forever changed by your life,

grateful...

i was your father
missing you, son    (10w)
(a prayer for my wife)*

Wiping the dust
That collects in her mind
She's cleaning his room again
Trying to find
Something passed over
Some kind of sign
Answers to questions
Dear Father Divine

Like a blanket so heavy
Grief weighs her down
Keeps her from hearing
The happiest sounds
Keeps her from knowing
The pleasures of life
Keeps her from seeing
Dear Father of Sight

Hoping to glimpse
Longing to see
Looking to capture
Her dying memory
His fingerprints fade
His smell almost gone
His laughter grows distant
Dear Father of Song

The fear of forgetting
More real than you know
Erasing the mind
To remember no more
Like waves of the ocean
Clearing the shore
Of footprints we've made
Dear Father of Hope

Dear Lord may she know
Your grace and Your truth
May she find in this journey
Her heart wrapped in Your strength
May the sense of Your purpose
Dispel all her fear
May the joy of Your presence
Dear Father be near.
written awhile back; seemed an appropriate prayer to post this beautiful sunday morning. though broken, we hope!!
Hush, lullay.

Your treasures all

Encrust with rust,

Your trinket pleasures fall

        To dust.

Beneath the sapphire arch,

Upon the grassy floor,

Is nothing more

        To hold,

And play is over-old.

Your eyes

        In sleepy fever gleam,

Their lids droop

        To their dream.

You wander late alone,

The flesh frets on the bone,

Your love fails in your breast,

Here is the pillow.

Rest.
This is about the girl who fell in love with the moon.
Resting against the cold glass window at night
To get a glimpse of the light on the side she laid eyes on
And wondered about the darkness she would never get to see.
This is about the girl who fell in love with the stars.
Watching them sparkle and shoot across the sky.
She shed a tear knowing these stars were long diminished
And wondered if she as well would leave such a lasting mark.
This is about the girl who fell in love with the rain.
Falling fast asleep to the quiet drops on the pavement
With colors forming through the heavy mist,
And wondered if she could ever be as beautiful as a rainbow.
This is about the girl who fell in love with the ocean.
Sinking her toes in the sand while breathing the salty air,
Noticing the fish swimming easily through the blue water
And wondered if she could glide through life the same way.
This is about the girl who fell in love with the sun.
Lying in the swaying grass, feeling a soft breeze on her cheeks
Only to be shaded by the birds flying free under the light
And she wondered if she could one day be as free.
This is about the girl who fell in love with solitude.
Curled up with the dusty pages of her favorite book
Reading of the lover’s who share their lives together,
And wondered if one day she might share her solitude.
This is about the girl who fell in love with you.
With the way your body wrapped around hers,
How you could command a room with the warmth of your smile
And she wondered if one day she could call you hers.
This is about the girl who fell in love with too many things.
Realizing none of them would ever be hers,
Knowing she had no one to share them with.
And she wondered if she would always feel so alone.

I wrote you out word by word
hoping for half as much.
I saw in you what I wanted
paid in full.
Signing up for credit to afford you
going door to door for
bottles and change.
Digging deep to deserve you.
There was a moment
I thought I saw the same old thing
wrapped in your pretty package.
Then I looked out of myself
and saw inside you
and my words became
crayon scribbles
on the closet wall.
Your words poured into me
out of me, tears
lasting not a stitch
on my cheek
caught by your tongue
as our breath became one.
Sing to me, sing to me night,
   for I hark!
The cry of the owl,
   the hail of the lark;
   the kiss of the wind
   from blackness so stark;

Sing to me, sing,
   cheers of the dark.

Speak to me, speak to me
   'fore morn bereaves
   the rustling footsteps
   from dances of leaves
   as twinkling stars peek
   through high forest eaves

Speak to me, speak
   as night the moon cleaves.
--ACE!!
I loved you in the morning, our kisses deep and warm,
your hair upon the pillow like a sleepy golden storm,
yes, many loved before us, I know that we are not new,
in city and in forest they smiled like me and you,
but now it's come to distances and both of us must try,
your eyes are soft with sorrow,
Hey, that's no way to say goodbye.
I'm not looking for another as I wander in my time,
walk me to the corner, our steps will always rhyme
you know my love goes with you as your love stays with me,
it's just the way it changes, like the shoreline and the sea,

but let's not talk of love or chains and things we can't
untie,
your eyes are soft with sorrow,
Hey, that's no way to say goodbye.
I loved you in the morning, our kisses deep and warm,
your hair upon the pillow like a sleepy golden storm,
yes many loved before us, I know that we are not new,
in city and in forest they smiled like me and you,
but let's not talk of love or chains and things we can't
untie,
your eyes are soft with sorrow,
Hey, that's no way to say goodbye.
