Gin
Two fathers
In black and white
Sit
Talking.

About daughters
And sons,
Dark clandestine robes
Billowing next to

Gravel oceans:

Eyes glazed over
At shadows
That drown.
The most beautiful temple.
Royal Road slopes

enough so that your toes know

which way you are going.

Kudzu and ragweed accent the driveway

pitted with bushel basket size

holes amid roaming plastic grocery bags.

     A 1960’s version mobile home

fights Mimosa and blackberry bush

to remain visible.

As I ascend the creaking steps

a neighbor cracks the quiet

to announce that, “Jesse is on the way.”

I hear the clop, swish, clop

as Jesse corners onto Royal Road

and chugs toward me.

     Sweat rivers from his beard.

He greets me with,

“Thanks for the groceries.”

I said, "I need you to sign

to show I brought food."

I didn’t ask, “How did you lose your leg?”
Your eyes
Drew me in:

Large pingpong *****
With brown diamonds
Embedded in the center.

When you smiled,
I remembered not how your mouth curved,
But how your eyes
Brightened.

Even then I could tell you were a little delicate-

Okay a lot more delicate
Than you would let on, and

That your soul always forced its way out of you.
I will not write a love poem...I will not write a love poem...I will not write a love poem...
I felt an unusual twinge in my neck
as I turned toward you.

Heavy breathing signaled morning sleep
as my arm reached across your palpitating belly.

These casual cuddles, typical of the start of our day
emit a warmth unlike sunrays or furnace heat.

No use to wake you or tease apart your legs
for seldom do we play.

That may come after morning news is devoured,
bananas peeled and different morning hungers eased.

Now i rise to consume small pellets of brown, pink,
grey and white chemicals compounded to keep me alive.

There is a stillness downstairs with greetings from a well-worn chair
contoured to support my soul.

Blades whirl overhead churning a breeze
my face accepts upon my forehead.

Now is my time of meditation, my attempt to
listen to whatever god pervades this universe.

There will be no answers, no jolts of insight or revelations,
only small particles of peace to cover my disquiet.

You will lumber down steps with effort accentuated by creaks
and moans that are more pronounced each day.

Our lips will touch confirming both obligation and willingness
to walk beside each other.

I wonder if you think there could be more?
Could each gaze toward one another be longer?

Could I unbutton myself enough to see or would you scold me
for such an unrepressed display?
Such a. . .
Simple world in which you place your question
The one time you had ears perk up to listen
You had mentioned bodies (bodies)
Bodies. . .
Would you learn if I cut your lips for you?
Would you
stop, stop, stop or continue. . . if

You read all the spineless lines
spineless staring up so sad
from a page in the rain left fading fast?
I was really trying to work out another verse for this, but it's not coming to me, so I figure this is what was meant to be for now. For now. . .MWUAHAHAHAHA.

The moon pointed the way down that road
It lit up the desert landscape and showed all the paths
The end result i wish it showed
Save me mistakes from karmas raw wrath

This journey has been filled with the Ups & downs
But man id do it again on a second or third chance
Never been afraid of any fight for title crown
This misery of life is the true romance

Drugs, alcohol whatever it takes
It's not numbing is a way to lead a life
I'm so real this life ain't no fake
But come to close and itll cut u like a knife
"CONDEMNED" screams the offensive yellow tape
wrapped around my door like a furious snake.
I'm a crumbling abandoned city apartment
and the letters of your name can be found carved into my scattered bricks.

The memories we shared were sweet,
but you've moved on now. To a newer part of town,
all gaudy gold and glowing neon and soulless silver.

Even though you're hypnotized by its fraudulent shine
I wonder whether you remember
the love and mortar that once held us together.

For these walls still stand tall
through countless stormy nights, scorching days and freezing evenings.
But I don't know how much longer I can last.

Because my very foundations were made with your smile in mind,
and they are sinking into the mire now that we are forced to stand alone.

But what need to you have for such antiquated architecture?
I have been replaced. Your new home is far prettier.
More efficient.

Even still, I hang on by crossbeams and rotting wooden studs
and hope that you will find your way back
to the home I forged for you here in my arms.

I rot and moulder in solitude
the memories that echo in my hallowed halls the only comforts that keep me from collapse.

Far too proud to admit, though I'm sure
you see the bitterness of your absence
eating away at me like termites.

The lord only knows how I'd like to feel your feet
upon my wooden floors again,
but who am I to even dare to ask?

For now I am just a broken house
no longer a home
vacant
and alone
patiently waiting to be made whole again.
This is a collaborative poem written by myself and Berry(http://hellopoetry.com/-berry/).
she was lighter
and he was cigarette

she needed him to feel worthwhile
and he needed her to feel the flames

but just like every lighter
her light ran out

and just like every cigarette
his fire died

and just like that
they forgot who they are
i tried my best and this is one of my very first poems xoxo
