Apollo’s chariot rests
below the horizon’s layers
yellow, pink, and blue.
Breathing in the sunset,
night’s chill takes the air
with chirping crickets
hooting owls
and starlike fire flies.
Nature stuns me on a regular basis.

And winds that mean no harm

Nice big mushroom cloud
Gonna dust your farm

During the early 1950s, St. George, Utah received a majority of the fallout that occurred at the Yucca Flats northwest of Las Vegas during the nuclear testing period of weapons development. The winds routinely carried the radiation to this area, resulting in a significant increase of cancer in the general population.

she prays to
the fresh flowers

in the field
of dreams

asking them
for beauty

she wants to
grow into

something
desired
and admired

she wants to
be inhaled

and held tight
by someone

desperate for her love

feeling luxurious
like the

fresh flowers
in the field

of dreams

I LIKE TO SAY YOUR NAME

I like to say
your name

when you're
not here

turn you
into sound

conjure you out of
thin air

so that you appear
before me

dressed in sound
only

memory sketching in
the rest of you

as if sound
was just an outline

and love
colours you in

adding the voice last
so I can hear you say.

"Hello you..!"
and there you are

as present
as present

can be.

I like to say
your name

when you're
not there.

you drank from me
with crimson lips
high on my essence
devouring

gorging on the pounds of flesh
that I had paid

as you chewed both fat and sinew
gnawing your way through
to my marrow

licking your fill from my sanity

feeding gluttonously
at the banquet
of my sobriety

until my skin was paper thin
empty
void

as organza eyes
stared back at you
and wept

knowing

for it was not love
that you craved

to gorge

to fatten on

it was all that I was

that you were not

that filled you

and emptied me
did I taste good?

she said
I am numb

my soul does
not feel

I accept
everything

as inevitable
my dog is

neutered or
asleep

I can’t eat
raw meat

it makes
me sick

she said
you are not

the animal
I married
Once upon a time

I decided I'd design the universe

Make the stars dance according to my whims

Fry the sun in butter until

It was as golden as I wanted it to be

My universe lasted for a while.
