With All of the Heart
Hadrian Veska Apr 2016
They didn't have much
But they were happy
Loving each other unconditionally
And with all of their heart

Together they laughed
Together they cried
And on the cold winter nights
They would hold each other close

But there came a time
When he had to leave her
For a new job
In a far off place

He told her that
They didn't gave enough money
For both of them to move
As he concealed the true reason

The job he was going to do
Was less than ideal
And he feared that if she knew
She would not allow it

She said goodbye to him
With tears in her eyes
As he left her sight
Beyond the horizon

He would be gone
For over a year
And considering the job
He may not return at all

He arrived at the factory at night
The conditions were terrible
But that was the reason
The pay was so high

Due to the chemicals being used
Many that worked there
Became sick and died
Within a matter of years

He put this thought aside
Working day and night
As much as his body would allow
Thinking only of her

After only a few weeks
He could feel the effects
Of working at the plant
As it was now hard to breathe

Working on
Month after month he continued
To secure his future
Aswell as her's

It came down to the last week
In a crowded bar
Many of the factories employees
Gathered to celebrate

He normally did not drink
But he thought this was cause
For him to celebrate
So he began drinking heavily

He laughed and talked
With one of his coworkers
And before he knew it
She was kissing him

To drunk to stop
They went back to his apartment
Where they both had a night
They would never remember

In the morning he woke up
She was gone
But judging by the surroundings
He put it together

He had cheated
Cheated on the woman
That he was doing
All of this for

The entire plane ride back
He hung his head in shame
He would have to tell her
He didn't have it in him not to

When he finally arrived
She greeted him at the door
With a big smile
And wide open arms

He forced a shallow smile
Embracing her felt like
The arms of guilt
Coiling around him

He told her he had something
That he needed to tell her
So they both sat down
As she awaited his words

He fidgeted them began to speak
He told her everything
About his work
And about that night

A few solitary tears
Rolled down his face
He was prepared to leave
As he waited for her response

She looked him up and down
Then smiled and grabbed him
Bringing him in close
And whispered in his ear

"Don't cry my love.
Because anything we do
We have to do together.
Do not feel guilty,

It's ok.
Because I love you.
Unconditionally,
And with all of my heart."

You Are {not} Alone
Hadrian Veska May 2016
The thunder clapped in the heavens
Followed by a burst of lightening
That lit the night sky ablaze

I had failed in my quest
The world I meant to save
Turned to ashes before my eyes

The rain poured down
On the mounds of dead bodies
That I was too weak to save

"You are alone" he scoffed
As he stood before me
His voice the very thunder itself

Though he wasn't wrong
I was alone now
And had always been

I was no longer fighting for salvation
My sole purpose now was revenge
For those innocence that lay slaughtered

I was badly wounded
But I raised my sword once more
As blood flowed down the blade

Then I charged
With all the strength I could muster
One last time

And as I ran I thought I heard
Voices far off in the distance
Calling out to me saying,

"You are not alone"

Ancient rocks and ice
Swirl around a lonely giant
As a distant young sun
Reflects its brilliance on their surfaces

They will continue in their motion
Long after we pass by
It saddens me
That I will never see them again

Stellar Rebirth
Hadrian Veska Aug 2017
Only now have things begun to grow again

I've heard many stories
Tales and past legends
Of an endless war
That spanned the cosmos

Remnants of this conflict are still evident
All around our village
Scrapped metal and bones
Half buried in the dirt

Great vessels float
Broken in the skies
An ever present reminder
Of distant past mistakes

I often ponder for what
So many fought and died
And I wonder if in the end

They even knew themselves

A strange unknown song

Its low undertone
Reverberates through the forest below

Why the mountain sings is unknown
Though many say

The song is simply the dying meoldy
Of a thing buried long ago

The Lost Traveler Pt I
Hadrian Veska Jun 2016
I opened the diary

And flipped to the final page
It was partially torn
And its contents written
In a hasty manner

I began to read the manuscript
By dull candlelight
Did I attempt to follow
The words of the lost traveler

"...The vicar had warned me
Not to venture to the old ruins
That sat forested in full vision
Of that dull brown monastary

But he should have known
With my great curiosity
That telling me not to do something
All but ensures that I would

All the monks and scholars
Seemee uneasy about that place
Said to have been built
Before the first settlers arrived

Every bit of information
That I got them to reveal
Only fanned the flames
Of my imagination further

By sunset I had already decided
I would leave the monastary
In the dead of the night
And make my way to that place

That ever men of God fear and avoid..."

What I don't yet know
And I know that I
Have a ways to go
On many paths
Both high and low

Yet I am eager to depart

Our destination
Remains unknown
But in my heart
This feelings grown
So long as I'm yours
And you're my own

I know we'll make it there

The Witch of Dolls
Hadrian Veska Apr 2016
I stumbled into the old Gothic style cathedral
I was desperate, they told me she had been taken here
I'd heard many stories about this place
And the one who resided here

The pale moonlight shined through the stained glass windows
Where I expected to see an alter
I saw only a shrouded figure
Sitting on upon a strange throne

As I drew closer I observed the figure and the throne
In greater detail and upon doing this
I grew sick at the sight before me
The throne was made of people that seemed to be alive

"Do you like them?" came a voice that surrounded me
With these words the figure rose up
And removed the cloak they were wearing
Dropping it to the floor

To my surprise it was a tall beautiful woman
Nothing like what the rumors and legends had said
"These are my play things" she spoke with a wry smile
As she walked down a few of the stone steps

Behind her I saw the people move
They almost slithered about her
I saw that they were not normal humans at all
They seemed too perfect and almost unreal

Their joints were connected like those of a doll
I kept looking around to see if i could find my sister
And to my ultimate dismay
I eventually did

She looked just like all the others
i shouted out to her, but she did not respond
She just looked at me
With those unblinking glass eyes

"I doubt she remembers anything
After I removed her brain and all her organs."
The witch spoke as if about to laugh
"She is merely a stuffed puppet now."

I could not believe this
All my trials had led me here
And I was too late
The moonlight began to dim

The witch disappeared, yet I still heard her voice
"You know, you can join her if you like
It doesn't hurt one bit
And it would be over soon"

As she spoke I realized she was now behind me
She gently grabbed my shoulders and breathed down my neck
"Look at her, she's smiling, do you want to take her away from happiness?"
I did look and she was smiling, a hollow empty smile

I tried to reach out, but I was paralyzed
Whether this was the witches doing or simply out of fear I did not know
But soon I closed my eyes and drifted off
Into a deep and strange sleep

I heard a voice guiding me in my dream
I knew that I wanted my sister to be happy no matter what
She desired a peaceful life after all we had been through
There was just one thing I had to do to keep her safe

Just one thing I had to do...
It would make my sister happy...
And it would bring me peace too...
Just one thing...

In a daze I woke up from my dream
My eyes would not yet adjust and I smelled hot metal
As I came to I saw that it was not metal but blood
Giving off the metallic aroma

It was my own, pouring out from my neck and chest
Yet I did not feel any pain or discomfort
It was truly a strange feeling
As I watched my own organs being removed from my body

I looked up and saw the witch gracefully moving about
With a smile of her face and blood on her claws
The other dolls circled about as well and I saw my sister
With that same hollow smile stretched across her face

Serendipity

Today is different from yesterday
I’ve had this question in my head
For the whole day
I don’t  know if its mere coincidence
Or perhaps something more
But it feels like Serendipity

You are the flower
And I’m a passing butterfly
My heart flutters everytime you smile
Don’t be afraid to love me
Because from the first moment
My eyes met yours
I knew I already loved you

You are the light in my dark world
The tender fire when I am cold
You teach me the right way
When I’m on the wrong road
You are the angel who saved me

Temple to an Unknown God
Hadrian Veska Apr 2016
They say there is no God
Yet they bow to two gods
Not a city is without a shrine
Nor a home without their handiwork

Their gods are gifts not to be taken lightly
but they are not to be worshiped either
Their gods are appealing
Because you can change them

If you follow the laws of their gods
you would realize they stumble
Saying things contrary
To what they also call truth

They take pride in their facts
Yet often they crumble
And have to be rebuilt
From the ground back up

The worship of these gods will only grow
As they ever shift in the winds
Till the end of his days
May man bow down

The places there are that go forgotten
Through alleys at night down and to the left
Dim neon, wires, cracked pavement and smoke
Something always more obscure
Hidden further back and under
Than the most secret thing you know
The city turns in on itself at a point
Where places once known become strange and distant
As if despite their nearness
They've grown so very far
Ever churning and rearranging
As if with a mind of it's own

Stretching out that it might breathe

Far Over
Hadrian Veska Feb 2017
Far over the sea
With city sunken below
Do the waves fall away
Mythic islands to show

No men have voyaged there
Since the days of yore
When the moon was bright
And the sun shown more

For what was found there
Can not be explained
Nor would a return voyage
Have anything gained

On those islands
Where great salt mounds
That reached to the trees
And covered the grounds

But stranger still
Haunting to sight
Were the birds that nested
In the faint evening light

Great monstrous things
With deep purple eyes
And blacker than night
Their wings in the skies

Little is know
Of the strange avians or the crew
That sailed such islands
For only one man knew

Having survived the voyage
He lived in dread fear
Of those strange dark birds
As if they were near

And though everyday
He was coaxed to regale
He could never bring himself
To again tell the tale

Then one day he was gone
With grains of salt in his bed
Grand wings in the night
To carry the dead

The Boulder
Hadrian Veska Jul 2017
The boulder stood there
In the waning dusk
Towering before
The slopes of the mountain

Every evening I stopped
And watched the boulder
As the shadows grew
And the moon began to rise

It horrified me
Though I could not say why
Save for that it vaugely
Resembled a hunched giant

Not far from the rock
Was a smooth spot
I'm the side of the mountain
That look as though it was cut

I never dared go any closer
Walking past quickly
Something was not right
The night there seemed sinister

Carrying on with my life
I did not pass the boulder
For many days and nights
Occupied with my work

When I finally took that way again
Down past the mountain
The boulder was no where to be seen
And the smooth cut stone

Had turned a faint purple
Almost phosphorescent
Against the cool colors
Of that mountain night

Through great sylvan years
Green needles of pine
And wide outstretched leaves

Though on occasion to wail
Whipping through the boughs
Of these far distiant slopes
Even at harshest
The world here is mild
Unknown to war, famine or want
The creatures are gentle
The winters the same
The only men are wanderers
Passing through the mists
Though curious
I never dare to trail them
For to me they seem as spirits
Passing through these forests
For as of yet I have never seen

A calm dusk
Rolls over the hills
Bringing the world
Into a quiet night

A distant owl calls
From deep with the woods
Signaling the animals
To return to its borders

The trees whistle gently
Swaying back and forth
As a curtain of black
Descends over the sky

And then there is silence
Or at least a different form of sound
As the hum of small creatures
Fills the now still night

The world is at rest
And in its sleep it dreams
Of things that were
And things that will be

The dawn will come
Though far off it be
For now the world sleeps
Below the shimmering stars

The Titled City
Hadrian Veska Apr 2016
In a far off land
Unknown to most
Lies a tilted City
On a dull grey coast

High on the rocks
Before the sea foam
Sat the ancient town
That none called home

No one inhabited
Its stone brick walls
Its little hovels
or dinning halls

I decided to explore
In the settlements wake
But as the night drew near
The ground began to quake

I slowly approached
Its time worn gate
And opened the city
As the hour drew late

Far off down the street
I noticed a light
That gently pierced the dark
Of this distant lands night

Making my way
Through the cobbled streets
I found an old sign
Written cursive and neat

As I read through its words
All I could understand
Was the town's name of Sur
The only in the land

Through the streets I walked
Past the houses and stores
Whose doors were all locked
And whose lights shone no more

But as I came to the square
Where the three roads meet
I was met by a strange
Yet pleasant heat

For a fire roared
In the center pit
But no one was there
By whom it was lit

As I stood in the square
I heard many a sound
Uttered from above
Beneath and around

It sounded as though
The town was alive
As it softly hummed
Rose and dived

I sat in this place
Til' the end of my years
Yet when I was gone
Still my voice you could hear

For a moment I was still
Taking in the vast unknown

Fade in and out of existence

As I observed these things
I came upon a curious thought
That perhaps the universe
Was not inherently cruel

Things were born and died
Then were born again
Thus was the cycle
And ever would it be

When I awoke I was at peace
I now finally understood
What that feeling was
That had followed me all my life

That strange shiver
That comes upon us all
As if being watched
By an unknown observer

This was no ill omen
Just the simple presence
Of one of those far off souls
Exploring the universe as I had

Watching the eons pass by
From the ancient place

I stood there in that strange room
Which occupied neither time or space
In the center sat a massive machine
Operated by an imposing figure

I could not make out the entity
For it wore as its helmet and mask
The skull of some long extinct species
That was beyond my imagination

At first it took no notice of me
But when it reached a lull in its work
The being turned its head towards me
As it did the entire room vibrated

Standing up it dwarfed me in size
Several heads above me
The being's limb were long and lanky
And its demeanor frightening

But my journey had led me here
I couldn't turn away empty
So I stood before the extra physical being
And awaited its judgement

After a time it hissed and vibrated at me
Yet in this realm I understood it
It spoke to me in simple terms
Saying that all I knew had been destroyed

What I had known as the universe
No longer existed
I was currently in a place outside it
A place beyond the gates of night

My goal was simple
To save all of creation
Though it had already perished
At the hands of those vacuous beings

Creatures that hailed from a place
Immemorial and inconsistent
Where darkness reigns
And all light is extinguished

The entity before me
Was my only chance at salvation
The room vibrated once more as he spoke
And then a swirling portal opened

The silent being bid me pass through it
He told me I would find someone there
Who could assist in my grand quest
Though even I knew where the portal led

It led to an ever deepening void
An ancient prison
Meant to house gods
Or things far worse

That things are about
To get much worse
You would not believe me

The fact that we are even made
To live in the first place is cruel
Everyone alive knows that
To a sickening degree

I have something
I want to show you some day
It alone remains
Always within my heart

As I lose track
I see your eyes
Fixed on that far horizon
Beyond the clouds

We pick up our pace
If only for a while
So that yesterday
Is not just a regret

For now I will follow
I want to believe
That we can reach
That distant paradise in your eyes

Mankind's greatest strength, is mortality.
If you don't believe me, ask the gods.

That is,
if any yet remain.

Last Dream
Hadrian Veska Jul 2016
I dreamed once more
And dreamed my last
Before the end
Before the past

Where in my mind
I glimpsed strange sights
Of far off shores
And soft warm lights

I knew not why
Yet I felt at home
As I watched the waters
Swirl and foam

A voice called out
From beyond the sea
And I knew in an instant
That it was for me

I tried to reach out
Grasp the words on the air
But they soon disappeared
To a long lost prayer

So I sat in the sand
As the sun sank low
And the world about
Ebbed and flowed

With the day turned to night
I opened my eyes
And awoke in my bed
To fire in the skies

Great Guardian Moon
Hadrian Veska Nov 2016
The last drops of moonlight
Fall into the sea
A silvery gold
Faint yet eternal

Sunken below deep waters
Never to rise again
Entombed in distant memory
And shrouded by indifferent waves

The wandering stars
Mourn her passing
That sweet watcher of night
Who guided us till the end

O Great Guardian Moon

Lunar Path
Hadrian Veska Apr 2016
Over colorless skies
Birds fly through the ground
As the rivers dry
And no one can be found

I walk the path
Under the black sun
As the planets bleed
And their colors run

I can feel watching eyes
Leaving their mark
As they bid me travel
Beyond the dark

So I continue on my road
That's clear without light
As I march ever on
Far into the Night
