Iceberg
Cold as ice
In arctic seas
Homeward bound
Before they freeze
Must maneuver
Through sleet and rain
Past big sharp icebergs
That slice and maim
The underbelly
Like a tin can
And sink their ship
Farewell, the end

The Fiddler
‪Soothing sounds ‬
‪From string and bow‬
‪Emanate a warmth and glow‬
‪Every cord of every note ‬
‪Is heard, but on a grander scope
‪It speaks straight to the heart‬
‪When moonlight is your audience
He felt a world apart ‬
But he’s ‪enamored by the music ‬
‪He’s ready to begin‬
On a rocky hill with ‪bow in hand
And with fiddle to his chin‬
His playing was subdued
A very catchy tune
Together with his harmony
It really set the mood
So he danced under the moon
The night air, he consumed
He was playing when the sun came up
And up until the afternoon

Red Riding Hood
Red leaves in the forest
Through the thickets comes
A hefty steed and a rider
In a red hood and red gloves
She was headed to her grandmas
To see if she was well
She didn’t live nearby
So it was hard for her to tell
She made it to her grandma
And everything was swell
But something wasn’t right
Grandma was much more hairier and smelled
And with a certain look
She saw grandma’s big teeth
And then she saw an arm
By the bed underneath
She looked up once again
And stared into its eyes
And said the hungry wolf
On such a big surprise
“The better to eat you with my dear”
And he leapt up and devoured
That poor girl; little red
So the story now is over
Because everyone is dead

Servant To My Solitude
I’m a servant to my solitude
Inwards is where I dwell
So far inside my body
It leads into the depths of hell
That is where I am most comfortable
It’s my peace of mind
I find comfort in disorder
It’s what gives me my drive
Not a thunderous ovation
In which two worlds collide
And coming through the aftermath
Is a reminder I’m alive

Broken Soul
A dangling head and a heavy heart
Head in lap, two worlds apart
Dealing with complexities
And what the world around her sees
Waiting for a passing breeze
To push her on the swing
Like her father used to do
On sunny days in spring
But that was just a dream
She’s hanging by a string
She never imagined what his loss could do
Or the anguish it would bring
The world around her still grows
Her weaknesses exposed
Swallowed up and spit back out
An empty broken soul

The Devils Blues
A simmering groove
A highly flammable beat
A smoldering dance
To rejoice with your feet
They played and they fiddled
It was an honor; a treat
They sang and you felt it
That band had some heat!
They had made a deal with the devil
And now wouldn’t you know
The devil was present, and in the first row!
They played and they played
Until their fingers bled
The sweat on their brow
Had them seeing red
But they played for the audience
They sang to the crowd
Then they looked at the devil
And they said proud and loud
“We can play fine without you
We don’t need you around”
The devil grew angry
And he opened the ground
Then pointed to hell
And said “that’s where you’re bound”
But the band kept on playing
And did not show fear
The devil was beaten
And at once, disappeared

Night And Day
They traveled on the circuit
A band called “Night and Day”
They were wild and eccentric
But man, you should’ve heard them play
They blew the roof off when on stage
The new sensation, latest rage
They played the night
Into the next day
Then they passed out in a field of hay
They woke from sleep and heard a tune
A string guitar and southern blues
They then knew that they had to go
To the next town to put on a show

My Shadows Silhouette
My shadow saw its silhouette
It scared him straight to life
He now goes by a different name
And is married, with a wife
On rainy days, I miss him
Or when darkness falls
Unless there is a light left on
Then, he’s on every wall

Art Critic
A vivid painted ocean scene
Spills onto the couch beneath
On to a plush red carpet floor
Doused and wet, more than before
There a puddle starts to form
A painted image of a storm
When lightning strikes, and the colors swirl
You’ll have to reevaluate your world
Art is every where you look
But be careful what you buy
It shivered till it no longer shook
You sure do have an eye

Wild Gales
The night sky is overwhelming
If you consider the details
An infinity of stars
And constellation tales
Sailing on the ocean
No wind to push our sails
To march with rudening madness
On the tails of wild gales

Perfectly Persevered
When he was reserved
He got what he deserved
Now all he has are memories
Perfectly preserved
He could pick them out
Of the faces in the crowd
He’d like to tell you more
But what he’d do is not allowed
So he carries on
He goes about his day
In constant contemplation
Of throwing a grenade

In Cahoots
The moon is in cahoots
With the sun and stars
Also with Uranus, Jupiter, and Mars
The shimmer in the stream
Is for poetry and dreams
Planets in our galaxy
Share a certain theme
All the stars stand out
Regardless of their shine
I know yours and mine
Will stand the test of time

Bedtime
My pillows are clouds
That I sink into at night
Feathers and cotton
Mixed together just right
Into a slumber
I solemnly slip
And enter a dream land
Of adventures and trips
A graceful transition
When the time comes to wake
On pillows of comfort
For a much needed break

Caught In A Lie
She had a tear in her eye
Her lips parched and dry
His hands were red as a ruby
He’d been caught in a lie
Yet, he tried to deny
That he wasn’t in love with another young beauty
Her anger was just
Lost over lust
As if a plot to her own twisted movie
She believed in their trust
It was an absolute must
Now going forward, she’ll have to be more choosy

Bark Facade
Under the cover of the tall elm trees
A hallow path is set
To walk through and be guided
Without certain harm or threat
The path is dark and dingy
With echoes haunting sound
Bouncing off the bark facade
Of every tree around

Your Choice
To the right
A future
Of stunts and escapades
To the left
“The known path”
Fair since the time of the crusades
Your choice is not of good or evil
Or what you stand to lose
Neither one is more deserving
But it’s still your choice to choose

Runneth Deep
There’s no time for sleep
When emotions runneth deep
And when emotions get the best of me
I can’t control the beat
Of the thumping in my chest
I grow weary, I confess
Of situations I detest
Both with and without stress

Happy Alone
No one makes me any sandwiches
When I sit around at home
There’s many disadvantages
Living life alone
The peace is worth it’s weight in gold
That much I’ll say is true
And I love that no one ever questions me
Or tells me what to do

Alone In The Dark
He had the need to lead
The alpha of the pack
Vicious, mean, and angry
But dependable, in fact
He was hungrier than most
With a bite to match his bark
He’s not someone you’d like to meet at night
Alone in the dark

By The Creek
Around the bend, down by the creek
Are a multitude of ducks and geese
Gathered around by sunsets peak
Golden skies without words to speak
Just picturesque silhouettes
Before the day is through
And a healthy appreciation
Of my panoramic view

Put On A Leash
Bullets fly and stain the grass
With the blood of the deceased
Battle cries while ending lives
Yet they don’t practice what they preach
Profiled, then exiled
Forget your freedom of speech
You’ve been sized up
And *******
Then put on a leash
It wasn’t long before I was lost
Even though I had the address
It’s the reason why I broke out in hives
The essence of my stress
When I turned the corner
The streets looked all the same
And it seems I was on the only street on earth
That doesn’t have a name

I Can’t Save Us
Her words spoke volumes
They caused a fuss
Those haunting words
“I can’t save us”
It’s powerlessness
It’s a burden we all share
Flashing glimmered hope
Fades into thin air
The powers that be
Are consciously aware
Even after bloods been shed
They still don’t seem to care

‪Extended for astonishment ‬

‪As the legend goes‬
‪The water purifies the heart‬
‪And rejuvenates the soul‬
It’s for the releasing of oneself ‬
‪And giving up control‬
And for the sanctity of inner peace
As the legend grows
Surrounded by seclusion
Hidden from our sights
A beauty seen only in dreams
Asleep late at night

Music To My Ears
She’s a bona fide composer
With melodies and songs
She’s musically inclined
Though she hasn’t been here long
Her words come from the heart
Harmoniously in tune
She’s off to a fast start
As you can never start too soon
A prodigy on epic scale
A maven beyond her years
A set of high tone vocal chords
That’s music to our ears

Skin Deep
Beauty is only skin deep
Her eyes closed for her beauty sleep
The counting of white leaping sheep
She’s strong, but emotionally weak
I question every time that she speaks
Her promises, she never keeps
Yet she stands on manicured feet
Quietly, proud, and discrete

Leopard Spots
Lying in the trees
Behind the leaves and shrubs
A feline leopards spots
And her two fresh spotted cubs
Lying in wait, but always alert
Not thinking of dinner, but what’s for dessert
A feathery pheasant?
Perhaps just might do
To pluck from the sky
From whence it once flew

Drops Of Acid
She dissolved from drops of acid
Through the rabbit hole she fell
Her mind filled with pollution
Not quite how the storytellers tell
She was woken from a vivid dream
Shocked enough not to scream
Spotted, but never before seen
In this state of her confusion
She didn’t want to rock the boat
Still upstream without a float
Hanging there with every note
Listening for her ballad

Preconceived Notion’s
Separated to her own detriment
And a yearning for her man
Her thoughts are all consuming
Still she fails to understand
The nature of the forces
For the powers that be
She’ll harbor her resentments
For an eternity
As to why he had to go
Why he had to leave
He simply went to work
But still she aches and grieves
She cannot bear detachment
She can hardly breathe
She’s in love without her lover
With notions preconceived

When The Details Fade
Longing for the understanding
Of the evanescence of our dreams
Why memories slip away so soon
Or is that just the way it seems?
What was the color of the sky that day?
As the details tend to fade
Was it the coming of a storm
Or an aesthetic serenade?

Stirring The Pot
We stir the *** of contemplation
We simmer through and through
Together, with fresh ingredients
We concoct a hardy stew
To be served with a cocktail
Possibly a few
Then we take a bite, with pure delight
And begin to slowly chew

Our Bravado
Our bravado with our fists on hips
The patriotic stance
An image of a hero
That fails with every chance
The people I looked up to
Where freedom was enhanced
Ignored by all that turned their backs
As if they’re in a trance
Fixated on a notion
Down the beaten path
That nobody’s agreed upon
But life comes at you fast

Rehabilitated?
Release is near approaching
Counting down the days
To be free and be redeemed
For the weak in which he prayed
He’s no longer stuck in his old ways
His mind is clear of sin
At least he’d have you think
As he says so with a grin 😈

My Diary
I keep my secrets in my diary
With words unspoken and unseen
I piece together outcomes
The way I think they ought to be
But mostly I write down my thoughts
To get things off my chest
Then I contemplate what comes next
And try to figure out the rest

A community of artists
Creatively unique
They rival any artists
With their precision and technique

They’re masters of their craft
They’re healthfully consumed
They love to paint the ceilings

Dead And Gone
A tear falls from her eye
Thoughts racing in her mind
Pleading to the sky for mercy
Her lovers now passed on
He taught her to be strong
Now she only drinks her wine
when she is thirsty
This helps to ease her pain
For the feelings that remain
A broken heart is still worthy of a mending

The Performance
A thunderous ovation!
He bowed down to the crowd
It lasted for a minute
The crowd was very loud
He stood there with conviction
His performance was elite
In the role in which he played
A liar and a cheat
There was no room for error
So he rendered it complete
As he smiled at the roses
Gathered by his feet

The Alternative
Counted on, but don’t come through
Stuck in just one point of view
Never sure of what to do
To justify the means
Mind is racing, spinning wheels
We’ll never know the pain he feels
The alternative, has less appeal
And doesn’t come with laughter
Only tears and big regrets
Not knowing where to place his bets
He constantly wonders why he let
His loved one get away

The Colors Of The Sky
So pleasing to the eye
Are the colors of the sky
Bouncing off the clouds
In an incandescent light
Bound to earn their worth
In heaven and on earth
Without even a question as to why
We accept it and move on
Before the clouds are gone
And the sun comes out again for its reply
Then settle under shade
With sips of lemonade
And wave up to the clouds to say goodbye

Big Smile
You’ve eclipsed my expectations
You’ve opened up my eyes
What I believed before, is no more, to my surprise
Your grace under pressure
Your fortitude and drive
You’ve exceeded every notion, of what it takes to be alive
I commend your motivation
Your inspiration, and pride
Your willingness to carry on, when you’ve been denied
You’re open to adapt
Despite your being shy
You’ve answered every question with a smile, big and wide

End Of The Rope
I’m struggling, trying to stay afloat
It’s been on my mind, what you said, the last time that we spoke

And tie a knot, with all I’ve got, at the end of my own rope

The astronaut had landed
First foot to touch the ground
He planted his flag
He’d constantly brag
And he’d walk around town pretty proud
But that was back then
And today is today
And no further progress
Has ever been made
It’s such a shame
But he’s not to blame
He did all that he could, if not more

My imaginary friend
Who’s looked after me ever since I was a child

In a strange turn of events
I picked up and I left
On a secret journey of forgotten tears

Solidarity
I pray the day will never come
When I somehow cannot smile
Being undisturbed
Conflicts not my style
But it’s true I haven’t had a good fight in a while
So I scrummage up some courage
That I had many years back when
And I stand in solidarity
With whom many I call friends
I’ll fight for your freedom
As I hope you would fight for mine
We’re together in this battle
And together we’ll be fine
They rambled on and babbled
Although I’ve ciphered out the code
It’s all just interference
Meant to keep it tempered; slowed
The signal’s getting weaker
Yet, I still made out a verse
It had to do with outer space
And blowing up the earth!

Christmas In June?
We crafted out of snow
A man of seven feet
A carrot for his nose
His eyes were two small beets
We used raisins for his smile
Two sticks for his arms
He donned a scarf and top hat
As if to keep him warm
He was given last a corn pipe
So he looked debonair
Needless to say, on this special day
There’s Christmas in the air
