I  write songs without a  tune,
I'm a story teller, stories based
on my life's strange and weird
happenings and events that I
can't forget. I write of odd and
out of place interactions with
seemingly unreal people.

I write about the news, sometimes
about my feelings, my various
loves and lovers,and sometimes I
just write, not knowing where
my  words are coming from,
almost as if someone was using
me as a tool, writing through me.

Be  a  fighter, get  up and  dust
yourself off for life isn't a fairy tale,
there is no knight in shining armor
who will ride in and save the day.

Be  your own  hero, learn  to walk
alone because all the so-called knights

through all of the ways
I think the first thing I would do
would be to find my way to you
and seek to take from out of your heart
the pain for which

We are all traveling through
time together and all we can
do is just do our best so flood
the universe with an ocean of
good karma and you will in
return receive only the best and
good fortune will come your
way so be prepared to accept
all of the happiness that comes
your way if you don't count the
days but make the days count.

Nothing is fixed and everything
is always permanently changing
as change is part of our existence
and  is really its foundation as
time passes and the years fly by
bringing many mental changes
along with so many physical
changes and we look in the
mirror and discover that we
are not the same person
anymore and neither are any
of our loved ones or our friends
and we soon realize that
growing old beats the
alternative of dying young.

Resisting change is like trying
to hold water in your hand
because change is life and life
is change so don't be afraid
of changing but always be
afraid of not changing and
remember that it never gets
easier but that you just have to
get better and remember that
life is only complicated when
you make it complicated.

Don't regret growing
old because it is a
privilege denied to
many and while you
are here be in
competition with no
one and have no desire
to play the game of being

but just try to be better

Getting lost will help
you find yourself so

As I get older I discover that there
is a certain beauty to getting old
and as I get older I discover that
it opens me up to not being afraid
of anything in this beautiful
adventure of life.

I choose to celebrate life in my
later years and I take nothing
for granted anymore because
I am still in a beautiful adventure
and it can be especially beautiful
when you are able to celebrate it
with the person that you love
and want to be with so you can
celebrate the adventure together.

some honest compassion,

Somewhere in the world is a treasure
that has no value to anyone but you,

that possesses a revelation that only
you know how to exploit.

Search for those things.

Somewhere in the world is a  person
who could ask you that precise question
that you need to hear in order to catalyze
the next phase of your evolution.

Do what's necessary to come face to face
with that person and listen to what they
have to say.

Feel empowered if you use your power
to empower others.

There's a reason why the rear view mirror
is so small and the windshield is so big.

It is because where you're headed is much
more important than what you've left
behind and it allows you to search for those

Everyone   must
choose   one   of
two   pains:

The pain of discipline
               or
The  pain   of   regret.

I've  found the  pain of regret to hurt
so much worse.  Discipline  I learned
in the Marine Corps because if I didn't
learn it, I was a dead man in the war I

As  a child  
I colored with reckless abandon  outside  the  lines
                         all over the place
             and   wherever  I  felt, as I defined
                       the word abstract

             Blue  elephants,   purple   trees,  
   red   fish, blue and white bears, green oceans,
            pink moons.   -- it  was  all   good.

                     As I grew older everyone
       was  trying  to make me  color inside  the lines,  
                color everything just like
                          I saw  it.

        So  I  ended  up  painting  by numbers.
          --- Whether you actually paint,

                or dance, act or direct,  create
                              what you feel ,
                         create outside the lines

She can be sweet as candy,
                    mean as an alligator,
cold as winter in Kansas,
hot and **** as a dancer on her
                                    stripper pole,
and loyal like a soldier but it
                        all depends on you.

There's a fire burning in her.......
                    and if loved correctly,
she will warm your entire home,
if abused, she will burn it down,
       so spoil her with loyalty, she
                       can finance herself.

She never finds the need to
     explain herself to anyone and
she doesn't need anyone's
approval as she lives her life and
       does what makes her happy.

She is wise and wary of flames but
still she knows she will survive the
fire life scorches sometimes as she
has been a phoenix before and
every time she burns to ashes she
knows exactly how to rise again.

All she wants is someone that sees
    the fire in her eyes and wants to
play with it and she is not looking
  for a knight, she is looking for a
                                                sword.
Strong women scare weak men but a strong man can make a strong woman go weak in the knees and it is not how we make mistakes but how we correct them that defines us and we know that a great relationship doesn't happen because of the love we had in the beginning, but how well we continue building love until the end, and I love her I promise.

You are enrolled in a school called life and you will have
daily opportunity to learn lessons and all of the lessons you
learn you will not like because there are no mistakes only
lessons because growth is a process of trial and error and
your lessons will be repeated until they are learned and
how quickly you will find that the lessons never end
because as long as you are alive there are lessons to be
learned.

If you. . .live with criticism you will condemn and if you live
with hostility you will learn to fight and if you live with fear
you will be apprehensive and if you live with pity you will
constantly feel sorry for yourself.

If you. . .live with lies the truth will always be hard to find
and if you live with ridicule you will be shy and if you live
with jealously you will learn what envy is and if you live with
praise you will always appreciate and if you live with love
you will find acceptance and sharing.

If you. . .live with sharing you will learn to be generous and if
you live with honesty and fairness you will learn what the
truth really is and who is telling the truth and if you are friendly
you will learn that the world is a nice place to live and if you
possess serenity you will have some peace of mind.

If you. . .have to wonder why then your life will always be a
question and if you live with shame you will always feel guilty
but if you live with tolerance you will be patient and if you
get encouragement you will learn to be confident.

Let your love be warm and generous
because whosoever loves much performs
much and can accomplish much and know
what is done in love is done well and to
me there is nothing more truly artistic
than to love people.

I have nature and art and poetry, and if
that is not enough, what is enough and
a great fire burns within me, but no one
stops to warm themselves at it and passers
by only see a wisp of smoke but to judge
another is to become blind and delay
your own passage.

Normality is a paved road: it is comfortable
to walk, but no flowers grow on it and I try
more and more to be myself, caring relatively
little whether people approve or disapprove.

If you truly love nature, you will find beauty
everywhere and to suffer without complaint
is the only lesson we have to learn in this life
and it is such a pity that as one gradually gains
experience, one loses one's youth.

Do not try relentlessly to understand because
time itself will decide and do not be sad, your
joy will come when it is time, and remember
to not love easily but well.

I have promises to keep
and many miles to go
before I can sleep and I take pride
in how far I have come
without coming totally undone
from events and people
that no human should ever
have to face but I am finally free
of those poor choices
and bad places and know
that I am not yet done
and that I have found
the sun.

We lead such fragile lives
and I have to remind myself
that nothing is too good to be true
and my hopes can be realized
and my most wonderful dreams
can and will come true
and that there really is
no more need to be blue
because she knows
just what to do.

There is still so much to see

before I am done but our time
runs short and I know
that I have been blessed

comes to me with great relief

A bright red
     Cardinal had a confrontation
         with  a  picture  window
                 for 45 minutes
                         as it
           hammered  its  beak
                 against the
        glass and I determined
               that the bird
        had probably mistaken
                    its own
           reflection for that of
    a  rival  that  it  was  trying
                      to attack.
          This suggests that if
                you feel the
          urge to fight others,
     you're probably  mad about
                something in
      yourself, and you need to
                   realize that
                      it's best
            not to hurt yourself
                     or drive
              yourself crazy in
                      an effort
             to chase away an
                      illusion
             that  is  a  distorted
               representation
                         of a
                    real thing.

Living in seclusion and
trapped in the worlds
illusion of what is right

continue to search for
things I can't seem to find
because I am trapped inside.

All seems a grand illusion
and there seems no escape
from all of the confusion
but I am happy alone
because my mind can roam.

Don't judge others and others
won't judge you and don't be

Forgive them and they will
forgive you and you will
harvest what you plant,
whether good or bad.

We don't stop loving because
we grow old, we grow old if
we stop loving and life is

Life is sometimes a dream
so let us realize it and let us

know that all of the hurt
and pain will eventually
fade away.

People and things quickly
become the past so enjoy them
while they are here because you
look up and they are gone and
you didn't even get to say

Know that it is better to have
given too much then not enough
and that in the end all you can
do is lose or make a friend,

      but our minds stay
    stay young and our

         will be so good

In  1964,  60 years ago,  I  was  16
and she was 14. Two souls searching
the universe  and when we met,  the
searching was over.

And I still think about her and those
crazy days together, her young skin
on my fingertips, her young  lips  on
mine.

But the Vietnam war turned my world
upside down and I would never be the
same.  

As I turn 76 today I go into the depths
of night to find my voice - thoughts forming
into feelings, then words on paper.

A poet navigating a tainted world.

When  you cannot  control  what's
happening, challenge yourself to control
the way you respond to what's happening.
That is where your power is.  

I write to capture fleeting moments, to fight
the PTSD in my head from a war, to capture
memories of young love and deep desires.

physical changes to each and every

in so much pain and the next day we
are measuring and broadcasting to

One day we are crying and the next

laugh about it and wonder why we
believed such ridiculous ****.

Realize that we are who we are and
the past never returns and know that
we will be someone different in the future
and know that resisting change is like
trying to hold water in your hand.

Change is life and life is change and
the meaning of it all is that there is
no meaning and as the wheels keep
turning the Sun will keep shining just
as the stars will keep falling and the
moon will keep shining in this world
where we are really nothing more than
a microscopic speck of nothingness in
a giant universe.

The  universe  is  built  in such  a  way  as  to
discourage  boredom.  Just open  your  eyes
and look around you and you will never  be
bored,  I promise,  because  in  these  strange
times things are  just moving and developing
so very fast.

It seems like just the other day that I returned
home (1970) from a 13 month tour of combat
duty with the  United States Marine Corps  in
Vietnam and I  just  blinked  my  eyes and  it is
2023 and I am the father of a son and a daughter,
a grandfather of 5 beautiful grandchildren and
a great grandfather of  4 little ones.

You may underestimate the intensity of your
longing for continual transformation, but the
universe doesn't, which is why it provides you
with entertainment for your ever-shifting story
called life.

And that is why it is always revising the challenges
it sends your way, to provide your curious soul
with  a  rich variety of  unpredictable  teachings.

         so many years

Once in awhile, right in the
middle of ordinary life, love
gives us a Fairy Tale because
true love has a habit of coming
back and because true love is
not something you go out and
look for, true love finds you
and when it does, ready or not,
it'll be the best thing to ever
happen to you.

She said to me, "forgive me for
being a dreamer and I took her
hand and replied, "forgive me
for not finding you again sooner
and being there to dream with
you and to help you make those
dreams come true.

Everything comes to you at the
right moment so just be patient
knowing that there is no path to
happiness: happiness is the path
and when it is time for two souls
to meet again, there's nothing on
earth that can prevent them from
meeting, no matter where each
may be located.

Souls that belong to each other
will always find their way back
together and everything will
come to you at the right moment
so there is no reason to rush,
because if something is meant
to be, it will happen at the
right time with the right person
for the right reason and know
that in the end love is composed
of a single soul inhabiting two
bodies.

Solving problems is one

We should not search

Making a big life change is pretty scary. . .
But you know what is even scarier?  regret.
In the end, we only regret the chances we
didn't take, relationships we were afraid to
have, and the decisions we waited too long

choice you have made. If you want a different

Growth is painful, change is painful. But nothing
is  as  painful as  staying stuck  somewhere  
you don't belong.

The fear from combat in a war
doesn't just go away, you just
have to learn how to use it
and I choose to write because
it is my escape and it gives me
such a needed break from all
of those ugly thoughts.

I wrestle with the demons of
doubt, with my past failures,
with my injuries, with that
unrelenting voice that tells me
to stop life and to give up living,
but I was once a Marine, one of
the chosen few, and from
the Corps I  knew one thing
and that is I will be
victorious.

I sometimes have to walk
backwards so that I can see
the road I just walked and
can connect with my inner self
and as a writer I can look at
my canvas from a different
perspective turning bad events
into beautiful words.

Life provides the contours and
as poets we provide the shading
and the color knowing that the
wheels will keep turning, the Sun
will keep shining, just as the stars
will keep falling and the moon

decide  your  HABITS  and  your  HABITS
decide your FUTURE.  

LIVE, DON'T JUST SURVIVE.

Strength comes NOT  from  what you  can  do,
but overcoming what you couldn't.  The grind
doesn't stop. You only fail when you stop trying.

Your  future  depends  on  your  FOCUS.  You get
what you work for. not what you wish for. The
storms will make you a  skilled sailor.  You will
either evolve or dissolve.

At midnight in the month of
June she and I stood beneath
the mystic moon with our hearts
full of what I thought was my
last and final love that came out
of nowhere as if from above.

Now the Sun on this brief
September day rises briskly over
my feelings of gray because I
really had nothing to say to her
except, "why did you do me
that way?"

Love will dream and faith will
trust that somehow somewhere
meet we must to discover if it
was love or just ***** lust because
we both watched it crumble to
dust so fast when we were sure
that it would last.

All I can say is wash what is *****,
water what is dry, heal what is
wounded, sooth what is hurt,
dry tears that are shed, warm
what is cold, guide what goes
off the road and love those who
are least lovable because they
need it the most.

Success is not final just
as failure is not fatal but
it is the courage to continue
that counts so know that it
ain't easy as the days are
long and the years are short
and today you are the oldest
you have ever been and the
youngest you will ever be
again and as we get older the
less we listen to what people
say and the more we look at
what they do and we learn
that it is not the words of our
enemies we will remember
but the silence of our friends.

Your life is a story so write
well and edit often knowing
difficult roads often lead to
beautiful destinations and
life is short, so live it and
love is rare, so grab it, and
fear is awful, so face it, and
memories are sweet so
cherish them.

Know that one of the hardest
things to do in life is letting
go of what you thought was
real and remembering those
two words of six letters that
are easy to say, hard to
explain and harder to do,

Don't be quick to see the
faults of others but instead
see your own faults with
a desire to correct those faults
and see your troubles as
opportunities in disguise.

See beyond those painful
times seeing the needs of
others while responding with
an open heart knowing that
peace comes with forgiveness.

Fill your voice with kindness,
your ears with compassion
along with using your hands
for charity and your mind
for truth and your heart
for love.

Remember to tell someone
that they are appreciated and
that you are grateful for their
friendship and love as you
bury and forget all of those
bitter and unkind thoughts.

Hang in there with patience
and perseverance while making
the rest of your life the best of
your life and remember that
in the end it is with you  
you have to live.

My search is over and I did not even
need a four leaf clover because love
has found me and my love found her
and to say it in a different way and
that is a dream has found me as I sat
aching, silent, and wondering why
since I have been patient and faithful
knowing that I would find her along
with eternal peace and my wandering
would final cease.

She was a heart ready and willing but
having been unfortunately denied but
still loving and committing as she
waited for me to show up at her front
door and as we met today I opened
up in her direction just like a flower
opens to the sun.

As our lips met I could feel her heart
pounding against my chest and knew
she was ready for love again as I was
ready to love again as well.

In just one day she lifted the sadness
from my weary heart and we both talked
of making a new start and how we
would never be apart and how both of
us had been lost but now were found
and how the chemistry did abound
with this beautiful lady that I connected
