives

Man can succumb to pressure
When given everything
A show of pain and pleasure
A tale of 2 different kings

If I live To See Tomorrow
Mike Hauser Nov 2017
With each day that fly's away
Closer to the end
As each day throws this my way
You can begin again

It all must serve a purpose
In this crazy thing called life
I've heard it will be worth it
If I make it to the day I die

If I live to see tomorrow
Will I have done all I wanted to
If I live to see tomorrow
Will I have learned a thing or two

Model, Make, set in place
Rusty though I seem
What I find inside my mind
Is youth still clings to me

With shades of gray on display
It's no surprise to me
That the hand of death in my hand rests
Soon enough to set me free

If I live to see tomorrow
Will I think it's come too soon
If I live to see tomorrow
Will I have done all I intended to

Your Cadillac
Mike Hauser Nov 2017
If I were your Cadillac
I'd offer you a ride
Tool around town, you safe and sound
Elvis by your side

I'd let you pick the color
Whatever you prefer
If you think I look good in pink
I'll do that for you girl

I'd make sure I was four door
To give you the leg room
For your entertainment pleasure
I'd have Elvis sing for you

And if you're in a hurry
I'll run all the red lights
But for safety sake I'll look both ways
First the left then right

Want you to see you can count on me
If I were your Cadillac
I'd hit the road wherever you need to go
With you and Elvis in the back

My Bio
Mike Hauser Nov 2017
Mike enjoys long walks in the park sometimes skipping behind the small furry woodland creatures.
Capturing butterflies with soft cotton gloves, painting smiley faces on their wings then setting them free.
He also enjoys writing poetry in the **** underneath the moonlight.

Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!
What are you taking about?!
I don't do any of those things!!

I'm trying to make you sound more sensitive...

Sensitive?!
And what's this talking in the 3rd person?

I thought that's what poets did...

Maybe if they're insane!!
And why am I talking to myself?

I thought poets did that too...

The people that read this are going to think I'm crazy.

You're telling me...
I realized half my bio was cut off when the web site went through changes a few months back but have been too lazy to write a new one.
Guess I should change it but for prosperities sake here's my old one before it disappears in the rubble

God's Word
Mike Hauser Nov 2017
Why do some find God's Word so offensive
When all that it speaks of is love
Something I see this fallen world needs
A place where there is never enough

Why do some take God's Word for granted
With the idea it's alright to sin
Like it's a free pass doing all the wrong that they can
After all God will forgive

Why do some hear God's Word but don't listen
Whether in the pew or out on the streets
They are either chained by Satan or religion
It's only the Word that can set you free

Why do some bring God's word up when confronted
Saying who appointed you as my judge
The only Scripture they know when it comes to blows
Is Matthew 7:1

Why do you find God's Word so offensive
Is it because Satan has a hold of your heart
You might think that you're fine but in truth you're blind
If you don't take God at His Word

Dreams & Wishes
Mike Hauser Nov 2017
I keep my dreams and wishes
Inside a paper sack
While some I feel are full course meals
Others are only simple snacks

I keep them seperated
With soft white cotton twine
Although it's true you can mix the two
It's still good to hold them both tight

I find dreams are much like wishes
They both can look the same
While of the two dreams you cling to
Wishes at times you give away

~Black Friday~
Mike Hauser Nov 2017
With the turkey out of the way
It's time to do some shop and save
Black Friday...here we go again

I am up at three o'clock
So I'll be at the door on the dot
Shopping like a mad whirlwind

Pulling up to Walmart
Grab myself a fresh shopping cart
For when the doors open up at five

Like a horse out of the gate
Your own fault for being in my way
Just count your blessings that your still alive

Beat the crowds straight to the back
For a little ****** and grab
Gotta have the newest wide screen T.V.

Blue hair had my T.V. in her cart
Took her out with a karate chop
Sorry granny it's either you or me

Next set my sights on this kid
With no clue of what he did
Or how he ended splayed out on the floor

In the remote car shopping isle
And it may take that kid awhile
To remember who, what, when, or what for

I next wildly veer off to the right
For that set of Ginsu knives
That I use to hold back the forming crowd

With it being the only set left
I Samurai it over my head
Which  quickly clears out the entire Ginsu isle

With my shopping about done
I sweep shelves into my cart on the run
Figure I can sort it all out later

At times it's hard to pick and choose
With the attitude of I hate to lose
Anyways I figure they owe me for all my labor

When I get to the front of the store
There's bookoo bunches of crowds galore
I've never seen such a long drawn out line

So I clear the path in front of me
Taking people off at the knees
They'll surely think twice the next time

Before getting in my way
And my day of shop and save
Already planning for next year my friend

Satisfied I head for the door
But I tell you not before
I turn and say Happy Holidays and Good Will Towards Men!
Cause that's just the way I am...

To have her to hold her
Mike Hauser Nov 2017
I still remember
The first time I saw her
One way or another
I'd always love her

And I'm thinking that day
She felt the same way
Cause when the time came
She took my name

Some days are warmer
Others are colder
Younger and older
To have her to hold her

With one life to live
Making the best of it
The promise we've kept
To never quit

Moving through life
Burdens heavy or light
Always side by side
Holding tight with our mights

This I have known
With her as my home
To never let go
To have and to hold

The right place and right time
The best of all finds
Stepped into the light
No changing of minds

From all that I've seen
To all that I need
Inside of my dreams
She's the one I keep

There's no need to wonder
About distant thunder
As she draws me closer
To have her to hold her

Mike Hauser Nov 2017
A sudden shiver from her cold shoulder
About feels like it's Christmas time
Yet no presents will be given
This Winter in July

With her mood I should be sweating
Not the fact it's 95
Will I ever learn my lesson
This Winter in July

With cold chills from the icicles
Coming from her piercing eyes
Bundle up for this cold month
This Winter in July

A cold heart is in the forecast
Her weather map does not tell lies
In the relationship where I am staying
This Winter in July

I thought by now I would adapt
This freezing chill being the high
How many days are there left

Thanksgiving Day Buffet
Mike Hauser Nov 2017
We tried something different this year
A Thanksgiving day buffet
I really like the leftovers though
So I lined my pockets with cellophane

To justify my actions
As I stood in line
With the twenty bucks I was paying
Would a little take out be such a crime

Being a master of illusion
I pointed and said is that Santa Claus
While everyone was looking
I filled my back pockets with cranberry sauce

Things were running rather smoothly
As we moved along
I was stuffing everything from giblets to gravy down my drawers
As if there was nothing wrong

With tomorrows lunch now in my pockets
I went back to the table to dine
Forgetting the cranberry sauce in my rear as I sat
I squirted the lady behind me in the eye

Her husband jumped quickly into action
He was a mountain of a man
We'll just call him Everest
I didn't have time to catch his name

He picked me up and started shaking
That's when my stuffing's came flying out
Tomorrows meal went everywhere
Splattering the entire dining crowed

There was quite a ruckus
As we chased around the restaurant
It's going to be hard to get my leftovers back
Now that I've lost my air of nonchalant

As we were knocking over tables
I got the idea to grab peoples plates
Not wanting to be a spoiler of the holidays
Out the door I hollered back

Have a Happy Thanksgiving Day!
You'll be happy to know this is my last Thanksgiving poem...Now it's time to add some crazy to Christmas! Yay!

Insomnia
Mike Hauser Nov 2017
There's a battle that most folk will fight
When old age slips onto the pavement
It's weapon of choice you will find
Is that of sleep deprivation

You lie awake in the middle of night
Tossing and turning on the edge of your dreams
Insomnia its battle cry
As your white flag is torn apart at the seams

With your mind like a kite in the night breeze
Flying this way and that with your lack of sleep
Too far behind the enemy lines
To even find the help that you need

While you'd love to sneak back over the border
Into the comfort of a soft feather bed
One good nights sleep is what the Commandant's ordered
So as to rest your weary head

Still the battle rages on nightly
The enemy both sneaky and sly
In whose grip you will stay as you lay awake
With insomnia as its battle cry

with a world in doubt

we watched Camelot
suddenly pass away
on the harsh streets of Dallas
54 years ago today

as the 60's arrived
newly on the scene
hello nightmare
goodbye american dream

on that fateful day
it all fell apart
shot a hole in our souls
left a hole in our hearts

when on that grassy knoll
shots rang out
which left a world in fear
to a world in doubt

Her Soft Tenderness
Mike Hauser Nov 2017
Her soft tenderness
Can be ******* a man
When he's used to bricks
Mortar and sand

It'll shake the foundation
Built with his hands
Leave a man aching
For all that she has

She can tear down the walls
Erecting his years
Where he once had a cause
Now tossing his cares

Knows that it's true
Without a word being said
Her soft tenderness
Can be ******* a man

She can catch him mid-stream
Have him change his mind
Make him want to leave
All he's built behind

Pulls him to shore
Beached in her warm sand
Her soft tenderness
Can be ******* a man

The Man I Was
Mike Hauser Nov 2017
You might have heard the stories
Of the way I was before
But like I've said that man I left
Many years ago

Although at times I still can find
He rears his ugly head
The part of me that needs to be free
Wishes he was dead

But he does serve a purpose
A reminder so it seems
Not to get over confident
With the place that I'm now in

Feeling as though I'm in control
Of most decisions that I make
For as hard as it was to get this far
It can be easily taken away

So like I said I'm not the man
That I used to be
But still I know to stay on my toes
Because he's always watching me

Tofurkey
Mike Hauser Nov 2017
After all these many carnivore years
You can call it guilt or you can call it fear
I've made up my mind to decide
I'm going vegan this November time

So I broke down hard and read some books
Heard some tapes on what it took
From veggies steamed to veggies raw
From beans of green to yellow squash

As my nightly dreams were all filled with meat
I pushed back hard with collard greens
But still had no clue of what to do
With a turkey substitute

And that is when a friend came in
Who Tofu's the line at turkey time
So I read more books and heard more tapes
On Tofu fried, boiled, broiled, and baked

Opening up my kitchen to fine cuisine
Minus the best part...that being meat
As I promised myself I can make this work
My Tofurkey  would be the finest in edible art

I had bought  my Tofu by the pound
Lucky for me it is pliable
As I stretched and pulled and pulled and stretched
Until I had something that looked like a head

With my artistic abilities seriously in doubt
I'm pretty sure what I conjured was the head of a cow
So I pulled and stretched and stretched and pulled
No ones going to call me an abstract fool

As I bring to boil the "Rodin" juices in me
And baste at my skills repeatedly
Where I come up with a turkey, giblets and all
And just for good measure I gobble a turkey call

Of course cooking the thing is another road and
I sadly lost Tofurkey 1, 2, and 3 in the explosion
When 4 hit the score I invited my friends
Whose friendship with them will take time to mend

Just because a turkey looks like a turkey, don't mean that it is
I'm now learning all this while I clean up the mess
As forks went to the mouths at the very same time
So did the retching along with the crying

But in a month they'll forget this entire sordid ordeal
When they get the invites for my Christmas holiday meal
With my time in the books and tapes I will spend
Looking forward to  Christmas and a delicious soy bean ham

~Blessings~
Mike Hauser Nov 2017
When you see there's nothing left
May you still do what is right
And not focus on yourself
But on what others might

May pure be your du jour
In all you hope to find
And love the only cure
On which you spend your time

May your cup always be full
As you're sipping from your dreams
And your highs never run low
In the promises life keeps

May the sun come out and shine
On your dreariest of days
And blessings always find
The place your head is laid

I pray you always feel at home
Wherever you may go
And all the joy you find
Never leaves you alone

May you always have a smile
One that really counts
Showing off your beauty
From the inside out

May this all apply to you
Be it old or be it new
And may these blessings always hold you tight
In what ever you go through

Could You?
Mike Hauser Nov 2017
Could you ever learn to love again
With all the heartbreak in-between
Learn again to have faith in men
With all they've done and all you've seen

Could you ever learn to trust again
When you've heard your share of lies
Bring yourself to forgive
Let the anger inside you die

Could you ever learn to smile again
And in time not think twice
When your mind comes to rest on men
Whether past or present in this life

Could you ever learn to love again
Ever learn to trust again
Learn to smile inside again
When it comes to men

Could you?
I wrote this for a friend that has had her share of the wrong men in her life...

~Silent Movie~
Mike Hauser Nov 2017
Sitting in a silent movie
Intently staring at the screen
If you watch them closely
You hear exactly what they mean

With moves ever colorful
In this world of black and white
Before intermission
The leading lady breaks down and cries

The leading man had a hand in it
You can read it in the signs
It's really no surprise
It's all right there in black and white

Thaw and Tenderize
Mike Hauser Nov 2017
I just bought a turkey
In dire need of tenderize
Also a quick summer thaw
As this chick's as cold as ice

Must have froze it in the tundra as
I dive deep into the internet
Where it's got me wondering
Why I myself didn't think of this

It says to tie up both it's legs
With a nylon stringy thingy
Hey! Get that out your head!
This ain't nothing *****!

Hook the turkey to the bumper
And take it for a ride
I watched it from my rear view
And mirror on the side

I watched it twirl and tumble
I watched it twist and shout
I watched it as it changed its shape
From inside into out

I thought I heard it gobble
As it bounced itself along
Checking progress at every red light
Tenderized...yes, but not yet thawed

The roads must be colder this year
Than at first I thought
I hop back into my jalopy
For a few more jaunts around the block

I make it back to my place
Thinking all is perfect all is well
Untie the turkey, if that's what it is
It's a little hard to tell

Now with that part of the preparation done
With the turkey and I safe back home
I plop it into the waiting oven
And gently turn it on

Here we are a few hours later
As the conversations and good times begin
Sitting around the dinner table
My guests all marvel at my hen

There's only one slight question
And they asked me if I knew
I reply...why yes that is white meat
It's just a tad bit bruised
Apparently I've turned my holiday poems into a yearly event.

Control Center
Mike Hauser Nov 2017
How much more can we allow
They soon enough may find us out

The stories that we often paint
Into the publics crazed mind frame

A sliver of the truth we need
To keep the lies within belief

We'll tell them what they need to hear
To keep them on the edge of fear

Where we've found out but they don't know
Works very well with mind control

To let them think on darkened days
They need us here to keep them safe

Well tell them all how they should vote
Give them drugs to help them cope

And with the ones that don't comply
We'll take a knife to their lives and spread the lies

We'll keep them tight in a glass jar
Like the bugs we know they are

It's all about what they don't know
That helps us keep them in control

More or less
Mike Hauser Nov 2017
how many years
does it take to see
the More you have
the less you're free
the other way around
is what you'd think it'd be
the More you have
the less you need
but what you need
isn't always what you have
as we all could do
with a little less
and the less you have
the More you know
it's easier
to let it go

...and when you find that
the less that you'll want
Mike Hauser Nov 2017
I spent my early life
Looking out from behind
The chain link fence on the turkey farm

There they fed me right
Fattened up my thighs
After all, what could be the harm

If it was up to me
I would never leave
It's where I prefer to spend my years

But alas will come the day
When all good turkey's have to say
Arrivederci...I am outta here

I was born to be a Butter Ball
Unlike those sloppy pigs that live next door
To be a tender turkey is my call
And all you want to do is eat me
          Yes, you wanna eat me

They just took Turkey Jack
To the shed out back
Where we never heard from him again

Just like yesterday
With my friend Turkey Dave
Strange they haven't messed with Turkey Slim

Am I the next in line
Could this here be my time
My head placed on the chopping block

As I say my goodbyes
To all the gals and guys
I gobble to Mary Lou as an after thought

I was born to be a Butter Ball
So delicious they're coming back for more
          Tenderized to the very core
All they want to do is eat me

I was born to be a Butter Ball
A slap in the face to the Honey Ham
To be a tinder turkey is my call
Heavy on the gravy with a side of yams

Now that you know my tale
I hope I told it well
Enjoy this day with your family and your friends

So remember then
Don't leave the stuffing in
And dinner will go the way that it was planned

I was born to be a Butter Ball
The highest honor of them all
Into the open oven I must fall
Cause all you want to do is eat me
Yes, all you wanna do is eat me
The votes are in and have been tallied! Who am I to go against the will of the people. Back for another go round!
If you don't remember the tune, YouTube is a wonderful place to either find your mind or lose it!

Lydia Loves The Lord
Mike Hauser Nov 2017
Lydia loves the Lord...

Sees no reason not
Takes him at his word
Through battles being fought
The Spirit in her testifies
The God of Love
Is the giver of life
And that is why

Lydia loves the Lord...

Still sometimes she's afraid
Of the world that's just outside
And what it would make her give away
People speak in whispers
But she won't answer in kind
To make it through this life
And that is why

Lydia loves the Lord...

Knows it's worth the fight
Wise beyond her years
Beauty holds her tight
In and out is clear
A blessing she is here
As clear as day and night
And that is why

Lydia loves the Lord...
A beautiful soul I met on this site and am proud to call her friend.

Love Hate Relationship
Mike Hauser Nov 2017
There's a love hate relationship
Between you and alcohol
You love the feeling you get from it
But hate the day of constant calls

It's become a daily battle
This long drawn out desire
When you say no way will I drink today
And again it makes you out the liar

It all started out so simple
Having social drinks with friends
Where the only time you drew that line
Would be on the weekends

But stress comes along in many forms
As you find sips take off the edge
Soon enough though it won't leave you alone
A little secret the bottle seems to have kept

And this battle you are fighting
Some days afraid that you might win
Where there is no denying
Deep down inside you'll miss your friend

Where there's a love hate relationship
Between you and alcohol
You love the feeling you get from it
But hate the way it too often calls
I've been sober 27 years this month (where does the time go!) my hope and prayer is that one of you today will take that step to freedom...

Passing Through
Mike Hauser Nov 2017
Let me lay this truth on you
We're all just passing through
From one point to another
Here today gone tomorrow

This is not real life
It's just a blink of the eye
When held up to eternity
Compared to it side by side

There are two roads you can choose
In your time of passing through
You can take the high that leads to life
Or the low ride if you half a mind

If you think this life is long
Wait till you see the one to come
It's hard to comprehend
Forever and then some

You either win or you lose
In this life we're passing through
There is no in-between
When it comes to eternity

How Many Loves
Mike Hauser Nov 2017
How many loves
Must you pass through
Till you find the one
That's made for you
As you stir the ***
Taste a few
Find they're not
The right mix of stew
How many loves
Must you pass through

How many loves
Must you pass through
Before your heart
Gets a clue
Beating in rhythm
Of more than just you
In the hope that it's given
The one that's true
How many loves
Must you pass through

How many loves
Must you pass through
Till the one that you meet
Is a powerful glue
That sticks perfectly
To the best part of you
Holding on tight
Not shaking loose
How many loves
Must you pass through

What If You...
Mike Hauser Nov 2017
What if you...
Only loved those that love you
How would they know
If that love was true
Would it change a thing
Would it bring meaning
If you loved those you knew
That only loved you

What if you...
Never once compromised
Saw life through others eyes
Saw the other person's side
If you only did your thing
With no concern for another being
What would you find
If you never compromised

What if you...
Never took the hard road
But always the easy way
With the lightest load
Would it strengthen you
Would your step be true
If you never took the road
Hardest to get through

What if you...
Only saw the past
Never dreamed of what's ahead
Only dream of what you left
Would you be stuck
In the place you are
Never getting far
If the past was in your heart

What if you...
Only took the winning side
Would you learn lessons in this life
If it was nothing but a free ride
If no lessons were ever taught
If a battle you never lost
I wonder what you'd find
If you only took the winning side

The turkey's on
Old man Johnson's farm
All wised up this year

Logging on
To Amazon
About mid November

With Halloween out of the way
They were bound to save
On the items they would need

Which worked out great
Cause all they could afford to pay
Was in scratched up chicken feed

The pigs helped in
The ordering
As it's a well known fact

That being turkey's
They're always in a hurry
And ain't nobody got time for that

They saved up extra seed
For quick delivery
When you're on the cliffs edge dancing

Coming down to it
This being life or death
There's no need to take chances

In the nick of time
The package arrived
On the day required

The fateful day
Known to our hero's as shake and bake
November 23rd

On that morning when
Old man Johnson then
With ax in hand stepped outside

Where he tried to think
Had he ever seen
So many cows in his life

In between the moo's
He heard a gobble or two
Which in itself is very strange

Plus the Amazon bill
For umpteenth costume cows
He just can't quite explain
