We walked out of the midnight blue
Eyes squinting
Fingers clinching
Holding hands
To feel together
So long in darkness
It nearly overcame us
The sun looked foreign at first
So pompous in his sky
It took us a while
To feel better
To feel
That invariable sigh
Cowering under the sheets
                  I beg of you
Stay, my lovely Illusion
Come back, my Fata Morgana

Do not let me wander off
  into that wild, dark night
Keep me from meeting those terrors
  those taunting dreams

Shivering from bones to blanket
                 I reach out to you
Try to grasp your stream of consciousness
Caress the ethereal of your mind

I scream.

Keep me locked up in you
Have me as an aside of cruel reality
Take what I offer and improve it
See me partially,
                           see me whole!
daddy said i had to go to bed
i told him there was a monster there
he looked underneath and then he said
"it's gone princess" and ruffled my hair

"but the monster's waiting for night"
daddy wouldn't listen to me
but later he heard me and turned on the light
he said it was impossible, it couldn't be

the monster grinned all over its faces
revealing its throats, twisted mesh
"come lie down, we're playing a game"
as it picked apart my flesh

fear.
i guess its just the realization.
its not truly a fear.
but more of a sadness.
a melancholy feeling.
knowing.
that they wont be there.
as you walk down the aisle.
across the stage.
the day youve been working for your entire life.
and now.
the examples of working hard.
they wont be there.
to see the work.
the dedication.
the blood.
the sweat.
the tears.
that went into getting there.
the dream.
it wont happen.
youll graduate.
without them seeing.
youll graduate.
and theyll know.
but theyll be missing in pictures.
