I don't think we did

I know we both remember
those nights so long ago
when all our  limbs would tremble
as we thought we would know
... it wouldn't last

but it did

Still we face another day
and skin to skin we touch
Our hearts remember
We belong together
but only by so much

I thought we did

Did you forget the Summer night
we camped out by the stream?
Nature blessed us with a beautiful night
and blessed me with a dream

I remember it did

Did you forget about the night
on the sheepskin on the floor
Eternal love is when I look into eyes
of our Daughter created that night
who we both adore

I know you didnt

No two lives are ever the same
and for that I won't take blame
We're opposites but a perfect match
we got lost inside the game

I think we did*

Laying next to you
in the dark of night
is the only thing
in this world
that keeps me sane

Vows whisper across skin
beneath our fingertips
asking you and me?
and the answer would be,

*We will never forget

just rip my heart
out of my chest
with your bare hands
and long fingers

throw it out
to the sea

burn it
to ashes

leave it to
gather dust

because that’s
your thing,
right?
that’s what
you do?

and i don’t
want to
change you

just past midnight, in bed with you
together, yet I alone, listen, awake,
shuffling in a Pandora world,
Iz's ukulele invites me over the rainbow,
unaware and unbeknownst to him,
I am there, already
awaiting for his too soon,
untimely arrival.

the weekend war, culture vs. football,
resolved, peace negotiations concluded,
orzo and grilled chicken repast served,
après le bon deluge,
love the treaty signing dinners.

just past midnight,
caress thy hand with solitary thumb,
whispering you are my woman now.
you groggily answer interrogatorily,
"what?"
and I suppress the infectious,
giggling way too loud.

these are the unsummoned moments,
these are the thee-free moments,
this the summary of a man's boon,
their disparate pleasures collectively,
a unity deserving the honorific,
Untitled Moments.

I wonder,
If you still lift your head,
From whatever held
Your attention,
When you hear my name.
And I wonder,
If you remember
The love we shared,
Until something else,
Grabbed your attention.

I deleted a picture of us
I think it's really over

You once said getting a picture with the guy you're seeing
Is the death knell of a relationship in your life

It looks like you weren't wrong.

I thought I'd write something about breakups
But then I gave up

And that made me happier.

Everyone is looking for a savior.

Yet, no one wants to save her.

The clouds turn gray and the memories fade away.

Imprints of bodies are all that remain.

And no one really wants to go to war.

Yet everyone wants someone to fight for.

When really,

Flames lead to dust.

And ashes smear your cheeks.

The air reeks,

Of broken,

muddied,

*dreams.

Your eyes forecast
the coming of showers...

your persona gloomy
forever overcast by dark clouds

whether I say...

I love you

Or

not.
Weather I say I love you or not.
