Wear your heart beneath your sleeve
don't buy into the hype
people become a lot less interested
once they've seen your heart,
instead,
let them see your sleeve ripple
with each passing beat
so that the people might say
"what was that,
beneath your sleeve"
and you just smile back
"I have no idea what you're talking about"

There is something within the heart
of western society
a voice of sorts
a frothing, thrashing, screaming voice
which knows only one word,
west,
for some people it's god,
the west is the American holy land
a brand spanking new Canaan
it reeks of hard work
and tastes like the dust
kicked up from an eternity of tires and wheels and spokes
it smells like fresh prairies
and feels like a worn leather belt
and emaciated happy xylophone rib cages
and it looks like  how adventure feels
the west, the endless west,
spurs and sunshine and simple life
always calling
always howling away in the warm humid south eastern nights

I, with every ounce of who I am, need you...
I need you to complete my sentence, my day and me -
You are always following my thoughts,
Knocking on my every conceived notion to be let in -
                                                                                                                                     Please, come in...

I, fiercely want every morsel of you -
I want you beneath me, on top of me, in front of me,
But...        more than anything...
                                         I want you beside me...
Walking with me through this haze of a life together -
Figuring the world out as one,
Living a great adventure and setting the world ablaze...
All it will take is one word -

                                                                           Yes.

Sunshine, Sunshine come back out and play?
I swear we weren’t laughing at you the other day,
The clouds in the sky were making funny shapes, the lady with her hat got blown away, the children in the sandbox, the squirrels in the trees
Mr. Sun you have to believe me, please!
We won’t laugh at you, you give us colors, without you we wouldn’t have flowers, or spring, or kites on long strings
Don’t make me beg, it’s chilling me right down to my bones.
We’re freezing in this rain dear sun, how else can I let you know?  You give us heat and light, your rays give us reasons to grow, you nurture our every waking hour oh sun, didn’t you already know? We love you with all our hearts beautiful sun! And there is something else you should know:
You make us laugh and smile sun, you warm our very hearts dear sun, now please come out, come out dear sun and give us light and summer, please come out, come out Sunshine and fill this world with color.

I could see you a thousand times and still not understand
The heart that creates fabled sonnets and holds love in her command
The wings of whom are white as swans and as wide as the albatross
All I can do is tell you why for words I'm at a loss

I could listen to silken words that fall out of your mouth
But be no further in my mind for a letter to come out
Such earthly made thing are like encasing gold within cold lead
So I will keep such things in my heart and fret not on what's in my head

I could touch the skin I crave each and every solitary day
My lips touch yours and then I find that I am worlds away
But still come short pertaining to these trivial words of mine
So I vow here, on bended knee, for the rest of my life, to try

Teddy Roosevelt would be proud of how you held your head
Higher than the food as you spilled out all your cares onto it
And your companion whisked it away, what a lovely one she is
You clambered up the highest mountain to get to a waterfall
That cleansed away all of you mistakes and you went to sleep
With the awful whiskey taste still in your mouth and a vow
To never again

I live in a serene world,
where the streams are still
and the mountains soar effortlessly into the sky.
So make the very ground I stand on uncertain,
make the rocks tumble off the mountain tops
and the trees uproot right before my eyes.
Make the blue waters ripple and splash,
and make the ground tear apart.
Make my world shake---
be my earthquake.

You were shushed before you cried
Then poisoned and cast aside
In the most purposeful yet purposeless way
You were left to slowly decay

You will never get the chance to walk
I won't get to see you smile
Or chase you down the aisle
You were left to slowly decay

Why would I whimper?
Whimper that my decision were a tad bit simpler?
But you're not dead
Because you were never born
In the most purposeful yet purposeless way

Ignoring family, friends, and even God Himself
I peeled my dignity and pitched it at the shelf
We didn't know how to play the cards we had drawn
So you were poisoned and cast aside

Now, my darling won't get to see another day
And we're doomed to to be judged and critiqued by the USA
If going back was an option, you would be alive
However, it isn't so we must revive
You were shushed before you cried

If me faking makes you beautiful;
I'll lie away every inch of this truth keeping me sane,
I'll smile in your face and keep the reality behind the sparkle in my eyes,
I'll glue these dying pedals back to a rose and pretend it's blooming,
I'll turn my tears into sparkling diamonds for you to wear,
I'll give you my veins as your donor to replace any blood you've lost,
And my body for you to lie on when nails spread across your floor,
I'll give my life just so your ears would be caressed by one sweet lie,
Finding it's way to your smile,
And fooling you into realizing you are so...
beautiful.

For the one-night stand I have never had and the
Future I'll gladly take like a powder
In a nine dollar drink
On the rocks.
