Melting and Mending
The Fire Burns Oct 2016
Stand as you will
with my sly smile
and deft touch
I will melt your heart

A love on the rocks
Finally ends
Maybe then
The heart can mend

Port Aransas, A Texas Beach
The Fire Burns Oct 2016
Wisps of mists
stream off the tops
a saltiness in the air
the gulf breeze blows constant

Gelatinous clear and blue tentacles
a lone jelly fish beached in the sand
small clams burrow under
after each and every wave

Brown muddy water
topped with spume
gives way to emerald
waves rolling on the horizon

Mullet jump in the guts
pursued by a predator
or the sheer ecstasy
in being alive

Beaches and Bikini's
The Fire Burns Oct 2016
Presents wrapped colorfully out on the sand
the gulf shore waves test the knots and bows
fabric triangles and strings leave just enough
to the imagination, while curves show

A stunning visual display on water and land
Bouncing like the volleyballs, part of the show
small, medium, large, some overstuffed
rogue wave washes it off and now we know

Love Grows in the Rain
The Fire Burns Oct 2016
Caught in beauties trap
I felt it around my heart go snap
when you raised your dripping face
It began to beat and race

The thunder clapped and lightning flashed

The rain poured down, but my spirits rose
I remember the moment in poets prose
we were wet, but didn't feel a thing
I felt the need to go buy a ring.

Changing Views and Feelings
The Fire Burns Oct 2016
Clear as crystal on the beach
seconds later, sight cannot reach
as if gauze placed over my eyes
on that sense I can no longer rely

I still hear the waves and taste the salt spray
but the sight of ships, is  what I pray
cruising in the aquamarine sea
take in the impressive a sight to see

The mists roll in and cloud the scene
a bit of fright, into the serene
swirling and moving ghosts and ghouls
in the early morning sun, our brain is fooled

The soup blows away with the breeze
kicks up the sand, and the leaves
clears the view, and dries the sweat
into the water, great tide to get wet.

The Sheepskin Rug
The Fire Burns Oct 2016
Awakened in a sheepskin rug
all tucked in with her and snug
a night of drinking at a friends
has brought all of that to an end

A pact in childhood had been made
that current friendship had forbade
but if an age we reached and still single
with each other, fluids mingle

Friendship gone with night of bliss
enjoyed the friction and every kiss
but for each other just not meant
and a relationship now bent

Lost touch now,  and reminisce
how different life would be if this
had taken hold and not been a fling
wondering what life would bring

But now married with two kids
life is far from on the skids
Beautiful wife, now for years
story told only over beers
The story of a friends encounter with his childhood friend,

Happy Birthday
The Fire Burns Oct 2016
Happy birthday to my bride
you simply take the years in stride
ageless beauty you possess
simply better than the rest

I have no gift of sparkling gold
but my love can not be sold
it belongs to you forever more
and that does not come from a store

Words on paper from my mind
hope to tighten, ties that bind
let you know my heart stands clear
I love you, Happy Birthday Dear.

psilocybin and peyote
transport me to the spirit lands
where I commune
with father bear
mother eagle
and grandfather time embodied
as a Kodiak bear

They tell me of the past
and hint me the future
but mostly they tell me
of the now
and the pain
thoughts come to me like rain
memories form but not remembered

I awake, refreshed with new knowledge
that shapes my outlook and ideas

As Luna pulls upon the tides
my thoughts also ebb and flow
I am simply along for the ride
as neurons fire too and fro

Tinted window glass darkens Luna's face
her light kisses the shadows in my room
as I sit in the dark and listen to my heart race
worrying about things in life that I assume

Then she comes in and approaches
angelic, white gown glowing in the night
I simply stare, into my soul she encroaches
no more thoughts, just her in the moon light

Machismo Murdered
The Fire Burns Oct 2016
Wounded men at barstools
turn and watch her walk away
they try to play it cool
but their blood spurts to her hips sway

She held them up, cleavage for miles
dressed to the nines in her heels
shot them with her shotgun smiles
and laughs as they bleed and reel

Egos destroyed, she did not sit
just kept on walking by
now they wither bit by bit
as their machismo, slowly dies

The Dragon Riders
The Fire Burns Oct 2016
The swords of war put away
so we eat and drink today
our dragons are roosting now
we gave each of them a cow

Winning battles from the sky
we ride their backs as dragons fly
slashing swords at high speed
while piloting our noble steeds

When the enemy surrender refuses
we burn them all with dragon fuses
fiery breath from brimstone lungs
their screams are the last song sung

Our girls our ready with our mead
an epic poem of glory I'll read
and then a kiss at nights end
then off to bed so wounds can mend

Peripheral Vision
The Fire Burns Oct 2016
In the corners and inside rooms
I swear I see others loom
but when I stop and look once more
no one is there, not even hiding behind the door

Shadow men and full body apparitions
slide through the dimensional partition
to appear for a moment in my life
do they need help with their strife

I've seen them at home and many more at work
in hospital corners do many of them lurk
sometimes sitting at empty desks
you'd think in death they could just rest

At the edge of my vision is a door
I can see the universal core
The spirits flow like energy
or is my imagination getting the best of me.

Out the Doors I Ran
The Fire Burns Oct 2016
Carry me caravan, take me away
I quickly outran, so I could escape
to the crystal ship that's being filled with
A thousand girls, a thousand thrills
A million ways to spend your time

On board and safely to sea
the sunset is something to see
girls and drinks and gambling
don't mean that much to me
cause my soul is deviling

The one I love, I left on land
I am sure she walks the sand
of the beach looking out to sea
I hear her heart calling out to me
How I long to hold her hand

But for now I must lay low
the years, I'm sure, will go by slow
Perhaps she will wait for me
or maybe come and look for me
I love her, I hope she knows

Wave of Sadness
The Fire Burns Oct 2016
The sadness
wave crested,
over took me,
washed me
into the
sharp coral
of despair;
I began
to bleed.
The Fire Burns Oct 2016
The swirling sounds of white noise
rush into my senses, confusing,
neurons firing, I do not understand,
what they mean.

Inter-dimensional constructs
flutter past my eyes,
leaving streaking trails,
meteorites of imagination.

Cosmic expulsions,
solar flares,
set my magnetosphere
to glowing, moving colored lights.

Reaching out into the mist
spinning clocks and infatuation,
non-Newtonian fluid,
not quickly captured.

Experiences of the lifetime
flavor the person,
and pepper the interactions
with humanities whole.

Reminders and Missing You
The Fire Burns Oct 2016
But the moment never lasts
and leaves me wanting

I smell you in the perfumed breeze
of juniper and lilac
I feel you in the summer rain
cold, yet warming to the soul

Distance increases want
as I love you from afar
waiting patiently for your return
**** the pain, with moonshine from a jar

I taste you in the pinot grigio
served at dinner time
I sop gravy with crusty bread
with you on my mind

Car door opens and chimes
I come running out the door
scoop you in my arms
a kiss to make up for lost time
The Fire Burns Oct 2016
Nothing is owed to you
by basic fact of life
everything has a price
love, time, respect, things

If you want these then you must work,
as they cannot be freely given
at least not forever
You must earn them

Be honest and true to the ones you love
It may require sacrifices on your part
To get respect, you must first show respect
You must sometimes place others above you

You would like to spend precious time
Then act so it behooves one to do so
Material things are.not wild fruit, free to pick,
must give your work, time, love and respect

The piper must always be paid
So be ready for the price
Nothing is free to you
So let it be done

Numbness
The Fire Burns Oct 2016
I look upon the sky, after the funeral, just gray
the birds sing, but I simply hear the hum of white noise
laughing children cannot bring a smile
a lead balloon cannot float

Pins and needles, pain and then again, none
tears cried and dried, there are no more
feelings faltered, until just fade to black
emotions spent like last weeks check

Alone, but there is no sensation
I remain but I am just a shell
an empty cardboard box of my former self
heart is burning, yet I feel nothing

Does this define who a person is?
does it limit their thoughts?
can it determine what they will be?
is it self limiting?

Simply words as adjectives
words to describe
as we need to be able to do that

While people are equal in spirit
we are not cookie cutter creatures
and there is nothing wrong with that

Differences can be separating
Like birds of a feather flock together
They can also be celebrated and used
Learn from other peoples

Teach what you know
learn what they know
and combine to make
yourself and hopefully them
as well a better human

The Fiddler of Souls
The Fire Burns Oct 2016
Death propped up by lines and hopes
The fiddler plays despite docs dope
Say goodbye is his song
The inevitable won't take long

Deaths shroud, flutters in time
It's your last call, use the dime
As scrubs fade away, and doves appear
The fiddlers music becomes crystal clear

A solid beep, underscores his chords
A brief replay of life's awards
He leads me off, at a parades pace
It seems I've come, to the end of the race

Lines are cut, and the shroud covers
He embraces me, like a long lost lover
The music stops, have arrived at fate
Just outside, a rusty fence and gate

Evenings Rush Hour Beauty
The Fire Burns Oct 2016
Pastel palette paints the evening sky
as the rush hour traffic flies by.
Lemmings on the run,
do they notice the setting sun?

Brush strokes in orange and blue,
colors the sky in gorgeous hues.
The light posts, hold up the canvas
much like the shoulders of the god Atlas

Verdant green trees, silhouetted in black,
caress the sky, above the highways track.
The sign up says ahead my exit looms,
when I get home the primrose will bloom.

Out of the traffic, just a sliver of light,
a fading gem of the day, glowing bright
I watch it as darkness fall with no fright.
Then it winks out as day says goodnight

blow in from the north
the cool winds soothe
after the heat of summer

Days begin to get shorter

moving quickly back and forth

Changing of birds
White wing and Mourning dove
Ducks and geese of all kinds
migrate through to the south

Sandhill cranes,
honk loudly
announcing their arrival
and with them, the season changes

The Fire Burns Oct 2016
From whence do you hail?
how quickly did you set sail?
or did you ever leave at all?
maybe didn't have the gall?

If you left, did you look back?
or did you set off down the track?
did you leave somebody there?
do they know that you still care?

Have you returned to get away?
perhaps you went home to stay?
if so, did you enjoy the ride?
now you walk old streets with pride?

Are holiday travels your limit?
only there for quick visits?
do you continue on your stride?
from old friends, do you hide?

The answers define who you are,
whether you travelled near or far.
Experiences, life and decisions made,
whichever, all your options weighed

A Coin Flip
The Fire Burns Oct 2016

in extremes from love to rage
parabolic and diabolic

which can melt your heart
or berate you with words
that tears your world apart

Pillar of the community
donating heart and time
all while planning murders
in the back of my mind

A demon lives inside me
but most would never know
but every once in a while
his horns and teeth will show

I may cook you a feast, delicious
or scare the hell out of you, malicious
rollercoaster highs and lows
what's behind my door, open it to know

It may be something sweet
like jewelry or a treat
or something to be feared
like Hannibal Lectors' hello dear

From heavens highs
to lows from hell
what will it be

Make Your Own Way
The Fire Burns Oct 2016
One day I came across 2 paths in the wood
neither took my fancy, as they did not look too good
dark and foreboding, and filled with mocking crows
I turned and went back a ways to where the creek flows

I decide downstream, was the way to go
in evenings coming darkness, in the distance there a glow
I walked and walked the creek, till I came across a path
smoke and flames burned there, all consumed by fires wrath

Continuing down the creek bed, a very busy bridge
it seems someone had been murdered, there across the ridge
a single traveler attacked while walking all alone
down the lonely path, hit in the head with a stone

So the moral of this story, for choices you will pay
if you do not like the options, make your own way
do not simply do, what others have already tried
get outside of your box, the lid open you must

metaphysical pain, manifesting

My tongue a cat of nine tails

and even more so on my own soul

Out of control
uncomfortable in my own skin
my thoughts wearing thin
deep dead set eyes

a cold black spot where
my heart used to reside
rotted away over years

Trapped Tears
The Fire Burns Oct 2016
Behind a dam
emotions reservoir
their river has been trapped
due to pride or manliness

Sadness bottled up
anger, netted
love, expressed
but not to its full depth

Sinking slowly behind
the confines of his tears
his thoughts render
him helpless

So does the
burning bridges of
fears enacted by
masquerade's of his peers

Drowning now
in pent up tears
the dam needs to break
but does he dare

Staring at the vacant abyss
imitating stored feelings
not really knowing but,
pretending to care

Outflow of tears and emotion
obliterating the view of self,
washing away the wall
is he renewed or destroyed ?

Creatures blooming from the mind
crawl into this dimension
under the guise of teddy bears
hiding under beds
biding their time
waiting for their moment
to destroy

The witch will please your every need
as long as you're her slave
on your soul she needs to feed
run before an early grave

Your acid injected
I am digested
fed upon by your need
until I am no more.

Scars are the lessons
to be healed, but not fully
to remind us to be better
or try it a different way
next time

Perception is reality
even if it is a formality
living lies inside your head
blindfolded until your dead.

The sound of the scream
faded away
the searchers gave up the next day
Now just remembered in hopes and dreams

All sins have consequence
are you ready for the expense
I hope you have credit built
or you must deal with the guilt
