If you're in need of a thorn
I'm looking for a side
Like a Tic in days forlorn
Always trying to hitch a ride

The noisy Rat that's in your attic
I just won't go away
Deaf a dumb from day one
There's not much more that you can say

Dug in deep this blood ******* leach
Clinging to your hide
Feel free to call me your ***** laundry
With the world to see, hanging out to dry

Ring worm on a mission
I burrow underneath your skin
Fingernails on a blackboard, listen
Here to make you cringe

I stick to you like poo on a shoe
As you hobble along your way
There's not a lot that you can do
To tell the truth I'm here to stay

Living life like a parasite
Looking for that slight opening
This disturbing sight may not feel quite right
But I count it all as a win

...with you as my new girlfriend ❤️‍🩹
He's always available ladies 🤪

End of the Show
I can’t help but wonder
How death will go down
In a fiery fan of flames
Or slow trickle burnout

Will I lay round for days
In a comatose state
Or with bags quickly packed
Leave right away

Will my life in a flash
In its final brain bend
Relive all my days
From beginning to end

Or me skipping along
Minding my business
When my heart says hold on
I’ve no longer got this

Will it be more of a plop
Than a final bow
The day that I drop
Will this tree make a sound

You never do know
When or where you will go
Until death catches up
And it’s the end of the show
They told us by now
We'd be in flying cars
Kicking the blues
On the red planet Mars
Never did once came up
That it'd be this hard
To handle the progress of man

We'd see world peace
We were led to believe
All holding hands
Kumbayaing
And yet here we are
Zoning out on phone screens
Dumbfounded by the progress of man

They'd have us healthy
With the popping of pills
Not only for meals
But to cure all our ills
Now highly addicted
Weak in our wills
Disillusioned by the progress of man

They promised we'd live
To a ripened old age
To the edge of it all
If they had their way
But who wants to live
That long in these crazy days
Welcome to the progress of man
life should need no
explanation
for the way that
you're behaving
if you try and
do what's right
you'll live a long
and prosperous life

no excuse's
you'll be making
if a Godly
path is taken
then in kind
you'll see the signs
of a long
and prosperous life

every move
holds the truth in
what you've done and
what you're doing
if you cling tight
to Gods light
you'll find a long
and prosperous life
I see the streets of desperation
Looking on in apathy
I need no further explanation
As I sit at home and watch from my T.V.

I could use a good commercial break
On all the wars and deadly disease
This has to be some sort of mistake
A wrong channel I keep watching

I see in black and white the infighting
Not enough love to go around
I often wonder who does the writing
On these bogus shows I'm watching now

In this lost world of Nielsen ratings
Across this land of the latest crazy
Channel after channel of monsters created
All haunting me from my T.V.

I see the poor children as they go hungry
Channel surfing, gleefully
With stomach growling I'm wondering
What's in my overstuffed fridge for me to eat

I tune into the gaggle of world leaders
Hear the promises they never keep
I see them all as bottom feeders
Still when it comes to my vote they can count on me

With remote in hand, I strike up the band
Oblivious to what surrounds me
I try to make plans but end up yawning instead
Watching life quickly go down in leaps and bounds
all from my T.V.

End of the Spin
The world today
Stopped in mid-spin
Fed up with the shape
Man's put her in

Gone on too long
With his selfishness
Putting a stop to it all
The world thinks is best

From the building up
To the tearing down
The ever persistent
Obnoxious sounds

With no peace at all
In cities or towns
Over hill over dale
In leaps and bounds

From the arguments
That always ensue
The world's had enough
Of me and you

The blue of the streams
Now brown and green
When the world tries to breathe
It comes out a sneeze

Which creates havoc
Throughout the land
From earthquakes to tornadoes
North, South, East, and West

That's why the world today
Stopped in mid-spin
Putting all of this nonsense
To a bitter end

Now all the world does
Is float out in space
Peaceful and relaxing
Without the human race
Earth day came and went and I didn’t get a chance to glue myself to anything in protest for the environment 🤪
here's a little ditty
many find
there's a risk you run
taking other's advice

when telling you
what they would do
the follow through
is up to you

there are those
who know it all
always right
never wrong
take it all
with a grain of salt
pride often comes
before the fall

there's a risk you run
when listening
to those with no
skin in the game

then let loose
with the excuse
of why it didn't
work out for you

coming from those
who know it all
always right
never wrong
take it all
with a grain of salt
pride often comes
before the fall
I hate to break this to you
But I've got some awful news
Seems our parents as we grew up
Weren't telling us the truth

Life is not the party
The older that you get
Adulthood's gonna **** ya
If it hasn't done it yet

Never once was mentioned the fall out
Starting with the hair and teeth
I'm not sure they even would have told us
If they hadn't first lost their memory

Or that the ache
When you first awake
Will be the best
That you feel all day

And what the taxman doesn't take
The undertaker will
That is if you have anything left
After a lifetime of paying bills

Yes, never did they tell us
As we were quickly on our way
That we'd live every waking moment
With some sort of stabbing pain

Or that if and when we make it to the end
We'd lose all our self respect
Having strangers bathe and change us
In our state of drooling mess

I'm sure they thought it funny
Those wild old crazy coots
Keeping age a secret
And us out of the loop

Not sure I could ever forgive them
For all the lying that they did
I guess the only option is
Not to tell our kids...

Shop Till We Drop
Mike Hauser Apr 21
We tend these days to shop
With money we ain’t got
Put it all on credit
Buy the entire lot

Find we're left deeper in debt
Than ever should be allowed
With the time we have left
We'll never dig our broke butts out

Are we really happy
With all the crap we have
I've come to the conclusion of
Don't even try and make me laugh

We all seem to be
On a permanent shopping spree
Accumulating all this debt
Because you see, nothing is free

With the money we ain't got
We'll all shop until we drop
As long as we have credit
We're never going to stop

The Very First Easter
Mike Hauser Apr 20
Early the first Easter
The world went through a change
Starting at the tomb of Jesus
When angels rolled the stone away

Jesus died so you and I
Would forever be set free
Crucified for all mankind
Death where is your sting

Giving us the chance to start again
With him righting all our wrongs
Taking in our daily sin
As far as the day is long

All we need is to believe
The Savior sent for us
To satisfy our greatest need
Thank you, Lord, for your faithfulness

Two thousand years ago
Today we celebrate
The sacrifice of Jesus
On this Easter day

When both Jesus and our hopes were raised

I have a friend that I write quite a few poems with, love talking on the phone going over ideas. She's tried to get on this site but for some reason can't. I've been waiting for her to post what we've written but I guess sadly that will never happen on Hello Poetry. Does anyone ever get a response from Elliot on questions they have?

The Best of Life
Mike Hauser Apr 19
Before it up and runs away
Where there's nothing left to save
Make the best before too late
On what remains of the day

Never give up on the hope
Even if the tide is low
The boat you're in can still be rowed
A struggle that we all have known

Look hard enough you're bound to find
All you need do is try
Reach out while still in mid-flight
And grab ahold the best of life

This life gives us plenty room
To do all that we can do
It's up to you in how you choose
The direction that you move

If you're not careful where it counts
You end up letting yourself down
Before you decide to check out
Take another look around

Guaranteed if you try
There's a lot that you will find
If you reach out in mid-flight
And grab ahold the best of life

Good Friday
Mike Hauser Apr 18
Packed tight into this moment
Silent as a lamb
Before his accusers
Stands the Great I Am

Planned from the beginning
Prophesy foretold
Our ever-giving Savior
Brings us back into the fold

All of this goes against
Satan's evil schemes
To draw mankind away from God's side
To try and thwart our destiny

God's purpose was to suffer
For the sin of all mankind
Take the corruption from, a world come undone
Bringing it back into line

A Friday like no other
The Goodness that it grasps
Who else but the Creator
Could love us like Jesus has

don't look now
Mike Hauser Apr 17
what we have here
is clearly a misunderstanding
when the words were tossed
and where the wrong ones landed
it wasn't my intention
certainly, didn't plan it
the little that we had
took it all for granted

before this movie starts
we're at the intermission
close to crossing hearts
if only we would listen
life is give and take
but few lean on the giving
if i had to guess
there's clearly something missing

ever close to closing in
and already on the outs
shallow in our figuring
what this is all about
no one here will ever win
in this never-ending roundabout
if you're asking me
don't look now, down for the count

my little activist
Mike Hauser Apr 17
we met up in a coffee shop
over iced mocha frappes
that very day, fate showed its face
as we were heading, both the same way

in life and in attitude
taking it straight to the man
showing the world a thing or two
or at least that seems to be the plan

day after day in the city scape
for the latest round of protests
not afraid to have our say
between me and my little activist

meeting weekly for months on end
expressing our feelings over expresso
conspiring in this robber's den
pouring over our latest manifesto

we never know what ought to set us off
the newest injustice coming down the pike
after all who can count the cost
when turning all these wrongs to right

day after day in the city scape
round after round of protests
we've done our share, but nothing much has changed
between me and my little activist

Reason to Smile
Mike Hauser Apr 15
Are you happy when you're with
Happy when without
Happy if you're up on top
Or down for the count

Do you find joy in situations
You find yourself in
Are your moments in the making
Overflowing past the lid

Jubilant at the prospect
Of another sunny day
Still upbeat when you see
There's a better chance of rain

Are you blissful in your thinking
Content with the days display
Exude a good attitude
Merrily along the way

No matter what you go through
Even if it takes awhile
Every move you do is in the attitude
With reason enough to smile
Mike Hauser Apr 13
He still remembers his first love
Often thinks back to the time
Innocent, young, and then some
Continues to run across this old man's mind

Back when High School held them
As they held each other's hands
In their daily druthers, knew it would last forever
Until together they made other plans

One moved North for the Winters
One stayed down South with the sun
Kept in touch till it became too much
Then shared their love with another one

With no regrets from the past
It's something we must all go through
As far as we know no one goes it alone
This part of our growth that sets the mood

To help us remember our first love
As failing minds slide back to the times
Of when innocent, young, and the some
Tends to run across old men's minds

Two of Me
Mike Hauser Apr 12
There are two of me
That struggle through
While one tries to do what's right
The other has no clue
One born out of selfishness
The other, tried and true
If they don't learn to handle this
Both of them will lose
The two of me
Must stand and choose

There are two of me
That battle within
The realm of my consciousness
Unwilling to give in
Both of them feel they're right
In the way they choose to live
Different as day and night
Who do they think they're trying to kid
The two of me
In my midst

There are two of me
One needs to go
Wouldn't hurt my feelings
If it wandered off on its own
Then I'd get back to living
A life filled with dreams of hope
If one of me did the right thing
And kindly let me go
The two of me
That call me home

whistling
Mike Hauser Apr 11
whistling past graveyards
helps to calm the nerves
from the ghosts here to scare
on this, you have my word
they're waiting as their watching
for the latest fool to pass
adding to their numbers
in case this you need to ask
both, entice and invite you
to step through their doom's day gate
it's best if you keep whistling on
along your merry way
when passing by a plot of graves

words
Mike Hauser Apr 9
we use words
to communicate
words of love
just as easily spread hate
words lift us up
when we're feeling down
then bring us down
when we get too proud

words are used
to make a point
hoping we do
when most times we don't
words that have meaning
show our true feelings
that are in keeping
with our daily dealings

we use words
when ordering
food about town
and people around
words we use
when we need to say
come on along
or please go away

words are used
in many forms
inside the box
outside the norm
words
we cannot ignore
what all they do
and what they're used for

Stay in Your Lane
Mike Hauser Apr 9
I don’t think too much about
The times I’ve had and times without
There’s not too much that bothers me
Whether caught or running free

I try and stay within my lane
Hoping you do much the same
Live and let live suits me fine
I’ll watch your toes, you watch mine

It’s best not to overthink
When it comes to China’s tea
What’s that got to do with it
If you don’t start you’ll never quit

Life you’ll find is one long line
Wander in and out from time to time
Only to go no where fast
Unless it’s to our certain death

If you never really care about
What goes up and what comes down
Chances are that you won’t
Find a part that disappoints

an open book
Mike Hauser Apr 8
this poem explains the state i'm in
from humble beginnings to bitter end
haphazardly it might be a bit
but haphazardly is how i live
it's here to show you both my sides
from the heavy to the light
you'll have to wonder how i survive
or at least how i get by
painstakingly i'll add to it
all the crooks and crannies, every stitch
nothing will i dare omit
an open book i'll title it
it'll read just like a comedy
with it's share of tragedy in between
a real page turner for what it is
but that's just how my life is lived
i'll leave nothing out for you to guess
nothing more and nothing less
call the priest i must confess
for some of this they'll have my head
but after all is done and said
an open book i'll title it

Blink
Mike Hauser Apr 7
There are times in your life
Where things seem to go right
Then in the blink of an eye
It all changes over night

That's the thing
That makes it exciting
You never know from one minute
What the next minute brings

You could be on the beach
Enjoying the sunny day
Did I mention the blink
Well, here comes life's tidal wave

Washes you out
Into the deep end my friend
Then in a heartbeat
Back to good times again

You can show up early
Only to be late
Sit in your worry
Never changes a thing

Imagine what can happen
With the right attitude
Pretty much the same
All that we go through

It all depends
On which side you lean
Good or bad happens
In the span of a blink

It shouldn't be about the likes you get
In what you have to say
Or a popularity contest
Where you up and win your share of praise

It should be a bit of wisdom
A tad of take away
A valuable life lesson
One that brings about a change

It shouldn't be about the hits and clicks
That go to make your day
Or the many arguments
Just so you can have your say

Where went the excitement
The camaraderie
Instead of the enticement
Being hell bent on destroying

It shouldn't be the gotcha moment
We all keep looking for
No one really wants it
This ugliness of back and forth

It should be for sharing our lives and times
And of course, cat videos
Can we please get back to playing nice
On the many things we post

hidden friend

I have a friend
who's hidden in
the back of his house
and never comes out
he's afraid
he'll give away
if nothing else
a part of himself
I have this friend
who is convinced
if he does
there won't be enough
to get through
what he needs to
if he decides
to come outside
with doors locked
that's where he'll rot
this friend of mine
who hides inside
the back of his house
with no thought about
what he could do
if he would choose
to come outside
and enjoy the view

bury me
neath the old oak tree
or an open field
if you feel the need
or leave me lay
where you found me
on the day
you bury me

bury me
in a pauper's grave
or a rich man's plot
on any given day
either way
would be okay
I'd have no say
where you bury me

bury me
along a straightened path
so, I can see
what lays ahead
six feet deep
my final rest
that is all
that needs be said
when you bury me

Death of a King
Mike Hauser Apr 4
Daddy somebody shot that man
I heard this eleven year old say
I didn't really understand at the time
I just knew a man was dead

But with the years that followed
I came to learn how much he meant
To this world in its great need
And how well that time was spent

He preached of equality he preached of peace
As he spoke of man as one
He marched his way down city streets
Facing adversity with the face of love

He was done with all the hatred
That fills so many lives
To him color was a vision
Of equality in his eyes

A life so young a life cut short
By the wicked in us all
Will you stand with me and follow him
Will you heed his righteous call

To call every man your brother
The way Martin Luther King Jr. did
To keep the vision of this visionary alive
A reality in which all mankind should live
I was that eleven year old boy so many years ago and still remember that moment I heard and told my father the news...
We even visited the tragic site where this great man lost his life that day in Memphis. The thing is he knew his days were numbered but refused to give up on equality for all people...

Childs Play...
Mike Hauser Apr 3
I know you are but what am I
Wins an argument every time
There's never been a better come back line
In your arsenal you can find
I know you are but what am I

Your mother wears combat boots
Are words you can choose to get their goose
Whether or not it is true
Nothing more that you need do
Than to state your mother wears combat boots

I am rubber you are glue
Whatever bounces off me sticks to you
Is a great line for you to choose
If they're throwing insults back at you
I am rubber you are glue

You're a gray sprinkle on a rainbow cupcake
Can just about ruin the sweetest of days
They know what you mean and hear what you say
When you throw that little bit of ditty their way
You're a gray sprinkle on a rainbow cake

It takes one to know one
Will pretty much get the job done
Standing still or on the run
From the hip with your insult gun
Not a better one than, it takes one to know one

Too Much of Nothing
Mike Hauser Apr 2
There's too much of nothing
In the muddled minds of men
And if you want to know a well-known secret
For years now we've struggled to understand

Try and pass ourselves off as geniuses
What could be further from the truth
When all we are, are minions
That say and do what they tell us to

There's too much of nothing
That keeps getting passed around
Who is there among us
That in their head there's not a hollow sound

Chaulk one up for our side
But who is even oddly keeping score
On the latest diatribe
Tell me something I don't know

There's too much of nothing
Behind this frown that's going down
We're all good at juggling
Misfit kit and caboodle of circus clowns

On this latest craze, save the date
Never giving it a rest
When too much of nothing
Is the thing that we do best

Perfectly Beautiful
Mike Hauser Apr 1
You need to tell yourself you're perfect
Beautiful inside and out
All that mirrors do is mostly lie to you
To do their best to keep you down

And that you serve a purpose
A reason to why you're here
Not a single soul is worthless
Bend your own ear to make it clear

There's not a one that smiles like you do
Or has your personality
You're one of a kind to tell the truth
My hope for you is you soon believe

How important your time and place is
While standing in line to this thing called life
To the front, some never make it
Don't let the lies keep you behind

Because you my friend are beautiful
Both inside and out
All that mirrors do is mostly lie to you
To do their best to keep you down

sticks and stones
along with graveyard bones
the dead speak for themselves

where lonely rows
hold their souls
no rest for the weary or the dead

packed in red clay
much the same
ashes to ashes, dust to dust

in a simple box
of pine that rots
hinges held yet set to rust

no names or dates
to mark the graves
memories are all that's left

lost generations
not of their own making
the dead are best when secrets are kept
Driving on the back roads of North Carolina years ago we came across a huge graveyard in a red clay field with rows and rows of stones as head markers, that site and sight never seem to leave my mind

Phone Face
Mike Hauser Mar 29
How much time a day do I tend to waste
Sitting around with this phone in my face
Could it be me or the phone that grabs hold
Taking me out to places unknown

Wasted hours spent on end
With this death grip, making demands
Far more than a gander, this longing look
Tossed line and sinker, this phone's got me hooked

It all started off where I'd place a few calls
Talk with my friends at a minimal cost
That's when my phone whispered to me
Soon enough you'll see, I'm all that you need

It's hard now to go from one room to another
Without me and my phone tied to this tether
I should be upset, spinning the drain
Holding me back, this new ball and chain

Oh, wasted days along with the nights
How many ways has this messed up my life
When I spend most my time out here in mid-stare
On senseless Apps that take me nowhere

How much time a day do I tend to waste
Sitting around with this phone in my face...
What have we done to ourselves...

The Title? I Forgot...
Mike Hauser Mar 26
I'm often caught in the realm of forgot
In most everything I do
While trying my best to up and guess
What was the quest that brought me into this room

There had to be a purpose
To the thought that brought me here
Racking my brain, time and time, then again
It's more of the same but still far from clear

Or in the middle of a sentence
With conversations in full flow
My mind loses the grip on where it was at
And can't help but slip to places unknown

Here one minute, gone the next
These random thoughts inside my head
To the point of no return
Saw the chance, up and fled

And when it comes to names and numbers
Is it any wonder you could call it a crime
The way I forget the moment it hits
This soft cranium I sadly claim to be mine

Too often caught in the realm of forgot
In most everything I do
While trying my best to up and guess
This more or less is the general rule

Happily, Homeless
Mike Hauser Mar 25
Some see me on the street
With my hungry sign held high
A few might stop to toss a buck
But most just pass me by

With no earthly idea
Of how I'm getting along
And if the position I am in
Is or isn't my own fault

If they dared look beyond the stare
They might see outright
As they're on their way to work
I'm living out my life

Without all the thick walls
Where at night I pitch my tent
That are used to keep me out
Or sadly, hold them in

My celling's are the open skies
Where at night I see the stars
And as the day rolls round to my delight
The sun is there to keep me warm

Without a single worry
Piled high upon my plate
No pressure and no hurry
To fall into a life, I hate

Like those I see passing me
In the prison of their cars
People ruled by mounting bills
On their way to work

Take it easy
Take it slow
Life for us is much too fast
In case this you didn't already know

Take time out for a breath
Every now and then
Life is right for sound advice
With a grain of salt, learn how to live

Take it easy
Nice and slow
Find yourself a front porch swing
Like the wise folk down in Tupelo

Take time to watch it pass by
And you, with nowhere to go
In-between yawns you're sure to find
What you should already know

Take it easy
Take it slow
If you're not careful, soon enough you will find
The speed of life has hidden tolls

If you're waiting for blessings to fall in your lap
Like a napkin you expertly fold
How many times have you heard it said
Take it easy, take it slow

Can you tell me what the difference is
Between the right and the left
Which one is numb to what's going on
Which one nods and shakes their head

Who has the best fountain of ideas
Solid to the core
Who if they left, would be missed
Who would you prefer to show to the door

What have they done in accomplishments
What medals hang on their chest
What battles rage on, more importantly won
What will be said when there's nothing left

Who of the few stands for justice
When clearly injustice is served
Who do you know between them both
That can be trusted when keeping their word

From what I see on both sides of the creek
There's quite a bit that can be said
From all I've gleaned if you ask me
There's not a whole lot of difference,
between the right and the left

Morally Bankrupt
Mike Hauser Mar 22
There's a moral bankruptcy
That's plaguing this great land
If you don't see life through the eyes of Christ
There's not a chance you'll understand

If you rely on wisdom
Siphoned through the corruption of man
Then you'll be blind in both heart and mind
And when it falls you won't stand a chance

If the feeling you get is this all makes sense
In these topsy-turvy times
Then the morals you hold are out of control
Which needs a dose of Godly light

Left to your own devices
You'll end up riding shotgun with the devil
Void of the facts with little time left
To turn it around if you're even able

Like I said at the top being morally bankrupt
You really don't stand a chance
If you fail to see life through the eyes of Christ
Try hard as you might, you'll never understand

Last Round
Mike Hauser Mar 21
Woke up…
Blood on my shirt
Glass in my hair
Face down in the dirt

Wondering at…
What this is about
Drink in my hand
At the last count

Did I…
Have friends with me
Who did their best to beg
For my car keys

Would a do over
Be too much to ask
And if I did
Would it lessen this mess

Did I…
Hear someone scream
Or heaven forbid
Is it coming from me

Wondering at…
Why the pain went away
All of the sudden
Nothing’s the same

Woke up…
In the cleanest of shirts
No glass anywhere
Coffin covered in dirt

Where went the days
We had things to say
While others sat back and listened

May not have agreed
But still felt the need
That time should be equally given

Unto both sides
Whether they're wrong or right
We should all be afforded our opinion

Without one another
Screaming at each other
One thing we seem to be missing

Make it make sense
Shouldn't we live and let live
No matter the side you are on

We should after all
Adhere to the goal
Of trying to all get along

Look closely and see
We basically have the same needs
Where we all just want to be loved

Which brings on the point
In our needs and our wants
Shouldn't love after all be enough

To bring us together
In hard times or pleasure
It really shouldn't be that tough

To turn things around
No matter how far down we've allowed
I'll say it again; it's got to be love

snippets

i remember snippets
as if they were yesterday
held tight in my grip and
wouldn't let those snippets slip away

shoved them deep in the pockets of my denim jeans
faded from years of wear and tear
the ones with holes in both memories and knees
snippets from passing years

A Thing or Two
Mike Hauser Mar 19
I never realized we were a thing
My guess is it wasn't clear
Till what we had up and left
On that fateful day you disappeared

There's not a thing that's worth repeating
Out here now on my own
And if you don't mind me telling you something
I don't much like being all alone

Everything thing we had together
Now doesn't mean a thing to me
What really seems to matter
Is in how we used to be

There are things in life you can't control
Still, you do your best to make it through
I only wish at the time that I had known
I had a thing or two for you

...and apparently still do

You can be a man of peace
But there will come a time
When you find the least of these
Must stand up and fight

If you let a world of bullies
Continue to beat you down
You have the right to stand and fight
Pick yourself up off the ground

For far too long with time drawn
Taken advantage of
It's your turn now to win a round
******* tight the boxing gloves

Backed into a corner
Up against the wall
When you find no options left
That's when you make the call

To come out of this swinging
Who can really blame
You for any reason
When you up and loudly proclaim

That you're a man of peace
And hold tight the right
When you find that there's a need
To stand up and fight

Hitchhiking Away
Mike Hauser Mar 18
Went out early morning
Hit the road and stuck out my thumb
A passerby gave me a ride
From that moment on, I was gone

Tripping across the great divide
From one point to the next
I'd call those to say adios
But do they know I've even left

Up and down the side of mountains
Back and forth along the coast
When you've no idea of where you're going
There's the slimmest chance that you'll get lost

Keep in mind I find no hurry
As I watch the world scurry about
Caught up in their plans and worries
Out of control in the fast lane of doubt

Not really sure how long it's been
Could be weeks, months, or years
Since the day I found my way
To make it away from all life's cares

There's so much to find when peace of mind
Decides to make a run
As day after day, out of the gate
From here to there, sticking out my thumb

sympathetic
Mike Hauser Mar 18
if we only could see
each other's needs
then maybe we'd have
a bit more sympathy

if we focused on those
who feel all alone
love them and hug them
giving them hope

then we could start
in the softening of hearts
i'm sure it would work
if we all played our part

focus our help
on somebody else
seek others needs
more than ourselves

we really should know this
giving hope to the hopeless
stand up for what's right
make it our fight

open our hearts
to each other's needs
then maybe we'd have
a bit more sympathy

Thoughts & Desires
Mike Hauser Mar 17
I take my words
And write them down
A desperate need to be heard
But too afraid, to say them out loud

My inner thoughts
My deep desires
Are displayed on page
Like a modern-day town crier

I hide behind
This shaky pen
That seems to have a willingness
At times to do me in

Giving away my thoughts
My hopes and desires
Writing what I ought not
Setting page on fire

In which said words
This pen delights
Desperately needing to be heard
While laying them all out in rhyme

Dirt Poor
Mike Hauser Mar 16
Growing up in the back woods
Not a single one of us knowed
That we were in any way dirt poor
All because we hadn't been told

A family that survived on shared love
In tattered clothes outworn
Us kids lived for adventure
While Mama was living on hope

Never once were we burdened
By the constant pull of T.V.
There was no way for that to happen
Without electricity

Surviving day and night on the light
From both the Sun and the Moon
Relying on the family shared fiddle
When we needed to hear some of our favorite tunes

A family that survived on shared love
In tattered clothes outworn
Us kids lived for adventure
While Mama was living on hope

With no time in life to be caught bored
Living off the blessings we got
You might think we were dirt poor
...I'm thinking not
