Two things we know
about Janet Aitch
She won't have a poem
and she's always late

but the sharing we give
of laughter and pain
give her something to write on
and we have her back again

“The square on the hypotenuse
is equal to the sum of the squares
on the other two sides”
I look at the triangle
and ponder the meaning
of that strange word hypotenuse
my skin getting goosebumps
and my breath all excited
when I should be applying the rule
to the problem
the geometry teacher
expects me to solve

I unwillingly awakened
far too early
and birds were singing

A smidgen  of snow
slows everything
To a slithering stop

"I do tree root climbing"
"I fell from a hedge"

Sunshine
shows dust
right where you know
you just dusted

Subtle changes
in green of leaves
heralds
autumn's
vibrant splendour

We all had dreams
and plans
to travel to far away lands
but then came Covid 19
so who now knows
what that might mean ?
Our plans
may become our dreams

Raspberries
glow enticingly
in the hedgerow
Pity about the nettles

Who was she?

An observed word
infrequently heard
can isolate
or implicate
the visionary
thin with worry
in a dastardly plot
which will get him shot

I sat on my glasses
It didn't improve
my vision

Here we have for you
a happy birthday haiku
without more ado

Work ethic
keeps me busying
doing, doing
impressing
my conscience

I gave up a committee
and got back my me

Problem?
Solution?
Yes!
Why worry?

Problem?
No solution?
Why worry?

Sometimes
ideas spring up
eager to become poems
Today -
desert

Group leader's away
Group will play
in verse
or worse

This snowman melted
though he struggled very hard
against the sun's rays

6 am
A bird sings
He likes getting up
I should

Email arriving
saying "You're missed"
Energised, warmed
Started me giving

No
But
No buts
Why
Because I said so
But..

I sing of a black hole
an emptiness or a void
in the indescribable blaze
of a dying star
In a minute it is gone
and I have no more words
for my song

Leicester in lockdown
as the virus flares
just as the clouds
had a silvery edge
Those xyz foxes
zoomed into the henhouse
leaving hens headless
and us all in gloom

Blueberry Friday
today adds fancy biscuits
Breaking tradition

Trains cross russet moors
forests ravines waterfalls
in scenic splendor

When I was a teenager
I thought
twenty was old
thirty was ancient
and forty was
positively prehistoric

'Message send failed'
Heads together
Try again
'Message sent '
Cheers!

"I'll ring you back"
I called back
She meant Monday

Got up early
Am out of sync
Wish I hadn't

Knit and natter
Waste of time
No!
Finished my knitting

Green is calming
Imagine a world
of red
instead
