The churchyard was nearly full up
Just one vacant, desirable plot
When a hand-written sign appeared,
It's message to all crystal clear

This plot take note I've reserved it
For one in the parish who wholly deserves it
All Ten Commandments he has observed
And faithfully his community served
So here shall lie at the end of his life
Fred the cobbler and Gracie his wife

As word got round the village saw red
To a parish meeting they summoned old Fred
There are others who wish to lay there too
This plot does not belong to you

Finally all the arguments stopped
It was first come first served for the last plot
So Fred quit the pills, became very ill
And what he wanted he got

It
took me
losing everything
to finally realize how
much something as small
as a scrambled egg could make
a difference in the way
you look at people,
nature, things,
even joy

weary I come for touch
no judgement  no demand

amazed I feel myself
as I am
...
rising ready
again

I’m ready for revolution
there won't be no midnight Revere
but let me tell you, it’s coming
cause I’ve had just about too many nights
dreaming dreams that ain’t mine
I go to bed in hollow bird-bone shackles
dreaming the world is telling me to fly
but only South, cause that’s where I’ll be successful
...I know success is really flying North and coming out alive
so when I wake
I get a book for a pillow and a pencil paper night stand
cause I’ve just been thinking its my time to take a stand
so here I stand
fluttering limbs and a nervous system that’s **** nervous
but I’m here
for it’s time that I tell my story
it’s time that I know who I am
I am done sleepwalking in the dreams of others -
unconscious of my own conscience
this is my manifesto

to reclaim my crumpled dreams from a forgotten pocket,
to spread them out before me and point where I’m going to go

this is my manifesto
to forget about the past, and the future
to dance to good music
to tell a girl when she’s beautiful
and to have the courage to cry

this is my manifesto
to speak loud
run fast
to love hard
and to let go

for that is all I must do
let go of the placating promises that keep my dreams anchored in tomorrow
push off from the shore
and let the very current that courses through my veins
carry me out to sea
for there is an ocean.. waiting for me

an entire world in which I get to sail in whatever direction I please
so please, come with me
push off from the shore with your own manifesto at the helm
and we won’t sail together,
but when we pass, I’ll wave.
and you’ll wave too.
for we both know that the ocean is ours,
and we’re just dreaming after all

I AM BARBED WIRE

CHAIN LINK FENCE

COLD METAL ON COLD METAL

NOT LETTING OUT NOR LETTING IN

I RUN THE LENGTH BETWEEN

THOSE ON EITHER SIDE OF ME

I AM ELECTRIFIED

DANGER NOT CLEARLY SEEN

THERE IS NO GATE

WHERE I OPEN UP MY LIFE

JUST A BARBED WIRE CHAIN LINK FENCE

HIGHLY ELECTRIFIED

This is God and...

I see you straddling the fence

I see you with one foot in the stream

I see you calling me your Master

With the attitude of what's in it for me

I see you praise only when there's blessing
I see you with no mark upon your knees
I see you turning from your brother
When your brother is desperately in need

I see the dust that's on your Bible

I see you yawning in the pew

I see you passing judgment on my people

When your attitude is what is judging you

This is how the world views you as Christians
This is how you represent my name
How can you expect a dying world to listen
When they look at you and then themselves
*
And you appear to be one and the same

I sat down to write a meaningful love poem to you

I searched long and deep my heart

All I could come up with is this simple truth

I love you, just because

This girl, old so and so
Has an affair with what's his face
Every one in town knows about
Except for what's her name

This guy from somewhere or another
Shows up after years lost at sea
Everyone is so surprised
Except for...you know who I mean

In the middle as my stomach grumbles
I go to the store for a snack
Three days later I turn back on the tube
They're at the very same spot they were when I left

This little blind boy with his seeing eye dog
Is in a hospital bed with issues
I loudly exclaim these **** allergies
And run back to the store for more tissue's

This mystery man goes down in flames
In a fiery plane crash
Wouldn't you know, as soap operas go
Two days later the guy is back

That's about all I've gotten out of the soaps
As this week draws to an end
But come Monday midday, what can I say
They'll start all over at the same place again

Don't care much about the beginning
Just want a happy end
If I knew that you were leaving
I would have taken time to beg
Now I'm left with nothing
Out of nothing less
Than what it is I started with
Before it is you left

Out of all that I remember
Nothing is the same
The night is cold and bitter
When daylight takes the blame
Inside the steady glow of fire
Throws shadows on my face
Taking hold of memories
That once held warm this place

Don't care much about the beginning
Just want a happy end...
