Much like the sea
in tales told by weary mothers
hoping to frighten their children into obedience,
you should never mistake my placid surface
for a sign of safe waters.
This apparent stillness belies the amount of danger
you will not know that you are in
until I have risen from the depths with teeth gnashing
(sharp and charged with purpose)
to rend the life from your unexpecting wretched body.
I will ****** you from the shore,
I will shred the skin from your chest
and **** the air from your lungs
before the water has a chance to creep in
and suffocate you
from the inside.
Much like the sea
in tales told by weary mothers
hoping to frighten their children into obedience,
there are beasts within me
and they lie in wait.
