Burned Out Passion
James M Vines Apr 2015
Fire burning passion bright, flame of a hungry soul. Oh how you consume me and drive me mad with lust for the one thing I can never hold. Once I knew beauty and I though I was in love. Her smile was like yellow roses covered in morning dew. She could bring me to the height of desire and cool me with the gentlest touch. My soul would ache to know her love, I would sacrifice to make her mine. Then she flew away and left me empty inside. The passionate fire burned out in my hungry soul. Leaving me mad with desire for the thing I cannot hold. I wailed in torment at her leaving, knowing that I can only feel cruel endless pain. Once you have tasted love so deep, you may never want to love again.

Addicted To Speed
James M Vines Jun 2016
Running down the highway at 100 plus, leaving a trail of burnt asphalt and smoke is just not enough. Jumping off of a mountain top, plummeting towards the earth, popping the chute and feeling the ****. Racing a power boat down a river and out to sea. There is not much left for me. My drug of choice is something I need. It can't be bought, because I am addicted to speed.
James M Vines Jun 2016
There is a battle raging that often goes unseen. It is between the forces of heaven and hell, with lost souls as the causalities. The battle is not for everyone, but when God does give a call. He calls for a solider to fight and to give their all. The battle is not won by the swift or the strong. That is not what Gods wants in a solider at all. He seeks out someone who will be humble but have strength. He wants those who have conviction and will not easily become faint. He demands the up most loyalty and sometimes you may think you are fighting alone. In this you must be patient, because the greater plan cannot always be seen. God ask just do your part and leave the rest to him. Once you have fought your fight, you will see how the battle was won. Not by acts of savagery, with a sword or a gun. The fight was taken to the enemy by showing compassion and love, for the battle is the lords to fight from his heavenly throne above. With legions of angel armies at his beckon call, sometimes God simply needs a Christian solider, to come and answer the call.

My Love in Winter
James M Vines Aug 2017
We are both unique like two snowflakes yet we merge and come together like the winter. The cold is joined to the season as we are joined to each other. When we are together our passion sparkles like the glistening of new formed ice drops on barren trees. We dance as snow swirls that are blown up by the wind. We are content as a wild Hare safe in it's lair. Our love is miraculous like a clear winter sky where all of the stars can be seen. What a wonder I have found in you, my perfect match, the keeper of my soul, the love I know in winter.

The Latter Rain
James M Vines Jan 2016
There has been a long dry season. A drought has been in place. My spirit is thirsty and my soul is an arid waste. I have walked in the parched landscape and planted many seed. I have watched for clouds of spiritual refreshing to come. Now the season of trial and sewing has ended and the growth has begun. Soon the harvest will be at fullness, lord please let it now come. Let fall the anointing, let that which has been sewn prosper and give gain. Oh lord refresh our soul through the abundance of the harvest. Lord send us the latter rain.

the wino on the corner
James M Vines Dec 2017
I drive by the same street each and every day. On the corner there stands a man as happy as he can be. His clothes are torn and ragged and it looks like he could use a good meal. Yet he always smiles and waves Yet he always smiles and waves, every time that I go by. I pulled over to the side one day when I saw him drinking from a paper bag. I rolled down my window and said that must be some really good stuff. He just laughed and smiled and said once it was never enough. He reached in the bag and pulled out a bottle of water you see. He then smiled a little more as he walked closer to me. He said I used to be a wino and I didn't give a care. I would drink almost anything and I will sleep just about anywhere. But then one day I met a beggar and he told me about a man he meant by the sea. He said from that minute forward, he was forever changed just like me. So I asked him if you don't drink then why are you on the street? He said I want to share my happiness with everyone I meet. That beggar was once a wino and was lost just like me but he showed me the way to Jesus and I no longer have to drink you see. In a moment of stunned silence, I just found the strength to smile I drove away confused but only for a little while. I pull over to the side of the road again and my tears begin to flow because I knew that wino had a peace that I had never known. I surrendered my heart to Jesus right then in there. I then one on my way where I had lost all my cares. One day I heard that wino, had quietly passed away. So so now I'm taking his place as I go along my way. I'm not standing on a street corner in ragged and torn up close, but I share what he shared with me everywhere I go.

Statuesque and curvy, ample in the right places. Seductive and foreboding, with hair that is full of highlights or dark streaks depending on my mood. Skin soft as satin and eyes the color that suits my  mood. I draw you into my web of desire. You willingly surrender to my wiles and are a willing party to my seduction. Sin is of no thought to you right now. In the proper pair of shoes, that accentuate my body, I surrender to you as a garden of earthly delights. Any pleasure you could desire I can give you. A soft warm touch, with painted nails. Full colored lips like the warning of a deadly butterfly. You seek to possess me and to show others what they cannot have. I am forbidden fruit and delicious to taste. I am ****** and all the things you desire me to be.

The Switch
James M Vines Sep 2015
Everything has a button, or what some call a switch. I am no exception. As a child I found that my switch was used often, when I would not listen or behave. My grand mother would pluck it from a Peach Tree or any available bush. Sometimes the switch would make me go fast and sometimes it would make me go slow. Sometimes it would make me run in circles and others just roll around on the floor. The switch was not pleasant, but when my switch was tripped, I would always have a reaction, as it corrected me for what I did wrong.

Autum Song
James M Vines Oct 2015
My eyes see planted fields ripe to harvest. Fall rows of corn an cotton glisten on a frosty southern morning. As I walk, I hear echos of past and sweet memories. Familiar shadows are cast by timeless beauty that does not change, held in the colored trees of Autumn. I hear the sounds of memories that are echoed in creeks and streams where as a young boy I found joy playing childish games. The spirits of the waters are too wild to tame. As I walk the old paths of childhood, I see these things in memories that bring Autumn's song back to me

In The Forest
James M Vines Oct 2016
The light of the sun comes down in chutes of gold as it finds it's way between the branches of giants. The ancient trees stand as sentinels reaching to the sky and marking time of everything that happens around them. Lesser plants adorn the forest floor and share space as each reaches for the golden rays of light. Ferns sit side by side with Blueberry plants as they grow silently in the shadow of the trees. Well worn trails can be seen between the sparse vegetation running between the might trees too and froe. If you sit on a rock and watch quietly, you may catch a glimpse of a fawn drinking from a cool stream as it winds it's way through a gully or rocky bed onward to the sea. A few moments in the heart of nature gives a soul perspective and lets you relate to how much a part of the world you really are.

If I give someone a dollar, and they buy something to eat. They will not be hungry. If I pray for someone and God blesses them, they may prosper and help another. If I show a stranger kindness, then they pass it on, a chain of humanity is formed. In all of these things there are unseen effects to the simplest of things that we can do for one another.

Life lays in shattered pieces, pottery to be returned to the dust. Dreams have fallen by the wayside, old pursuits have come to nothing. Sitting among the ruins of things once hoped for, I look up to heaven and ask what is next. I do not know where to go from here or what road I must take. I sit idly and contemplate all of these things. I wait on the Lord and hold my peace, waiting for him to guide me.

In situations that seemed all but hopeless, I have seen Gods glory in the most amazing ways.

Let me out I want to play, no I have to work today. Eighty hours this week alone, I am not sure when I will be back home. I fight with myself in this grown up rat race. All my inner self wants to do is play. At the end of a decade I see the wear and worry. Lines in my forehead and lines in my face. It is time for us to switch place. So I let the inner child come out and play. We get to work on time and leave early once in a while. I see the world in a different light that I used to do. I wonder why it took so long for me to let you back in control. If we let our inner selves out more often, perhaps it would be a better place to live and play.

Angels Ballet
James M Vines Dec 2015
Standing on clouds with wings spread apart, circling above the earth silhouetted by moonlight, beings of majestic form spiral downwards then back up again. Like shades of a form filled with the purest light, they fly across the sky, transcending the earthly realm. Images cast on silver clouds and shadows shown upon the earth. They wind their way over the water and let their wake stir up frothy waves. Sailing back high into the clear night sky against a back drop of the starry host. They shimmer and glow singing a chorus as soft as morning dew. In a wonderful display of other worldly agility, they bring comfort to all who happenstance to see them. Then as quickly as they took to their cloudy stage, they fade into the morning light as wisp of smoke that fade from a child's dream. Leaving only the memory of angels in flight that danced with joy through the heavens for a fleeting moment in time.

Giving For God.
James M Vines Apr 2016
Once I was headed home and there was a car that was broken down, it was very hot and one of the two women said she was thirsty. I took a moment to go buy her some water and return to her. I gave her the simple gift and went on my way. One cold afternoon I was buying a coffee and I saw that the person serving me was sad. I asked her if I could help, she said she had lost her wedding ring and could not find them anywhere. I prayed for her and gave her kind words. The next time we happened to meet, she was glowing with happiness, she showed me the ring that had been found and I was happy for her. I went on my way and have done such small things in other instances through out my life. In all of the small things, I now understand that there is no thing to small when giving for God.

What Will You Sacrifice
James M Vines Nov 2015
What will you offer, what would you give? To save the life of another, what is it worth. In many ways one can serve and be courageous! Not all persons serve the same way. Some will wield a sword and bear a shield, others will read a book to a child. Still others will heal and mend the sick. While still others seek to save the lost and the disenfranchised. In all efforts the goal is the same, standing with courage and conviction to the same end. To help others in their own way. With a willingness to offer themselves up in stead of another, there are willing to give away a part of themselves in order to accomplish their goal. With this testimony they are willing to give something away, what will you sacrifice?
The photo of myself standing by a weapon of war is what I was willing to sacrifice. Some may not agree with my service, but at that particular time, I was training so that what I was taught might never be used. Unfortunately that is not always the case. I was and am still willing to offer my life to protect my country and my fellow citizens. What will you sacrifice?

Visiting Day
James M Vines Dec 2016
I want to look pretty for my time with my daddy. I want to make everybody happy. As we walk up to the building with the high fences and the tall towers, I think it looks like a castle. The tall man with the keys talks to mommy and lets us past the gate. We have to put our stuff through a big humming box, then we have to wait. I hear a buzzer go off and we walk through another door. We get our name tags and sit and wait some more. Finally we are taken down a long hall, we walk across the shiny floors and between dark walls with no paint, they are just gray. Out a small window I can see more fences and tall towers, mother motions me to come on. Finally we enter a cold room with more shiny floors, the chairs are made of plastic and there is a mean lady at the door. She doesn't smile, she only turns her key, then rattles them as she takes us to our seat. After we wait some more, my daddy finally walks in. I reach out to hold him and he hugs me and puts me down again. We sit down and we talk or at least he and mommy do. I just sit and smile just like I always do. Soon we get some cookies and a drink from a machine. Then we sit and talk some more, until its time to leave. Daddy has to leave first, then mom and I walk away. I wave at him as he looks back with tears and I wonder why he always cries this way. We go back out the way we came in as I hear the last gate close. I wonder why daddy lives in a castle and he can never visit us at home?

Where Does Beauty Lie

If you see something that you find different is it ugly or pretty to you. If you see someone that is different, how do you judge their worth? If someone does not have the traits that are attractive to you, are they unpleasing to see. Where does beauty lie? Is it inside of a person or a thing. Something that might be an ugly rock can be polished into a beautiful gem. A person who is awkward at one point might be graceful at another. Where does beauty lie?  Is there a set scale that truly measure it, or are there many things that must be accounted for? Where does beauty lie?

What Shall Mercy Gain
James M Vines Jan 2016
If I offer compassion to those that hate me, what will it accomplish? If I find the hopeless and give them kindness, what will that achieve? To give of myself and my wealth to those that have nothing, will it change a thing? If you believe in nothing then the answer is no, but if you believe in something, then yes there will be a gain. For mercy begets other kindness, though you may not see it. Though the one to whom you are merciful may not be grateful, the act of being merciful is seen by others. When your actions makes another rethink their actions and deliberate what they believe. Then a change can begin to take hold. Evil can be undone from with in. A cruel ideology can be reevaluated. One lowly person can accept your actions as a different way to live. Thus a repeating of what you have done, is what mercy shall gain.

In all they do some of it is a fantasy and some is of no real consequence. Our values have become misplaced and we do not recognize true Hero's . When a building is ablaze and a fireman answers the call. When there is an accident and an officer is on the scene. When in the wee hours of the morning a doctor or nurse is on call. Building A Road
James M Vines Apr 2016
I took a moment to look around and see what was wrong in the world. I took out a shovel and began to dig through the confusion and the lies. I broke ground on a new path that no one had dared take. I cleared away the debris and smoothed out the rough patches. Along the way, I fell into a few potholes and got blocked at some critical turns. Despite the set backs and obstacles, I walked forward anyway. After years of struggling to clear a path, I looked back and saw that I had only gone a few yards. The ground beneath my feet was hard and the way ahead was filled with a lot of clutter. What I hadn't noticed, was that I was no longer alone. Behind me were more people who saw what I had done. One by one they came up and joined me. Finally I was bent over with age and weary from the fight, but many more were willing to continue on. I handed my shovel to someone I thought I could trust and found a place to sit down for a while. It was then that I realized what I had accomplished. I saw the path I had made, both wide and smooth. Though the ground was still hard ,the way had been made clear. Now that others could see the direction that needed to be taken, many were willing to help me build a road.

When they fail
James M Vines Feb 2021
The world is being torn apart like a jigsaw puzzle thrown out of the box by an angry child. A few are trying to overcome the many by putting them inside a cage. It is if they want chaos instead of order. Trying to contain a free thing, they forget that there are consequences for their actions. They are attempting to push a square stone up a hill only to have it slide backwards again and again. They keep trying the same foolish thing expecting to receive a different results. Despite their best efforts, they will inevitably fail. You cannot control that which doesn't wish to be controlled. It always ends in tragedy that will be recorded by a poet or writer in a Sonnet that will soon be dismissed as a fantasy, while another group finds a new way to fail at what has been tried before. From the first moment we set out on our own, we begin a journey of learning. While we may think that we are the student, the exact opposite is actually true. Though we may have much to discover, and many lessons to learn. There is always someone behind us in need of guidance and direction. When we master something, even the ability to care, we become teachers to others when we share what we have learned. If you show someone how to help and smile, a lesson has been taught. Being kind in the face of adversity can be a lesson passed on without even our being aware. There are so many things that each of us knows, and our actions make us teachers for good or ill. So it is up to us to give the object lessons that we ourselves would want others to teach us. By doing so, we are teachers.

Who could be calling at this insane hour. Through blurry eyes, I look at the clock and it shines a bright red, blazing the time of 11:00 AM. I roll over with my feet dangling off of the edge of my bed. I hear a marching band and bells ringing in my head. What did I have to eat last night, oh yes nothing I am on a liquid diet. One beer then another before moving to a few shots, then by 10:00 PM it was Peppermint Schnapps and one shot from between the ******* of a fair hair maid. Will some one turn off the sun, I want to stay in bed. I don't really remember I think I called in sick. If not then tomorrow I will get a tongue lashing but for right now I feel sick. I know I shouldn't have indulged so much, but I thought you could handle it when you are young. I guess I missed some portion of the manual on having fun. I lurch forward off of my bed. My feet some how find the floor and I stumble into things. I find the bathroom and turn the shower on, the water is really cold but it makes me yelp in shock, only to remind me of the banging in my head that will not seem to stop. Ode to my hang over.

Then the molten liquid is poured into the earthen mold. It cools slowly until it is bright glowing Orange. Then the master smith picks up his hammer as his apprentice holds the fiery billet in place. The sound of the bell chimes each time the hammer falls, striking against the hot burning metal. The chorus is performed and then repeated. Each time the fire heats the metal, and each time the hammer falls. The imperfections are driven out and the smith's hand begins to draw out the soul of the metal. From iron to steel the metal is formed. Taking shape with the hand of the master wielding the hammer, until that which was buried in the heart of the earth begins to glisten and shine. With each step that which was formless gains an edge. Sharpness is drawn out of the metal until the blade appears. Waiting for the hand of the person who will wield it and call it their own.

What Is Love
James M Vines Oct 2016
How do you describe desire and how do you define love. What form does it take, and what is the evidence of it's existence. Is love the passion between two people or is it perhaps sacrifice? Is love and expression of selflessness or the act of giving comfort and caring. Perhaps it can best be described as all of these things and more. It is a metamorphic thing that is not confined to one definition of mortal existence. Devotion can often go beyond death as one person longs for another. Love is not finite as one person can love man with a selfless act or man people can love one person with gifts of kindness and mercy. So love is ever evolving and changing, into many things from one thing, then returning to it's origins again.

Death whispers to me
James M Vines Apr 2018
I sit idle against the wall and look out a dingy window. In my ear I hear a small voice, it says I told you my way is easier. I shake my head and close my eyes only to see darkness flooded with pail colorful dots that look like the prelude to an old movie. Then images flood in of past mistakes and wrong turns. I try to move but I lack the strength. I open my eyes again and the voice says, it is inevitable. I look at my arm filled with track marks and see a spent needle in the corner. I can feel my heart beating faster as I begin to float away. I roll over and climb onto my bed as best I can. Looking up at the ceiling, I hear the faint whisper say just a little more. As I begin to become lost in a dream, I hear the whisper become a roar. I hear the rush of my blood coursing through my veins, the thundering of my heart, thump, thump thump, then the deafening silence. Suddenly, I see the whisperer reaching out to me. The cold dark fingers grasping my life and pulling it away from my body. Then a blinding white light fills my eyes and I feel the lightning rush through my chest. My veins are on fire as the doctor puts the injection in. The silences is gone as I watch the dark hand fade back into the nothingness. Death whispers to me, perhaps not yet, but I have time to wait.

The Land Of Imagination
James M Vines Jan 2016
Rivers flow over green stones as Unicorns dance around fairy enclaves. Rows of rainbows adorn the mist cast up by the silver water hitting the rocks. Trees with gold leaves sway in the warm breezes. Gnomes harvest mushrooms and scurry back to their holes before they are seen by prying eyes. Blue and Purple fish swim in the river jumping in and out of the water. Elves dash from tree limb to tree limb hunting for secret treasures hidden by Leprechauns, after they stole it away from some horrible troll. Magic reigns over the land where imaginations play. In the dark blue sky, 3 moons rise replacing the two suns. One is Jade Green, one is Ruby Red and one is Pail Blue. Each greater than the last. Night falls as White and Silver star light shines down. Tired eyes find rest after the day of imagination. They sleep dreaming of Unicorns and fairies as soft white clouds surround them. Until it is time to wake and play in the imagination again.

A life of love with you
James M Vines Apr 2018
The air smells sweeter when you are with me. Food taste better because you always want me to try new things. The earth beneath my bare feet gives me new sensations because you say that shoes get in the way. Your way of looking at life gives me hope for tomorrow. Each moment I lie with you I feel life forming between us. To become part of you and to see you nurture a creation that we have made is beyond amazing. Nothing is better than a life of love with you.
