Don’t weep
you cure the sick air
with a robust love
Passing out redemption
Like lollipops for broken dreams
You are the reluctant warrior
Here to mend torn casualties
from mankind’s cruelty
a new dawn has emerged
with every shift you take
You know who you are
In the trenches muddy
And sodden but moving
Steadily towards
A towering grace
Thank you.

Lit
Candlelit dinners
are meant to impress
I've seen the show
'Keeping Up Appearances'
way too many times
to acquire that knowledge
but candles are filters for
aged women like me
the glow softens the face
then I begin to look like
a 'Star Trek' cameo shot
with vaseline smeared
all over the lens
To be young and
wrinkle-less again
would be my dream
just without the dumb that
comes with it

Water is blood
it flows flawless sacred
from the head of mountains
to the feet of forests
sometimes still
****** to your lips

I'll never understand
the apprehension
for water
like cursing the woman
who gave you life

Water eludes those
who would besiege her
The undeserving ones
The haters who would burn her
at the stake if she were to
manifest

Alas water being
the blueprint
for life is merciful
to us all
and a tireless enigma
of the female sort

I laid down
my own mask
My face needed
room to breathe
I remember
I was once a pretender
Jostled ghosts
With paper armor
Kept the
truth from
being haunted.
It’s not easy to show
The world my teeth
And the ugly cast for my
setting bones
to be self-liberated
in the land of make believe
than encumbered
by collective lies...

Maybe if we all
took one deep
collective breath
we could step off
this mad
merry-go-round
into a world
where
thoughtfulness
reigns
and nature is divine
then we could teach
our children the
slow ways of walking
mindfully on this land...
Tanisha Jackland Mar 2020
We were never
in control
just cunning enough
to fool ourselves
While the planet
spins on
nudging us gently
to move mindfully
in this space
no more
cars or stock
portfolios
or brutality
just the clear air
of kindness and simplicity
the new way of life.

You were born
untethered from
the greed of men

who would
usurp all the good in
the land for their
great fortune

Let that agenda wane
into the wind
that you may be
human again

Evolve into
the quiet dance
for you are in
the company
of trees

return to your
birthright and love
what is good
and unhurried
