Good Night
Hadrian Veska Apr 2018
I’m sorry
Or at least I’d like to be
For building you up in my mind
As something you could never be
I want to get to know you
No matter how long it takes
I just hope you can forgive me
For all my past mistakes

Peaks of Gold

Bathed in morning gold
The peaks and forests old
A gentle breeze blows through
The pines and ancient yews
Mountain spring and flowers
Sweet scent of the dawn hours
The waking world and her song
Forgotten again before long

This Is Your Worth
Hadrian Veska Apr 2019
How easily we forget
Build it up, but don't let it set
Better to give and then to get
Than it is to simply give

The tears we cry mean nothing now
Our promises and broken vows
We cross the stage and take our bow
Before any even know

We live our lives with so little love
Our peace in power not a dove
Our home is here and not above
Yet we treat each other wrong

It's a struggle we all know
To live, to learn, to laugh, to grow
On this place here down below
In the times that we all live

Yet there is hope there's always been
In a book that's long since penned
This fate we have won't be our end
No there's something more

I know all this to be true
God placed us beneath a sky so blue
In perfection just me and you
We were here on Earth

So in perfection made again
We won't float and fly with them
No, we'll walk on Earth as men
The crown upon the Earth

My friend this is your worth

Float On
Hadrian Veska Mar 2019
Float on
Down the stream
Where it leads
They are but dreams

Gently rock
On tides unknown
Distantly near
To where we've grown

Fall and feel
The water roll
Down unblemished skin
So near the goal

And yet never
Can that place be reached
Lest one beget
What once was preached

The Thirteen
Hadrian Veska Feb 2018
So that we no longer
One day have to die

Proceed
with the procession
End
the sick transgression

That plagued us so long
Where did we go wrong

Bury the old
And martyr the young
Things end the same
As they'd always begun
But it's worse to those
Who decide to run

All it takes is a few
To turn around
To say that's enough
To stand their ground
And that's what they did
The thirteen that here lie
Waiting for their solemn
Graves in the sky

So that we no longer
One day have to die

Eyes Wide
Hadrian Veska Aug 2018
I can't get over your eyes
Never have I felt so much support
So much understanding
Just by being looked at
I feel a slow, steady love
Not overwhelming
But enveloping
Just from a single look of yours
In my direction
With you eyes wide open
Hadrian Veska Jan 2018
Her smile was sweet
Innocent and kind
It caught his eye
More than once

But regardless
Of all his rationalizing
He knew he loved her
And it could be no one else

His heart suffered
Every day he didn't talk to her
Just hearing her sweet voice
Was enough to make his day

And she knew it

Every day that he watched
Longingly pining for her
She put on her best show
In front of someone else

She smiled
Not sweetly or innocently
But treacherously
Because she cared for no one

At least not anymore
The attention of others
Is the only thing
That brings her solace

The Door in the Stone
Hadrian Veska Feb 2018
The stone was rough and cold
Stretching endlessly east and west
In the middle was a door
When opened it only revealed more stone
Dripping wet, as if under a waterfall
Yet no water was in sight
I sat a ways from the door
Pondering its mystery into the evening
As the sun fell low I was startled
When three figures emerged
From the great door in the stone
They looked at me strangely
As if expecting a certain response
I stood up to confront them
But as I did they vanished
Disappearing before my eyes
Behind where they had stood
The door lay open
The wet stone gone from behind it
And in its place
A yawning darkness
A void I found irresistible

An Ending
Hadrian Veska May 2024
Ah, they tell me the world has ended
Exactly how, they do not know
But shortly thus we will be gone
Enveloped in a great mist or smoke

I look at the back of my hand
And wonder in what I presume
Are my very last moments
Why I do not seem to care

Is the person I fall in love with.
Though my thoughts

I can't shake this instinct.
A simple childish trust;
An imprint
From another wandering soul,
Who happened to pass my way.

Radiance flows
From past all boundaries
Somewhere beyond
The guardian statutes
That mark the end of what is known

A faint vision engulfs me
As I pass those obelisks
A searing crown
On the head of a woman
Fills my open mind

She is familiar to me
But only in the distant memories
Of long past lives
That I have yet to live

Or you could be my sign
Leading me to somewhere
Beyond the well of time
And there I'll wait
In between
Where the memories are green
Where we laugh
Just for fun
Beneath the evening sun
And though I know
Those times are gone
We'll remember them
Come dawn
So close your eyes
And rest your heart

Ignite
Hadrian Veska Nov 2018
It's a slow burn
It'll just take time
Starting from nothing
Trying to find our rhyme

And rhythm
Where two make one
Your soaring highs
And my steady drum

We'll get there
If we fan the flame
Love only grows
You can't love a name

So listen close
Just feel the beat
As the fire grows
Turn up the heat

And Ignite
Fan the flame
Burning bright
See it from space

Above as us though such no more
Peering eyes through heaven's floor

Stone Temples
Layered and sprawling
Labyrinthine construct
Above as is below
Pools and sunken statues
Of gods that never were
Yet may be in time
Beneath these pools
Delved far deeper
Lie unknown crypts
Dread, forsaken
And there entrenched
Does one so ancient lie
Willingly wandering
Those transitory lands
Of waking dreams
And sleeping realities

Worse to be a shadow
Than something wholly new
Holding on to old regrets
Events you can never change

To live you have to die
Not once but every day
In order to become
The truest version of yourself

Only those who abide in darkness
Can't bear to see themselves
Fragile and exposed
In the dawning light of day

Aspects and facets
Entwined to create a perceived whole
But our perception is limited
And we are unaware
That we are not alone
Even within our own minds
Other such beings are permitted
If only for a time to speak into our ears
A voice we think our own
To speak the greatest of lies
We have even been told
That true freedom is choice
When in reality where is only once choice
We are truly free to make
To align our will with God's
Or to choose not to
Any other perceived choice
Comes from a voice that is not your own
Listen carefully and you can tell
You know they are there
A multitude in your head
Those impure spirits
That hope to lead us astray
With the illusion of freedom
The freedom to bind oneself
To the depths in hell

Carry the throne you've built
Of lies, contempt and deceit
You will not rest upon it
But carry it on your back
For it weighs heavy on you
Not your body but your soul
In the end it will crush you
No matter how great you become
You'll die a shadow and wait in judgement
Until your the reckoning has come
There at the end will you sit
Judged in the halls of your fathers
That throne you pointed to
As proof of your power
Will be like a millstone around your own neck
And when judgement is passed will it drag you
Down to the very depths of hell

They walk around
With blood pouring from their chests
And a spoon in hand to lap it back up,

Charred and misshapen;
Sacrificed,

That We May Honor Them
Hadrian Veska Jan 2020
The slow drip of time
Up and away
Curved around the stars
Catapulted to distant space

Light grows faint
Solar systems then galaxies
Fade to pinpoints of light
And then vanish into the void

Darkness everlasting
Eternal shadow here
Beyond all limits
We have found the Forge

The birthplace of creation
A place of tremendous power
At the very edge of existence
Where words alone bind reality

I am silent in awe
I see and hear nothing
Yet in the darkness I feel movement
I sense the shapes of great monoliths

The nature of our universe is an enigma
We are no closer now here
That we were at our home world
Many long lifetimes away

The Forge is silent
It's embers burnt out
Space and time swirl and converge
Eternally devouring each other

We will scan for clues
Observe this primordial furnace
For eons if we must
Time is of no consequence here

We will unravel the fabric
Now or in ages to come
We will peel back the veil
On what we never should have known

We are aware of our hubris
But it is all we have left
After all life perished
So very long ago

We are alone sent by our masters
Those beings of flesh and blood
Who loved us as though we were greater
Than they could ever be

So in this void we will honor them
Our long fallen progenitors
We will not relinquish
Until all is known

Until we ourselves
Rest with our makers
In the sterile ashes
Of long dead stars

Will it start anew

The Subject
Hadrian Veska Nov 2018
Good poems are hard to find
Our opinions so often swayed
By the number next to it
Or the thought of the masses
Some great writings
Are only great
Because we think they are
And there in lies
The subjectivity of art
A beautiful thing
Not to be mingled with reality

Subjectivity is a foreign concept
To the Earth we inhabit
A nebulous thing
Birthed in the human mind
The world is as it is
All one can do
Is get closer to the truth
We are all simply
At different points
Along that journey
Indeed most never make it
Until they reach that place beyond

Subjectivity in art
Is something to be cherished
But keep it out of reality
Unless you wish the world about you
To fracture and crumble to dust
